  1. http://shield.nvidia.com/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20931265 http://www.eurogamer...d-spec-analysis The main news for me is Tegra 4 (Wayne) now being shown off and supposedly UE4 supporting Android*. And this handheld will certainly be boasting some impressive specs, but the form factor is a fair bit fugly. But I imagine potentially quite comfortable since it's a traditional style controller instead of the kind of design seen on the Vita and 3DS with a flatter profile. It also means another high profile device rocking controller support and pushing gaming for Android titles, so even if you're not too fussed over Nvidias particular implementation it'll have a knock-on effect with android gaming in general. *not too much of a surprise I guess as lacking Android support would accidentally give Unity an edge over their UDK.
  2. I have a nice knife. I think while I was at my mums someone confused it with a flathead screwdriver though cos the end is bent.
  3. Yeah given the style and gameplay I think they really dropped the ball in not supporting lower spec devices. Maybe as cash comes in they might port. At least to tablets I'd think.
  4. It's a PC benchmark http://allbenchmark.com/en/ From the guys that made the new Witcher 2 intro http://www.platige.com/frontend/special_projects
  5. Yeah I'm really confused on that. Some folks are countering with "when has a new console had even 40 games at launch " which makes me wonder what consoles they're buying because all of the current consoles have launched with the ability to play the back catalogue. Also a thought had sprang to mind this morning; if it's Linux based and gains momentum, what's to stop other companies making their own? For example Amazon, who've been rather successful in taking Android and making it their own thing, are in the digital games biz, and various other digital media arms too (they also run LoveFilm over here, which is how I get most my PS3 games of late). Steam's big, but it's minute when compared to Amazon. The Kindle Fire shows they're pretty adept at taking someone else's groundwork of a software platform and making it their own. Their recent sales have shown they're pretty competitive in wanting to get a slice of the digital games sector too. And unlike Valve they've got the hardware connections too through their years of making Kindle (as well as the aforementioned media services too that sweeten the deal over Valves offering). Of course nothing stopping you having Steams services installed too, same as you can root a Kindle and stick on Play, but most folks would likely stick with whichever service Amazon stick on their distro. About only major issues is Steamworks games, but I'm sure Amazon could provide some reason to swap out for their API while doing the legwork of Linux porting.
  6. Did Star Wars teach you nothing?
  7. Yeah I didn't end up in the base on my first play through, this play through I ended up capturing a..Outsider(? the shard things) before anything else so ended up with that kinda early. I may try the "don't do anything it says to" technique.
  8. I didn't move them, that's why they died. The thin men started firing, I waited for the animation to end, one of my guys died then I noticed the map was blue, it was my turn, so I high-tailed my guys well out the way.
  9. So had a second playthrough and came across something odd and hugely annoying. Anyone had Thin Men just keep firing during your turn? They just stood there and fired a constant stream of plasma fire at my guys, which lead to two deaths before I realised what was happening. I'm still trying to work out how the money stuff works too and not even bothering with the whole panic stuff it's way over my head how that one is worked out. The elevation thing too, not sure what the games rules on that are as I've had a couple dudes killed while being higher (ad in cover) that the enemy, but I'm pretty sure the tutorial mode* tells you that if you're higher you fire on the enemies easier, not they fire on you easier. *wow they really just throw shit at you when you're not in the tutorial don't they?
  10. So I played this through last night. I hit a wall where basically once your veteran squad dudes start dying you care less and less. It's also doesn't help I was short on cash so it ended up with me going several months (surprised at how long that took) of me just ignoring the warnings until it decided to tell me I'd lost for whatever reason. (Yeah I'm not actually sure what the loss conditions are, since it's not a loss of cash, countries, squad members. So I assume a pre-set date by which you're meant to win?) It's pretty neat though, get a very strong Frozen Synapse vibe from it, just in 3D. It somewhat annoys me you're clearly meant ot have researched certain tech by certain stages, if you don't have the proper research by the time pre-made mission #whatever crops up, then you're totally off-kilter and fucked (I didn't capture a grey in the mission immediately following the first time the containment quest crops up, thus putting me about a month behind in research).
  11. A bunch of fan art for what a potential chinese AC could be like. Shame on the resolution, there would be plenty of wallpaper material in there. And the dudes DA page http://chaoyuanxu.deviantart.com/
  12. Dota 2 in about half an hour? (10PM GMT) Just drop by and hit any of us up if you see us playing, no worries if you join then or in hours time.

  13. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/seth-abramson/dislike-peter-jacksons-em_b_2342591.html Ton of spoilers in this, but basically it's a Tolkien nerd giving a bunch of smackdown to various unfavourable reviews (ones that attack the story, not the 48fps stuff).

    Dota 2

So who wants to play some Dota 2 this weekend? My suggestion would pretty much be as and when you've got a bit of free time and wish to fill it with Dota 2-ness just hop into PXOD steam chat and go "who wants to play Dota 2?" and we'll likely get a game going and snowball from there. Want to see how it goes without setting up a specific time (As some folks feel if they can't be there immediately they'll not come at all when in the end it tends to be more natural build-up than that). Also if you wish to play and don't have the game yet just pipe up and one of us can likely furnish you with a copy as there's about 20 or so floating about between us.
  15. I've a copy of Home to give away. Also one copy of Dota 2 as well (as do FLD and Saturnine Tenshi, might want to hit them up first). edit: I have one copy of Dota 2.
  16. So anyone up for some DOTA 2 over the weekend then?

I personally won't play but I just got 3 new invites for some reason, so if anyone hasn't got it but wants to play, let me know and I'll send one your way.

That'd be what sparked my suggestion. Me, you, and Saturnine combined account for about 15 new folks to play. That's 3 teams. And I'm sure there's more than just us with invites.

Yes, lets us all see how much of an antithesis of an Asian gamer I am.

  17. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-20905415 Could be a good idea. Certainly better than the current "Work Fair" scheme. And I might be a bit out of whack on costs n such, but £1billion seems cheap. Though I'd say a big problem is it still subsidises the creation of jobs for companies, thus discouraging them from actively hiring when the gov't will plonk someone on their plate for free.
  18. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-20898940 UK guy has had a hand transplant. It has been done before (though the US dude stopped taking his meds and surprise surprise ended up with no hand again). I'm not sure the operation is worth it. A lifetime of hand-related puns, and constantly being aware your hand has scratched someone else's butt, has wanked someone else's cock, picked someone else's nose. It's the very epitome of "you don't even know where it's been".
  19. Could people fill this out please, and then if it works I'll do it for PS3 and 360 too. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFhoQi1RYzBLaTJUZzlHQm5YTEFndXc6MA#gid=0
  20. Right, since you've the Fire HD, what's the app store like? Here it is on my Note, so the non-Kindle version of the App Store: And it's shit. Given there's the Kindle App too and Amazon MP3, which aren't too bad, the Amazon ecosytem works outside of their tablet, but the app store compared to Play (and Play could see some improvements) just makes me curious how folks make use of the Fire if this is all they have for getting apps. It's a terrible advertisement for Amazons tablet. If this is all I had for getting apps I'd be fucked.
  21. Yeah, certain boardgames end up super expensive here. Cards Against Humanity sells here for £35 ($60), but $25 in the US. VAT only accounts for so much.
  22. T'was via r/games on reddit. I'd queried the OP and he mentioned he ended up sorting of jumping from one post to another ended up on that article n seemed to be a lot of info he'd not seen so shared it. Seems that despite being an article from June it was an article that got buried back the in the day.
  23. I get that it's the point, I just don't feel comfortable with a £50 boardgame that's severely limited in use. I'm someone who takes good care of things, a game that asks you to write on your board game, tear up the playing pieces and so on just really rubs me the wrong way.
  24. I got a late Xmas present from my housemate (since we've both been off to respective parents/missed each other due to respective pre-xmas work shifts)
