In searching for a TV show to keep me occupied in the face of all recent shows taking on a 10 episode per series run I settled on Stargate. With SG-1 and 10 series, SG:A at 6 series and SG:U at 2 series, and a few movies, and all a healthy 20+ episodes a pop (maybe not SG:U, I haven't checked on that one) it'll keep me for a while (was a decent few months back when I binged it in Uni). My memory was that SG-1 took a bit to get going, but it gets into some elements pretty damn quickly and many things I thought were in later series are all within the first dozen or so (e.g they're almost off the bat with the Alpha gate which I thought wasn't around for a while. It's interesting seeming them slowly build up the mythology of the show, and the various "rules" of the stargate and playing around with that. To me it's in the pantheon of Star Trek and Star Wars it just never really got its due. It covers usual sci-fi tropes from human experimentation, human rights, war crimes, prime directive (there isn't much of one here ), and identity etc. And that's the first series. I like it cos it knows where to be serious, and where to be silly and let itself sort of poke fun at itself (the entire "Wormhole Extreme" stuff for example). Jokes about "Macgyvering" systems together, or "we can't just send a computer virus to their mothership". It's also late 90s early 2000s too with its netscape navigator n 90s haircuts. I might jump on to Farscape after (which is even sillier, but also very imaginative), which has a bit of crossover in the cast between the two shows too. Claudia Black, who'll many of you know as Morrigan from Dragon Age, one of the Asari (iirc the half-krogan asari), Chloe in Uncharted, Tess Everis in Destiny, etc plays a big role in Farscape and a later recurring role in SG-1.

So how fucked are you playing Destiny now if you don't have the newest expansion?

Africa would likely be much more financially better off if they didn't waste their money making their mines out of diamond. I feel slightly bad for that one.

tbh at first I figured this'd be a generic "go vote" thing, impartial and all but it's definitely leaning towards one candidate One of these guys played a president on TV so you should certainly listen (he's a pretty good president on TV..from the bits I've seen. I've heard it's a good show, my Step-dad really enjoyed it).

Popped my disc in (paid £6 for it if anyone is curious). I'm 22hrs in, level 20. Currently at the town in the desert. Current goal is on the other side of the map in some mountains, though no idea what that goal actually is, or the relevant quest. I'd totally have to start over again at this point . I do remember the combat being kind of clunky.

I remember after having Nier recommended to me, and I think picking it up kinda cheap, that I kinda drifted off from it part way through. I think it was the travel that did me in. Oh n some weird text-based mission that was kind of annoying n obscure. I dunno, I could give it another spin some point.

I know a bunch of the "Gaming PC" makers have started working on VR backpacks, essentially powerful laptops in a hardshell backpack n you run the VR system in to that, lets you be free form, though I imagine if you're on the Vive there's the wires to deal with to the "lighthouse" but probably some method to make them wireless. There's the dark horse too in Google Cardboard. For one it's super cheap, and most everyone has access to a device that supports it. Samsung must be making some pennies from their Gear VR too to continue making it. And Google has Project Tango in the works too, which'll theoretically do much of the stuff lighthouse does (alongside other things). Obviously you're not going to get something like Star Citizen running on a phone anytime soon, but stuff like the office demo thing, and such are likely quite capable. In fact the Nvidia Shield thing has been running stuff like MG:R native so you can get pretty beefy. And the screens on mobile phones far surpass those on the Rift & Vive so less of a fly screen issue too. But that's all likely a bit out, Tango is still in the prototyping stage (though I've noticed a couple apps for it in the "Early Access" stuff on Play so who knows?)

Final Fantasies on Steam: FFIII FFIV FFIV: The After Years FFV FFVI FFVII FFVIII FFIX FFX/X-2 FFXI FFXIII FFXIII-2 FFXIII-LR FFXIV FF Type-0 Final Fantasies not on Steam: FFI FFII FFXII FFXV FF Tactics The odds are pretty in the favour of FFXII getting a PC release come end of '17. Type-0 n FFX got HD ports on console then ported over to PC so even stronger odss. They've even alluded to bringing FFXV to PC too. Steam Spy puts FFX HD at 200K owners which isn't bad for a primarily PC game. 160K for FFIX. Even Type-0, the sort of step-child of the series has 130K, and FFVII rocks in at a pretty decent, and somewhat expected, 1,000K (which it's sold without steamworks on the S-E store, since I have that version, so that won't even be all the copies). XII will be rocking mainly for the fact that as anyone who played it in PCSX2 knows, it came with HD-ready textures already. It released in 2006, just as 7th gen was bursting on to the scene. I think there was the anticipation of it being played on PS3. Main downfall is the mushy text and maps. I imagine upon release someone will do a "PCSX2 versus Zodiac Age" comparison.

Oh yeah, one thing that's pretty neat (and I'm well aware is a "producing content" type thing but it's all good stuff) is them knocking out some Cosplay guides. Kung Fu Panda 3 I think I actually watched this before Jump Street, something was itching my mind that there was way more films than that I'd seen. Anyway Kung Fu Panda films continue to be pretty dang good in humour, heart, action and a gorgeous art style. Strongly recommend checking this out if you haven't yet (and checking out all of King Fu Panda if you'd stupidly passed it up). Shutter Island So I went in to this knowing the "twist" but honestly little else. As is the nature of films in a post-internet age. But I'm sure I've mentioned I largely don't care, and in some cases prefer. In this case it actually made the film much more enjoyable I'd say since you notice much more incidental details the first viewing rather than watching it straight then having to rewatch it to notice things. The casting was all a pleasant surprise, only knowing it had Leo in. Sir Ben Kingsley always welcome in a film. I quite liked the timeline of it too, allowing it to bring in elements of horrors of leaving from WWII with a bit of cold war paranoia.

Tom Baker is great. It's interesting to see what bits of the EU are being pulled in to canon now Disney wiped the slate. In this case it confirms Ashla and Bogan, which were the two moons of Tython, where the Jed'aii came from (Bogan was always in darkness, Ashla always in light. Jed'aii, as I think I covered earlier, were actually totally into the balance of the light and dark sides of the force. If you strayed too far to one or the other you'd be sent to the opposite moon for meditation n such to bring yourself back to balance).

I came here to post that, damn time zone differences. First half of the trailer story wise is covered in Kingsglaive. I think story wise it'll be similar to FFXII in that it's the small nation that's caught up against the big bad, as opposed to the usual "big bad tries to destroy the world" type situation. In fact also like FFXII there's the sort of sub-plot of gaining ancient royal weapons, oh and brief chats with sort of semi-god like beings that are manipulating things (the "Varya" I think they were in FFXII...google they're the Occuria, and Venat was the rogue one). Here they're the Luciens, which provide a kings power via a ring separate to the crystal. As of Kingsglaive Luna has the ring to pass to Noctis and Niflehiem has the crystal. I imagine a chunk of the game is in trying to get both. Oh and the summons being boss battles before you acquire them is also a thing from FFXII. Ardyn will be interesting. The VA seems really into playing him which is always a good sign. Talking of VA since you stole the TGS trailer from me! Also there's a weird pre-order game thing playing as Regis: It's defo out for Gamestop pre-orders, unsure about GAME.
