  1. There's a third option of "if it's not complex, and it's not simple" ; "It's not complex, and it's not complex". It's not a black n white option, there are shades of grey in the scale of usability. Rocket science and boiling water are not the only two levels of difficulty. The patching method steam users are used to is just seeing "3 items complete" at the bottom of Steam. There' is zero input required, it's all automated. When you go to play a console game and have to wait for it to patch up for 10 minutes, it's not fun. (It does let you squeeze in some frozen synapse though). Regardless of simplicity console patching is still amazingly annoying n infuriating and is the spanner in any argument of consoles being plug n play. Modern consoles are not in anyway shape or form plug and play and stating as such nowadays would be an out right lie. If the console gamer wants to play online, then yeah there's a decent enough amount of console games these days that require you to redeem a code. We have a thread dedicated to those games. And while they don't need to use NEtflix, both Sony n MS have made it a big point to highlight that a fair chunk of console time is spent on Netflix. Sony even used it as a bullet point at their E3 Keynote. Yes PC gamers owners* use Wi-Fi. And no, Nintendo don't hand hold you in calibrating your Wiimote. Maybe on initial boot, but after that your on your own. I can safely say I know many absolutely moronic 16 year olds. Also don't underestimate that it's the parent buying and setting up all this new technology. 12 year olds may be able to play it, but they sure as hell can't afford it. *this is another issue. If just you own a PC you're able to do quite a few things, but suddenly when it's for the purpose of PC gaming they're suddenly complex tasks in the way. Hooking up Wi-fi, running AV, updating Windows, etc. They're all things you need to do whether you're intending to play BF3 or not. I always thought it odd my mum hated using the red button, but could set up her VCR to record like a weeks worth of shows fine. And use Ceefax n Teletext. It's just cos it was "digital" it became hard. It's all it is, there's nothing hard about a fair chunk of stuff, people just assume, or because it's "technology" it's obviously hard n requires a degree to use it. edit: just going off track a bit: I'd say one of my appeals with PC gaming is I can go from facebook or whatever and boom I'm now gaming. there's no setting up, unravelling/charging controllers (okay on some games), no waiting for updates. If you're wanting to play online just click their name n poof you're in their server (whereas consoles tend to work the opposite, requiring you be invited in) It's kinda nice to go "I want to game" n seconds alter being in a game.

    Wii U

The Wii let you use four controllers and only came with one in th box. Unless they printed it out on big billboards saying "IT ONLY COMES WITH ONE BECAUSE THAT'S ALL IT CAN USE" then yes it's a reasonable assumption that if they were sold in stores it's so you can build up your collection of Uuumotes.

    Wii U

I'm pretty sure they're aware. You'll just have to buy a new console. I'd assume you'd be able to buy them like replacement parts (for example afaik they don't sell Sensor Bars on their own) If they sold them in stores people might assume you can use more than one per console.
  4. I've found it's actually pretty good with range. I'm not exactly in a huge room myself.
  5. Well just to keep the chain going: How many modern games that are crap get fixed with the patches though, as opposed to removing the bugs of an early launch? (but seriously though, answering a question with a question is a bad move generally. Also you never answered how many old games had bugs) And we're not saying it's "too complex" or anything like that. Just it's not the simple plug n play of days of yore. It's not too complex, but it is more complex than days gone by. Also you're really stretching back now. Days of putting a floppy disk was almost before consoles, days of being able to put a DVD in a console n play was barely 5 years ago. They days of floppys was days of C64 n such, when PC's were built the way consoles are now. Console gamers can supposedly redeem DLC n MP codes, line up games on Gamefly, n movies on netflix, calibrate a Wiimote, install new hard disks, set-up Wi-fi, etc. But buying and playing a game on Steam isn't a piss easy task? I get Saturines point that Steam isn't the be all and end all, but it is currently a (conservative) 30%+ of the PC market, and has a pretty huge chunk of games. Unless you're using Linux (in which case fuck off saying PC gaming is too bothersome for you), it's on all platforms. It's simple to use, it will tell you if it supports controller, it doesn't tell you if your PC will run the game, but CYRI does.
  6. I'm not 100% sure but they all look like SD cards to me. Minus the write protect. Actually... Which wouldn't be surprising given that Sony make them and used them in PSP. They could even be the game carts. Pricing wouldn't dare deviate.
  7. Nah I'd say even with Motion plus the Move still beats it out. Move has much higher fidelity n greater range (it's an orb, so 360, whereas it's a line of sight beam on the Wiimote)
  8. How often were games buggy in the older consoles though? Dodgy translations was about the worst you'd get on a frequent basis. There's also pop the game in, go the store n redeem your multiplayer mode, then patch, then play. The general argument here is that most often people will say how much more simple console gaming is because you put the game in and play right away. That all went out the window last gen. And in the same time that consoles have being adding on more n more elements between the process of the disc going in the machine and you playing, services like Steam have reduced PC gaming to a case of clicking an icon n viola the game loads up you mash [Esc]a few times. Games auto-patch (and come all patched up too), they scan your hardware n set up the best settings for your machine, the multiplayer tends to be part of the game. (There's a couple shitty console ports here n there that foul up) They are now on a parity. "Consoles are simpler" is no longer...well no longer truth, nevermind a viable reasoning.

  10. Back of your average HDTV: The bit that says PC IN is surprisingly not for your Police Constable. And what hassle is involved between using a pad on a PC and on a console? Plug cable in the front USB. Sorted. It's the exact same on all three platforms. As for Kb/M, there's wireless options. You might want a TV table if you intend to make it your main input. If not you can get dinky kb/m controllers like this which would help control the OS where the joypad doesn't work. I get that PC Gaming doesn't suit all people and circumstances, but it's a bit "eurgh" when the reasons folks use are things like "it's a hassle to do the same thing I do okay on console". WHERE ARE THESE JRPGS AND OTHER STUFF YOU TALK ABOUT? I've got Last Remnant which is a decent JRPG. (also PC is the only platform it runs on half-fine) There's that Recettear too. You can emulate for most titles 6th gen n before. There's a Shin Megami Tensei MMO too.
  11. Still not really as quick as updated several hours ago.
  12. Yeah I'm thinking, especially within this forum, there's not much need to defend tron.
  13. Wait, wait, wait... It's difficult to: 1) Insert disc 2) Push a button to accept update 3) Sit for three minutes as the console downloads and installs the update 4) Play the game That's all I did when inFAMOUS 2 had "Update 1.01" upon insertion. It was truly difficult on my end. Then again, who am I to judge when I know there are people who can't run a System Update, even when the console itself tells them to update and where to update. Didn't imply it was difficult just that: 1) Click Icon 2) Push a button to accept update 3) Sit for three minutes as the console downloads and installs the update 4) Play the game Is much more accessible.
  14. Latest update added all the pre-order DLC
  15. No I don't think it has been mentioned
  16. If it's a Work phone, maybe best not asking us but your work
  17. If yo're spending $400 lump on a single GPU you deserve to be shafted. Even if you get a new $200 card once every 3 years you'll do very well. $200 will net you (looking at new egg) a GTX560, a very respectable card. Just going with $100 and upgrading every 18months you can get yourself a GTX460(Well $109). The GTX400 series came out April last year, any owners here with one feeling they want to upgrade in a few months? I'm currently on a now 2 year old 9600GT, currently $70. I'm not able to pump things out at the absolute best graphics on some of the latest games, but I can still play with a quality that puts a fair chunk of my console games to shame.

    Wii U

The PS3 has a chip inside that powers several of the top super computers. Don't mean it can do the same thing as those super computers. So saying Wii U n Watson shares the shame chip means very little. By the sounds of it the RAM is similar to the XDR RAM in the PS3. Which would be neat, though hoping they have a bit more than what the PS3 has. Either way IBM must be loving this. They make the chips in all the current consoles. That's just shy of 200milllion chips. Nintendo really need to come out with just how powerful this chip is over the PS3 n 360. If next year they're bigging up PS3 n 360 ports then few hours later at Sony keynote Wada walks on stage, seemingly showing us Advent Children for some reason, then points out it's in-game game play for Final Fantasy VII HD on the PS4 due next year, then suddenly Nintendo are fucked if the Wii U is on-par with current consoles. It wouldn't even be out and it would be obsolete in respect to the core demographic.
  19. P4 just copy pasted it across. Blame him. Feel free to go edit it.
  20. I've been told there's a ton of typos in it. Maybe I should stream the later one so folks can see that it was oh so much worse Feel free to edit it, the Sony one nearly went up with my "5 minutes" spots. Didn't realise you'd put that tomb raid-ugh line in not Cyber
  21. I still think cost is stupid. I don't know anyone who owns only a console. If you're up for spending several hundred on a PC so you can facebook, then surely sticking a £100 card in too to be able to play a fair chunk of games on top of that. £400 for facebook = okay £100 for gaming = too expensive. Heck even the most basic of PC's will play a fair chunk of games. These days there's tons of indie titles that run on nothing. I have a £200 netbook, got about 15-20 games installed n working on it. Some as old as HL1, some as new as Frozen Synapse. That's a 1.6ghz processor n Intel GMA. And less than the cost of a console. An entire PC. PC gaming is much much cheaper than console gaming. This is fact. It only gets expensive when you start adding on the absolute top end stuff. Running it on par with consoles is certainly cheaper, if you want the fancy bells n whistles, higher than HD looks, AA, etc then you still have a good way before it costs more than console.
  22. http://www.g4tv.com/...emo/?quality=hd I'm getting a huge appreciation of trailers that just show the game. Also it looks really fucking nice. The menu is a bit as a PC gamer.
  23. Right I added a poll to the top, so folks can figure out what systems people will be getting the game for and therefore hopefully make it a bit easier to get together squads n such.
  24. (and this is missing the balance board n Wii-oooo controller) Also most modern games tend to do the whole setting up the graphics for you. Just scan your system, put it in the right resolution n best your card can do. I kinda get your "needing to know whats inside" but that comes with computer ownership anyway, whether you're gaming or not. Unless you're someone who goes "I have several hundred quid to spend, let's not pay attention to what I buy" though I may have just noticed Apples sales model... It would be nice if Steam had something like http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ built in.
