  1. That's 1.3billion cattle amongst 7billion people. In 30years time there will be 9billion people. And Africa is likely to have become substantially more industrial by then and thus likely to have higher demand for food too.
  2. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/articles/The-Next-Doctor-will-be-revealed-on-Sunday-04-August So tomorrow the new doctor will be shown off live. They're making quite a big deal out of it. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23537948 Capaldi has been in Torchwood before now though, in a major role, which'd be a bit weird for having him as The Doctor (they managed to cover up Martha and Amy easy enough due to smaller roles) Which Children of Earth was a pretty damn good series, only 5 episodes long (it ran one a night over a week) and pretty much made up for all of Torchwoods past issues. Like the orgasm alien.
  3. http://news.sciencemag.org/2013/08/here-it-comes-%E2%80%A6-375000-lab-grown-beef-burger So on Monday the first artificially grown burger is to be shown off. It'll be something that's gonna be silly expensive for an age, but I'd reckon in about 30 years or so it'll be the common form of meat, with actual cow meat being the pricey thing (well, it'll be the pricey thing either way, there's a hard limit on how much livestock we can keep around and maintain)

hahahaha I lost it at the "my 100 different companions each with detailed backstories and personalities"

  4. Have you seen Jekyll? I strongly recommend it for anyone into Sherlock. It's essentially the spiritual predecessor of sherlock. Same creators, same mini-series format, same idea and method of taking victorian era story and plopping it into modern day setting.
  5. What? Don't you think Microsoft would know what they're doing when it comes to console GPUs and reliability?
  6. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-23518587 In event of World War III. Break Glass. Read Speech.

  10. Yeah I'd say it's kinda naf on the looks dept from just being so basic. Apart from the noted lowness it's kinda nice to use as a mouse though. Swiping to go back n forward has it's charm. But yeah, it'd be a horrible mouse to use for long periods and the right click is sort of there but not.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9hQWqtxXPU http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/ One of the big Kickstarter games. The Fallout predecessor. Anywho an article from RPS http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/08/01/a-day-with-wasteland-2/ I think the UI customisation looks neat. The description stuff in the text box is also nice in it promotes doing certain stuff, but could also control the flow of the game a bit too much (obviously up to you to ignore it.

    Windows 8

http://www.zdnet.com/windows-8-adoption-rate-drops-back-to-a-plod-7000018847/ Adoption is slowing. Though expected (hoped) to increase come release of 8.1. http://allthingsd.com/20130730/asus-pulling-back-on-windows-rt-chairman-says/ And Dell is now the only manufacturer making Windows 8 RT devices. Which kinda puts a whole spanner in the whole "let's make an OS with a large focus on tablets" when it seems manufacturers are going to be sticking with Android for their ARM tablet needs (or sticking Android on Windows 8 laptops as Asus are doing)
  13. Birth to Death through cinema.
  14. So it's yet to come out in Japan.
  15. XIII Found the plot a bit hard to follow at some points (I assume I didn't actually kill the president but it didn't seem too clear on that). In fact a lot of elements over who was a good guy and who was a bad guy wasn't too clear either (Mongoose obviously bad, but folks like Jones seemed ambiguous sometimes). But it was neat enough I might hunt down the original comic. It's kind of one of my guilty pleasure type games too.
  16. Come for the fattest pigeon, stay for the Pacific Rim comics. http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/archives/comic/maybe-he-just-wasnt-paying-attention http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/archives/comic/if-you-havent-seen-pacific-rim-yet-what-are-you-doing-go-now-drop-everything
  17. As kind of already known but here in full visual for anyone that was unsure, GTAV will be using Max Paynes shooting mechanics.
  18. You consider a 2K long friends list short? Or am I misunderstanding you? 2K is enough to populate a small town of people. Most people can't even psychologically know that many people. Keep in mind the current limit for both is 100 (and that's after original XBL got shut down with implied promise of an expansion)
  19. Thanks CowboyPoet for putting a story about the video game "Red Dead Redemption" in it's own thread instead of just randomly dumping it in a Grand Theft Auto thread or something stupid like that and showing your high literacy and cognitive skills at telling western games and gangster games apart. Also isn't Redemption a sequel itself? Kind of implied they'd do another title again, though likely in it's own story arc/locale much like Revolver n Redemption weren't direct sequels of each other.
  20. Yeah it seems like generic cyberpunk hubworld to me, though I've never lived in Seattle. If it didn't have "Seattle Docks" and such as areas I wouldn't really know it from anywhere else.
  21. http://www.humblebundle.com/ Deep Silver bundle, which means due to resent rejiggering of IPs is the Saint's Row Bundle, with a couple games added and a top tier you want to avoid.
  22. I found my card to be more stable than any dongle I've used. I'd say the main thing is how much you pay for one, but a cheap card with antenna and such will beat out a cheap dongle. Less driver hassle too.
  23. You guys know you're in the wrong thread right?
