  1. Actually I got it off Slasdot. I also submitted it to Reddit I do agree it's a case of the content, not really the length. If it's good content you'll gobble it up forever. But if it's bad, and just really badly and artificially stretched out, then it will feel too long. It's like Star Wars is a butt numbing 16hrs long or something, but you'd happily sit through it for a day. Same with LotRs. Assassins Creed, (2/B) has quite a few filler tasks, but they're enjoyable to do. Oblivion n Fallout are like 80% side-quests, and they're fine to do too. But then you have things like Prototype where the sidequests are like "kill as many people in 1 minute". And they get boring fast. I had to make up my own things, like getting from a-to-b by morphing from one person to another. Or hunting particular people down.
  2. Since most of us here have gone from regular readers to pretty much nothing at all except the few links here, I don't think it would change much if we completely absolved from reading/linking. In fact, though I'm feeling Deja Vu saying this, I'd say the net result of the posts put up here is an overall reduction in hits since more folks who read this thread then less folks who might read kotaku regularly.

  5. Quick question, since it seems to be an English vs English thing: How do Americans make tea? like the methodology of it. As you may know it's quite the English thing to do, but it's not hit off as much in America. And I've read (I'll link once someone explains how Americans do it) that part of that is cos you guys make tea "wrong" and therefore it's not quite the same stuff us English love. Oh this is Black tea btw. Early Grey, English Breakfast, Assam, Ceylon etc.
  6. It doesn't seem too complete, but this seems a pretty good mod.

  8. http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6324422/are-aaa-games-too-long So this thread is inspired by this article covering a panel at the Develop 2011 conference going on at the moment. btw if you're a fan of longer games then you have a nice list of studios to avoid I massively disagree with many of the comments made by the panel. I personally think games are getting way too short. Especially when AAA console titles are asking you to cough up £40 a pop (Just to cut off certain people: Yes I know if you fish about, pre-order, use sites like CAG n be a savvy shopper you can buy for less, or wait a year and get it for £10. They regular price is still £40). It doesn't help that there's plenty of games that are recently coming out for quite cheap that can have near unlimited game time. However I will agree that some games can drag on a bit too much and feel overly long. It's an issue of pacing. There are times I want a nice game to burst through for 4 hours or so and feel like I've "completed" something at the end of it and not just chipped off a small part of a larger game. Which is why their dig at LA Noire seems a bit off since from what I've heard of it's structure it does have a nice long over all narrative, but in bit size chunks that mean you've "finished" something after a 4-5 hr session. Heavy Rain plays out in similar chapters too. (Witcher also has Chapters, but they're 15-20hrs long each) I'll bring up Medal of Honor just as a random example. Sure I've felt it's one of the best FPS stories I've played in a while (at least in the "Modern War" setting), but my god it was short. I would be extremely disappointed if I'd paid £40 for that. Sure it has MP on the side, but I feel that MP doesn't really get a look in on game length. Especially when most "MP only" games I've seen tend to retail for less than most titles. Usually £10-£15 on PC, and topping out at £30 on console. So what are your opinions on both the panel, and the idea of game length in general, what's your comfort zone?
  9. I don't think Slag was "innovation is not allowed ever" but "innovation shouldn't and doesn't need to be in everything". What's wrong with a solid idea being repeated, such as a sound system in your car.
  10. I want to know why the vibration proof shield was ringing after she shot it.
  11. I believe they already semi-broke it within a few days by covering some Batman AA limited edition controllers. Still it was all a bit of a joke anyway when the self prescribed embargo ended a few weeks before Batman AA. All they missed out on was a few movie games if they'd properly stuck to it. Jim has some good points now and then, but damn does he need to just tone himself down a lot.
  12. I got Space Victory in Civ V. My first civ I've ran to end on it, so I guess it counts as beating it. Edinburgh (a city-state) wanted a road/trade route to my capital. Edinburgh was on the other side of the continent. In-between was Arabia. Several turns later there wasn't. Yep I wiped out a civilization cos Edinburgh wanted a road.

  14. I'd consider 90minutes to be the minimum for a movie. 60 minutes seems way to short a time. It's the 150+ minute ones I'd be on the watch out for.
  15. Saints Row II doesn't have enough cars lying around. Also even your saints driving around won't let you just nab their cars. There should be a way yo go "ring ring, car please" to make up for it. GTAIV would have cars everywehre, jsut lining streets, in car parks etc. Also the weapon changing/health eating system is messed up. If you're getting shot at from all sides, say a cemetery, you're fucked. Also that boat mission with the Brotherhood. I've still not completed it yet. I've got as far as wave 3. There's no check points.

  18. Well as I said I'd be up for it. Just as I said I'm a bit of a noob. Which is maybe worth adding to your poll; skill levels. I will say I wouldn't totally be planning to take days off for this. I can see it eventually falling apart, possibly quite quickly

Well I see you having fun, but I went a little off topic with the editing bit. My early forum days I remember people going into rants, but backpedaling to remove their rant with something else. Even with "edited" there was drama.

http://lifehacker.com/5822167/how-do-i-make-the-most-of-google%252B Well worth looking into. Need Chrome for most though. I've got Google Ultimate and Surplus running. I'd say Surplus is the biggy as it adds notifications and posting abilities right into the browser.

That has always been my problem with this show as well. It's preaching to the choir - everybody on the other side of the fence will just get angry.
