  1. It's a crude clicking + dodge mechanic with an unnecessarily complicated weapon/stance/dance system. I've heard the second game is better in that regard, but I'd like to go through the first one first.
  2. Started playing the first Witcher finally. I cannot recall the last time I've played a game with such an awful combat system. Hopefully the rest of it can keep me entertained.
  3. I found out most of the stuff about Emily and other characters by using the Heart. Speaking of which:
  4. I'm confused. Which one do you mean?
  5. Your opinion is objectively wrong. You can absolutely measure the objective quality of a film, but like Brainhurt said, there's so much material on it, digesting it in a single forum post would take more time than it's worth. And I'm not even talking about reviews, awards and other such nonsense.
  6. Indie Royale Bundle and Mark of the Ninja.
  7. Since people think I hate everything I criticize (I never said I hated the stealth, just that it was quite simple, but oh well), here is SOME PRAISE:
  8. I don't see why it's unfair to compare it to MGS? Yea, Dishonored tried to please people who wanted both stealth and action, but that doesn't change the fact that it's very simplistic in both. It's still a pleasurable experience, I'm just saying I see why people would be disappointed in the stealth aspect of it. It hasn't budged much from what we've had in previous, similar games.
  9. Some more thoughts on Dishonored, now that I've let it sink in a bit. I think the overall experience felt quite compact, not as far as length goes, but just overall. Maybe "distilled" is a better word? I might be in the same boat as Maritan when it comes to the actual stealth mechanics. They do lean towards arcadey. You know how Metal Gear Solid surprised you when enemies saw footprints and you didn't expect a game ever taking that into account? Dishonored is one of the reasons that would surprise us even today. The way you sneak, hide and assassinate are all things that come intuitive due to you guessing what the limits of a game engine are (field of view, whether you are crouching or not, whether you are in shadows or not, whether bodies are found or not). It does some non-standard things like when you hear enemies say "Wasn't someone supposed to be doing rounds here?" but that's about that. I know it might sound snobbish to say "The problem with the stealth is that it feels like a game mechanic", but yea, I'm slightly underwhelmed by it. On the other hand, there are some good things to the "distilled" aspect of the game. There isn't an overabundance of weapons, abilities or weapon types, so I don't feel like anything should have been added. I didn't even use everything from what was already in the game. Also, those clam/plant/whatever things should have been removed. Pointless. Also, to comment on the morality again, I'm still sad that it's binary with its Chaos levels. You either kill a bunch of dudes, or you don't. I think it would have been better if they took into account both the lethal and stealth aspect of the game and made endings based on those combinations. Ie, one for low visibility, few kills (current low chaos ending); one for high visibility, many kills (current high chaos); low visibility, many kills; and one for high visibility, few kills (Batman ending).
  10. Just finished the game. After beating it, I'm only disappointed in the morality system boiling down to a kill counter.
  11. I'll have to wait for it to be released for Europe
  12. + Backed up Project Eternity on Kickstarter
  13. Starting October, I'll be PR Assistant in a Serbian gaming company. Really hyped.

  14. I have a European PSN code for BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend on the Vita. I'd gladly trade it for the retail version of BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend for the PS3 if anyone is up for it?
  15. Finished Black Mesa yesterday. Good stuff.
  16. My article on gaming death got featured in RPS's Sunday Papers: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/09/16/the-sunday-papers-234/

You mean the 'locked in a place, fight all the criminals' plot device? It's not exactly original in any case, and it's a low(er) budget way of making your film.

And that's beside the point Yuki was making anyway...

Have you guys ever seen a film called Die Hard?

  17. Oh, yea, I officially own my first console since I got a Sega Master System II in 1991. Bought a second-hand (excellent condition) Nintendo DSL. 50 euro.

Yeah, they're a special case, but still consoles IMO. (Though technically it should be a floor-mounted cabinet of sorts - whatever...)

Also wow. I do seemingly everything on a computer, but consoles are my lifeline to most of my games. I play them AT my computer, but not ON it (same screen)

  18. I'm a sucker for Magical Drop and this reminds me a lot of it. I don't mind playing it on a desktop.
  19. Bought this on Steam. Can't wait to get a chance to play it. (Also has online MP for anyone who likes puzzle games in MP)
  20. Ok, the blog I'm working on is coming along nicely. I'll probably launch it on Wednesday. God knows I need the distraction.

  21. I wrote a short article on the aesthetics of death: http://defaultprime.com/2012/09/11/persnickety-perspective-a-beautiful-death/ Pondering turning this into a blog of its own (Death in Games).

  22. Just saw The Fountain. Some pretty good stuff.
  23. Supposedly it's a game about enjoying Atari-looking scenery. I'll give more details after I've played it tonight.
