  1. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2011/may/13/la-noire-game-review?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter First LA Noire review is out. From The Guardian, of all places? Mod: Warning, plot spoiler in that review. Pretty vague, and probably predictable if you had thought about it much (or played any Rockstar game ever), but it's still there.

Why am I not seeing a review? Did they jump the gun and forget about an embargo?

Hehe, I guess they did! Leave it to an actual news outlet to screw up an embargo.

@Frosted: I don't think they meant technical attention to detail, I think they meant attention to detail in world-building, which GTA and RDR definitely ARE known for.

Also, as a warning for when that goes back up: there's a plot spoiler in it. It's pretty vague, not too specific, and I probably would have seen it coming if I thought about it, but it was still a little upsetting when I read it.

  2. Did they address if you play as a different detective if you die?
  3. I decided why I was seeing images of normal waffles colored blue everywhere, so I googled "blue waffles"...

      And I was surprisingly nonplussed.

*googles "blue waffles"*.... I need to go watch a documentary now. I can't let this be the one thing I learned today.

  4. I don't, to be honest. I've heard reasons, but none of them make any sense to me. People expected either something bigger than, or equal to, the carnage and insanity present in San Andreas. I may make others angry by assuming what they didn't like about the game, so I'll just say that some weren't happy with the overall change in tone and increased focus on realism.
  5. Why is that? I see it as 20-30 hours of HBO-quality crime drama, which is interactive and has branching paths through storylines. With a great simulation and a great script (though obviously this can only be attested in the retail release, and if it proves to be an actual failure critically I won't be getting it). To me it sounds easily worth the £40. And that's (almost) 80 of your American dollars! How do you know its good if you havent played it yet? I didnt like gta4 at all, but i loved rdr, so to me rockstar doesnt have a definitive track record, thats why im not buying it full price, or at all. It surprises me to see how dividing GTA IV is with the community. I understand why some hate it, but it was one of the best games I ever played.
  6. I suppose I could say I bought Brink, but since I returned it today, I will retract that and insert Rock Band 3. Rock Band 3 is so awesome.
  7. I feel like I'm rolling the dice again with my pre-order of LA Noire, but I feel good about this one, for some odd reason.

dude, consider investing in Gamefly. I'll be getting it a day later than everyone else, but if it sucks or simply isn't worth full price, then I'm okay. If I love it, I can buy it later when it's cheaper.

Is Gamefly that good with new releases now? Back when I had it I would have to wait weeks for new releases.

It depends on how close the nearest shipping facility, but more importantly on how you handle your queue. You have to make sure you send whatever you have at home back in time for the new release's shipping date, don't have any other currently released games in your queue, and make sure the new release has been listed in your queue for a while. It's a flawed system, but master it and you'll get that new release every time.

  8. I feel like I'm walking into the same Brink trap, but this time the pre-order bonus has me hook line and sinker. There's no way I'm missing an entire case.
  9. This is why Whiskey Media is the best network, period.
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaLcEKPeBhI NIGERIAN TITANIC. Oh Jesus, this is the best/worst thing I have ever seen in my life. Skip to 6:20 for the best part. I nearly ruined my monitor from my spit-take.

I'm amazed you made it that far.

  12. Nope. That day-one patch that they said fixed all the issues? It fixed none of them for me. I know for a fact my Internet connection is strong enough, because in every other multiplayer game I played that day, everything worked just fine. I haven't had a single match where anything worked properly. My "Press X to help teammate" has been glitched, my "Slide" has been glitched; hell, the simple act of moving forward has been glitched! I know I kind of look like some sort of asylum lunatic for going from love to hate in the span of 5-6 hours, but eventually the problems went from "Oh, it's no big deal" to "I CAN'T PLAY ANYTHING LIKE THIS!" I went from forgiving the warts to crucifying the game because of those same issues.
  13. The online is BROKEN. Absolutely BROKEN. Every single match I was in had terrible, terrible latency. I kept telling myself, "Hey, I'll shrug it off! I'm having fun, right?" It dawned on me after a few hours that NO, I was not having fun. Sure, it's unique, but it's also unbelievably half-assed. I'm such a sucker for hype. I bought that giant Collector's Edition of Hellgate: London when people were raving about it like it was the second coming of Christ. Look how that turned out!
  14. I've completely turned on Brink. Fuck Brink. That game is going back to the store first thing in the morning.

I realized that it never changes. It's always the same scenario with the 8 maps. The single-player is a wash, and the multiplayer doesn't even work right.

Sounds like most other shooters in the market.

  15. I've completely turned on this game. I'm done playing a slide show. Screw the network issues, screw the bots, and screw Brink! This game is going to be sold back to GameStop. >
  16. I'd agree with that, but for some reason, I don't regret paying $60 at all. I'm really having a blast.
  17. Last time I played Shadowrun, at which point it was 3 years old I think, there were still people playing and the game was panned by critics. Even though a game isn't attracting the big numbers, there'll probably be enough people playing that if you enjoy it enough to come back to it, you can. Even the new Medal of Honor still has people playing it.
  18. At the same time, many of their complaints make it sound like they aren't getting the point. I got the vibe that he wasn't happy with his inability to "lone gun" his way through the game, a la Call of Duty.
  19. Most definitely. I get much more points for buffing my allies' health and reviving them than I get when I go shooty-shooty and pop a few in some bastard's head. Also, I love the customization options.
  20. I've only played a couple of rounds so far, but I have to say, I am having an absolute blast. I am getting the hang of my role as Medic.
  21. Well, it looks like Joystiq really did shit the bed when it came to their review. http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/60202/Brink-Reviews-Are-A-Mixed-Bag-Some-Thoughts
  22. People really suck sometimes, y'know? "Oh, I'm not buying Brink, it has a Metacritic average of 71!"

Picked up two copies today. If I cared about what random people on the internet thought of video games, I wouldn't own half of my favorite games.

  23. I'm surprised you people actually expected a quality review out of Joystiq, especially since A)They are run by AOL, the same geniuses that bring you The Huffington Post B)They're from the same family that hosts Engadget, and Engadget is GARBAGE. I was personally looking for Giant Bomb's review, which was supposed to post around midnight (not that I stayed up for it), but Dave, site's down. Let's also look at the number of positive vs. the negative; Positive: 13 Negative: 2
  24. It's hard to play a fighting game with your brother. Go easy on him, and he gets angry. Continually kick his ass, and he gets angry. Either way, it always ends with him shutting the game off in anger.

      Really?

My brother and I just play Street Fighter... IRL. It's safer that way.
