  1. hah. The end was bad. I'd heard they'd "aged" them but I didn't realise that given the massive CGI and efects everywhere else that their idea of "aging" them was to put them in old mans clothes and change their hairstyle a bit. It was sooo bad.
  2. Watched Harry Potter last night. It was both good and bad. And I feel the main issue with the film was that the final parts of the book sucked too. One scene in particular was a bit crappy in the book, and in the film was even more just not meshing right. Oh as well as "psst, Dean, the screens dirty". (if you've seen the film you know the scene) However it did the scene just before that with Snapes memories brilliantly. But that was a brilliant moment in the book too. I do feel it managed to get the light heartedness in there quite well too. Otherwise it would be an extremely dark and depressing film. I think that's what wore it down, just how dark n depressing it was. Also it did give us a new level of hover hand. Ralph Fiennes was pretty brilliant in this. You can tell by now he's really getting into voldermorts skin. Along with the hug, the laugh was pretty good too The film was good end-of-an-era stuff. But it was hugely anti-climatic and would have been quite a bit better film if it hadn't been based on a book. Also a certain Weasley battle which I was really hoping to see just wasn't as well fleshed out as I'd hoped. edit: Then we got back n watched Fifth Element, my thoughts of which are some where in this thread.
  3. Sucker Punch. Visually it was an awesome feast, and they'd quite possibly push it up above into the regions of "good movie" buutt the story was a bit of a mess, and it started to fall apart near the end. I think the main issue was there was no anchor for what was the reality. There was hints of the metaphors such as when she arrives with the guy with the lighter with a dragon pattern on it. But there was like three "layers" to the film, the mental institution, the brothel, and then the fantasies within that and you kinda lose where everything is and it gets annoying. If it was just the mental institution and the fantasies, or the brothel and the fantasies, it might work. But it all gets a bit incpetiony with having the fantasy in a fantasy. Still if you want it for the looks it's not an absolutely terrible storyline, just really messy and you feel a bit lost. It did have the feel of another film I'm a fan of though.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msS8otYxgSc I recommend Jeff Waynes War of The Worlds at least once.
  5. ....on CD. Weird eh. it's good listening material so I don't mind. IT was 3 for £10 so I got this, and my mum got Die Hard trilogy and best of Beautiful south.
  6. Minimal pageviews at best. Sure when they snare reddit in their grasp it's potentially effective, if it wasn't for Reddit auto-downvoting any direct link to kotaku, allowing imgur screenshots only. I'd say the overall net effect is a negative one to pageviews, since over the past few years most of us here have stopped reading altogether. Same way Fox gets a bad rap and apart from the few "look at this retarded article here" I never read them. The problem with Kotaku not caring is that despite their massive loss in February, they're still one of the top gaming sites. Despite their attempts not to be. And to that end many sites look up to them, or at least follow their style and ways for a chance of, at the very least, the scraps of page views to pick up. It gets to the point where it becomes a large pile of shit. To paraphrase a "wise man"; it's like going to a food court for a meal and all the restaurants are McDonalds*. They're a successful business sure, but it's not what you want all the time. Gaming news is junk news. It's regurgitated reprocessed shit 90% of the time. There's opinion presented as fact. There's sites that will just copy paste other sites with no background checking. There's sties that will pretty much just print out the press release as an article. Sites that'll run a "hey look at the tits on that game character" then a couple days later decry sexism in the games industry. That just run bullshit. Take quotes out of context from developers then wonder why press releases are the only forms of communication. That pretty much just become a marketing vehicle for "GOTY X" in the middle of march. I understand that there's not much "gaming news" beyond things like the California ratings case, the Infinity ward case, the odd death in the industry. But still doesn't mean simple standards should have to slip. It's all a bit of a clusturfuck. *except the Sterling Burgers joint where the burgers are made of rotting meat from the finest bred cows and it's service with a punch. And for some reason some people really like this.

  8. The population of earth is 6.8billion people Mount Everest is the largest mountain in the world. Xbox Live is the best online gaming platform in existence. Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time. Facebook is the largest social network on the net. Are you sure it was a "completely subjective statement". Cos in my opinion, it wasn't. It could be argued that they are fanboys. However I think it's just an example of lazy writing, or just getting too used to presenting their own opinion as fact.

I just did a DeltaGamer writeup that mentioned it. I've downloaded but not played yet. Looks good.

      WTF

I tried it a few days ago actually and have to admit it's fun but forgot to mention it on the forums.

  10. "Americas fetish is penises" "Americas fetish is guns strapped to the thighs of hot women" "Americas fetish is surprisingly linked to articles that can get us hits" Or just this. edit: btw popped on kotaku cos it crossed my mind* that they might, as is the way, do an (attempted) movie review of harry potter, since it's quite big n all. This is the top story atm: http://kotaku.com/58...-a-lot-of-sense It amuses me how often games bloggers are unable to do a whois lookup http://www.whois.net...rosoft-sony.com I can't for the life of me think who probably has a HQ at "One Microsoft Way" or who probably has DNS servers at msft.net. Its probably Microsoft, but who can be sure... This is a site that reported on the Xbox Pure, and plenty of other rumours but put in a "probably" clause for something that's quite obviously fact. I'll leave the for others to pick apart. Also unified under a single banner it would shrink immensely. The fact one costs and the other doesn't isn't even covered. Never mind the issues with ideals the two have for their network as we've discussed in the past, or been given examples of like with MS n BF3. Bonus of the little show going on in video game blogs the past day regards to the "Sony-Microsoft" thing is that is has spurred me on a bit in my "why a single console world would suck" article I promised a while back.
  11. This isn't internet, this is aimed squarely at gamers: The: Microsoft = Xbox Sony = Playstation though process that goes on. The thought that Microsoft is a huge software giant and Sony an electronics manufacturer just seems to leave peoples mind every now n then.
  12. your "15 minutes" is your "15 minutes of fame" as coined by Warhol. Pretty good prediction. And a "look in" is to be part of something (an event normally). "Me n Ted went to watch Harry potter, but Tod didn't get a look in" Oh to be "on your tod" is to be alone. "I went for a walk on my tod". Probably a reason why Tod is a little used name these days. tad is small/little/bit. "This orange squash is a tad strong"
  13. A Sony-MS made console? That'd be a nightmare. Both for developers and gamers.
  14. http://www.pressxordie.com/2011/07/15/friday-freeloader-kerbal-space-program/ I had quite a bit of fun with this. If you want something to fill in a few hours, I recommend it. http://steamcommunity.com/id/deanbmmv/screenshots/?tab=&showdate=1&filter=shortcut_39657 (shame I didn't upload one of my prettier images)
  15. Saw this earlier. Would be my bet. There's little sense in joining up console ventures for either of them, and their quite different approaches anyway.

  17. The company? I do have quite a distaste for them and their business practices. I wouldn't say no to being given an iPod/iPad though. The person below me has never left their country.

    Wii U

The first to market helped out a lot? They're barely a few million ahead of PS3. As this gen progresses it becomes more and more certain that PS3 sales will surpass the 360. And that's with the handicap of starting a year later and a $900 price tag. And the stigma of the RROD as a result of the early launch will most likely have some kind of side effect if they have an early launch for their next xbox too. Also we're in the WiiU thread. I'm thinking an 8th Gen general discussion thread is in order. Though I think there is one. Thursday has hit a nail on the head. Officially it's the first 8th gen machine. But on a technical scale it's the last of the 7th gens, and since it has similar spec, it's going to end up with similar 3rd party games of PS3 n 360; 7th gen consoles. It remains to be seen if 8th gen will turn it into another Wii. An under powered console with a gimmick.

    Wii U

Windows 8 is launching at the end of this year. If that changes any of your numbers. Though no doubt the next Xbox will have a Metro theme. They're already shifting the 360 across.

  24. Frances population is 65million. 18 million is a lot. When you're having to send out letters to nearly a third of your population surely you must realises it's a bit of a farce.
