  1. Nope, you can only get it direct from ms for 8 and they made 8 and 8.1 keys different even though it's a free upgrade so my 8 key won't let me download 8.1 from then. I want 8.1 ISO because it is quicker and creates a smaller install than 8 and then upgrading
  2. I was hoping to get it direct from MS so I knew it was kosher, but that looks unlikely. Hopefully that article will help me get a legitimate file. Thanks.
  3. That's the same instructions I was stuck on, unfortunately. MS have updated the downloaders so it always asks for an 8.1 key so that method doesn't work any more. I should be fine once I get the download as I have the ms generic 8.1 key that I can use to install (once it installs, my 8 key will activate it fine) it's just getting the download file in the first place and ms have fixed the above fiddle even though it was just a shortcut not illegal.
  4. I want to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 on my new SSD, but I only have a (genuine) Windows 8 product key. There are a ton of tutorials telling me that I use the windows 8 downloader, enter my key and cancel it when the download starts, then open the 8.1 downloader and it will automatically download 8.1 (skipping the product key entry) but this doesn't work any more - it always asks for an 8.1 product key. I can't find any answer to this though several people have posted the same problem. I really don't want to install 8 then upgrade as it twice as time consuming and apparently leaves the install a lot bigger on your HDD which is pants (plus I think that's janky as every time I go to the Windows site it says I'm on 8 even though I've upgraded to 8.1 through the app store on my current install) . Anyone downloaded 8.1 recently with a 8 key? I don;t know why they have to make it such a nightmare - I have a genuine key, and the upgrade is free, so why make me jump through all these hoops. I was excited with my new SSD but now the joy has been tainted
  5. So glad I pay extra for Amazon Prime next day delivery. Got an email at 6.30pm today: "Your package may arrive one to two business days late". I've been expecting it all day as it was marked as dispatched yesterday and all today the tracking' s been saying it should arrive today. Of course with it being marked as dispatched almost as soon as I ordered it I cant cancel it I feel like when I chose standard delivery on something with an estimate of, for example 3 - 5 business days I don't mind if it's a little late. But If I'm paying specifically for next day I'm peeved when it's not here, especially as letting me know at 6.30pm is absolutely useless and it still says on amazon's tracking page that it's expected today (it's ten to eleven at night so that's obviously not happening). Kind of annoyed as well that I just got the email. If I'd paid for next day I'd have wanted a refund on the extra charge, but since it's a yearly prime subscription I don't know what I want. I'm sure I'll end up doing and getting nothing.
  6. I really hate everyone on facebook calling each other "hun". It's in half a dozen comments on every post even though I don't hear anyone say it in real life. it really grates on me for some reason.
  7. Don't really listen to Bon Iver, but I really like this remix. https://soundcloud.com/itskulkid/bon-iver-flume-kulkid-remix
  8. Does it give hints within the game on what triggers the events or are you just using trial and error until the next sequence happens. Wish I could have a go on it, to see what all the fuss is about though I'm rubbish with scary stuff.
  9. the setting was to change from controlling his relative direction to his absolute direction. I couldn't tell you why they chose the rubbish version as default. Maybe not everyone keeps there finger on the pad the whole time? Thing is particularly in that game it was all static screens and would only take you a second or two get cross each and you frequently had to run clear across the village so in your mind you are thinking, "I'm headed due West", but you're pressing up, down and right as much as left when you really just want to keep your finger on left until you get where you're going.
  10. If you have that many emails, what the heck are they? If they're work related don't you get caught out for not even having read them never mind replying if something was important. Surely you at least have to read the "from" and "subject" to decide if it's ignorable or not and if you've done that it's barely any extra work to delete stuff that's not. I can't imagine friends and family sending that many. Maybe that's just me Apart from that Isn't there only really newsletters and retailer offer emails and you could just unsubscribe from those as you obviously not taking advantage of the offers and the news will be well out of date.
  11. I don't get it? Plus combined with your recent post in internet pet peeves I can't even tell if you're joking or not...
  12. When the direction you leave one area of a game is the same direction that heads you straight back out of the new area and into the old one again. So many loading screens! For example, I'm playing Ni No Kuni at the moment and you run out of Ding Dong Dell by pressing up but that dumps you out onto the world map under the city so I always run straight back in. The Worst game I remember for it recently was Attack of the Friday Monsters, that even had a setting in the menu to stop you doing it but I didn't notice it until halfway through the game. Super annoying.
  13. I know this isn't exactly the same but I think frozen would have been much better as a 2D traditional animation. The dresses moved so jankily that it distracted me from what was actually happening and while I think the snowman came out ok the moose lost a lot of his charm that I know he'd have had in 2D.
  14. surely that's less about the grammar and more about "laughing" at an inappropriate time. edit: maybe if that is something particular you've seen, it was meant in the old fashioned sense of 'lots if love'
  15. It's 3'37". That's not a commercial, that's a film with product placement.
  16. Mega Man 1 - 6 are on sale on Wii U. Never played any before. If I only buy one which should it be? 2?

    2. Eleven

      Eleven

I don't know why 2 would be any better... They're all the same...

As a kid though, I've only played 5. And I did love it.

    3. FMW

      FMW

I started with 1, and it was okay but there's a yellow blob boss that is total BULLSHIT. Stay away from that one.

    4. CorgiShinobi

      CorgiShinobi

I've heard from fans that it's either 2 or 3. Last I check 2 was the poster child for Mega Man.

  17. Dean, I think the link you meant to post was this:
  18. sugar free means sweeteners, which are much worse for you than sugar. Best to have the real, natural product, just in moderation. I've never seen sugar free desserts at a restaurant, only things I've seen marked as a healthy option at a restaurant are starters and mains - I guess they expect to have some restraint and skip the dessert if you are watching your weight/diabetic. I guess that's not the American way, though? Not much in supermarkets either, only things like yoghurt and drinks but it's a bit of a push to call a yoghurt a dessert. Even then healthy yoghurts are usually marketed as low fat, not low sugar and in fact usually have a truck load of sugar in, which kind of annoys me because they're far from healthy.
  19. Traditional income for Dukes would be from peasants farming their land and taxes from trade and merchants. Now along with lower peers (dukes are the highest) income will be from the fact they still own a lot of land and a historic house. rural land which they farm themselves, rent out some land for other people to farm. Moorland can be farmed and used for shoots - foreign business men pay big money to come over and act like a lord for the weekend. Any villages on their land they will own most of the buildings, so rent from houses and businesses. A lot of these families are barely holding on to their land. Debauched ancestors selling off land to pay for their lifestyles seems to be a common problem. Also, every time the owner dies and it passes to the heir they have to pay inheritance tax on the high capital value of the land and house, but do not have a high revenue to pay it. (Size of land left does not generate enough income) This has meant the land has been parceled off over the years exacerbating the problem. It costs tens of thousands of pounds to run a house and its upkeep and they are often in significant state of disrepair. This lead to the setting up of the National Trust at the end of the 19th century to take over ownership and upkeep of houses and land the aristocracy could no longer afford to run. The 1920s was pretty much the last hoorah for country estates and aristocracy living in their traditional manner. Family's that still own their estates now often rely more on money coming from the house itself not land, so paying to tour the house, tea rooms, gift shops, hiring parts of the house out for events (corporate retreats and wedding etc.). A lot of the problems are down to hereditary ownership, so people who were not necessarily best suited to running what is essentially a fairly large business are left holding centuries of history in their hands.
  20. UK/Europe: Dukes used to rule the land they owned a bit like a monarch-lite. Grand duchies (such as Luxembourg) are their own sovereign state. There used to be a lot of these before they were unified into the modern european countries. UK only: Current Dukes (of which there are many) don't have any powers, they would be Duke of [place], but do not have a Duchy but often own ancestral land, which generates income from farming/shoots and tourism on their estate (paying to tour the house, tea rooms, gift shop etc.) and rent from property in villages on their land. There are two Duchies in the UK, being the Royal Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster. They have only ceremonial powers (much like our Monarchy) but it is more than a ceremonial title. The Duchy of Cornwall provides income for the heir to the throne. The Duchy of Lancaster provides most of the Privy Purse which is what the Monarch uses to pay for the other Royals official expenses. They also generate most of their money from land ownership. They are held in trust (so only revenue, not capital is accessible by the Royals). The Duchy of Lancaster is not part of the Crown so is privately inherited by the monarch and subject to tax. The Duchy of Cornwall is part of the Crown estate and as such is not subject to tax, an issue that has caused a certain amount of controversy in recent years.
  21. There are WAY more than 300 people on those freaking Assassin Creed credits.
  22. Sade... I watched it for the video, which you guys should too - but I actually quite like the song.
  23. I don't remember a timer? Does it only give you so long before the fire dies out? Haven't played t in ages, since it came out on the wii u, in fact. I enjoyed the atmosphere though I remember being disappointed with the gameplay and story. Particularly for the price, though guess that's less of an issue now at least. Something to do with the neighbour annoyed me,though I cant remember what it was and obviously wouldn't spoil it for you anyway. may have to have a little google and annoy myself again.
  24. It's fine to bring up old threads here and if you're going to necro a thread it makes sense to do it to talk about zombies! Personally I don't play anything that exciting. My favourite at the moment is Nemo Picross. It's a pretty addictive puzzle game.
  25. While there's plenty of games I've put down and not got back to there are only a few I'm officially done with. The desire to finish Uncharted on Crushing (being the only thing standing between me and a platinum trophy) waned in comparison to the frustration I felt trying to complete it. The only problem here is it completely killed any desire to play the other two games, which pretty much everyone says are actually better.
