  1. It sounds like it was a constraint of the systems that they couldn't make big open worlds in 3D before, rather than a design decision so they probably didn't have any choice. They mentioned the same thing with wind waker when they made the HD update - they couldn't even load the empty seas never mind a populated world for that. Maybe it's something to do with Nintendo always scrimping on RAM or just that they don't really have much experience in large scale 3D worlds. 3D zelda is so different from any or their other franchises from a technical perspective. You've seen the areas get bigger and less corridory as they've gone on though. I will admit that when they showed the open Hyrule field, I did audibly "wow". I know I'm probably reading too much into the very small amount they showed but if it turns out to be a my first witcher/skyrim I will be very happy indeed. Zelda needs more side quests - especially in a large world like that and hopefully not just fighting monsters, as I actually really love fetch quests. And at least it looks like they've genuinely changed tack and come up with something new. Before now the only thing you've really had to see more of is how the art style looks but now we can really look forward to finding more information about how the actual game will play. edit: here's the Zelda section of the presentation for anyone that didn't watch it.
  2. I didn't see this mentioned in the E3 thread. GTA V is coming to PS4, XONE and PC this Autumn. I guess a few of you here will be pleased the PC version will be out the same time as next gen at least though it wasn't released with last gen. Or are you all over it now?
  3. Yes it's pretty much that in fact it has someone from the hills in it at the moment... Stephanie I think
  4. I'm guessing none of you watch it but I absolutely love Made in Chelsea. I just sit there was a stupid grin on my face. SO MUCH DRAMA. Anyone watch any constructed reality shows?
  5. I've gone back to FF XIII. It's the first and only FF game I've played. This is my third time having a go at it. I'm on chapter 10 and it said my playtime was 34 hours. I'm determined to finish it. Not sure how long I've got left of it, but hopefully I'm over half way. I enjoy it enough when I'm playing it it just doesn't seem to hold my attention. Unsurprisingly I am absolutely lost in the plot and can't remember my fal'si from my l'cie. I hate all these stupid names and apostrophies sci-fi and fantasy insist on using and all the logs in the menu are just too much. Was pretty non-plussed in my first battle too as I'd forgotten about paradigms, luckily it was only some small bat looking things so I didn't need any healing. Kind of hoping I can get through the rest of the game just upgrading and not changing anything as I can't be bothered rereading all the details I'd need to know to make informed changes.
  6. It looked cool but he was bouncing round like a maniac and I couldn't see any on screen cues as to what you could interact with like the trampoline with the flames around it would be easy to miss the speed he was moving around and the edges you could grind didn't pop out in any way. Seems like once you're on the ground it would all grind to screeching halt. At least it was a change of pace from the military shooters.
  7. I had a phone sock for my old phone but it annoyed me having to take it in and out all the time, plus you had to hold it when you were using the phone so it was not an ideal solution. My current phone has a built in case, the whole back comes off and you replace it with one with a built in flap. that protects the screen but doesn't add any bulk and since it's attached I don't have to worry about holding it. It;s held closed by magnets which also, de/activates the phones when you close open the flap. I love it and don't know what I'll do when I get a new phones. Thing I'm more worried about than the screen is the headphone socket. That got effed on my old phone and I'd hardly used it so I'm scared to use it on my new one but it sounds nicer and is less hassle than using my bluetooth adaptor. Such a dilemma.
  8. That's pretty rich when I remember Romney's wife's tale of struggle was how they only had the $$$ from his massive investment portfolio to live off in their mortgage free home while he was looking for a job.
  9. I don't understand cases, as most only protect the back which is the least vulnerable part of the phone and really don't look like they'd provide any particular drop protection. The thing that drives me mad though is screen protectors as I just see so many phones with bubbly screens and debris stuck under the film and even if it's neatly applied and clean it still ruins the image on the screen.
  10. So what's so gimpy about what you were using before the trial? Is it just the amount of memory they dedicate to it?
  11. Just finished watching the MS conference (late I know, sorry!), I thought it was funny the highlight reel they ended on had a song that kept repeating "give it to me now" when half the games they showed had 2015 release dates. That Inside game from playdead reminded me of Another World for some reason so that was a bit of a flashback. Apart from that it seemed decent but not exciting, the main problem is since most stuff is multi-platform it doesn't really generate and strong attachment to Xbox. One thing it did make me wonder as since it is so full of games we already know about and multiplatform games, I can't see how Nintendo are going to fill and hour (and a half) since it pretty much will only have first party stuff to show and that's only a small handful of games.
  12. Maybe Iwata's "illness" is the prelude to him stepping down without the embarrassment of a sacking. Oh and good luck with the minimal Smash content - that is all they seem to want/have to talk about I think at best it will be concept art, and as an alternative to TP HD, I would be happy with Majora's Mask kicking of their N64 Vitual Console service.
  13. Has anyone played falling card game? It's free to print out off their website. Or you can buy it. I heard it mentioned on a podcast and they said it was fast paced (only 90 secs long) and fun.
  14. yeah, i thought the free game is going to be worth more than any price cut it will ever get. Plus it means I'll have wind waker HD which I wanted but was annoyed by the price of that so getting it free is pretty sweet. Plus I'll get Super Mario Kart free which I will never play but still it's another free game!
  15. I've tried both Trine games. I couldn't point out what I don't like about them, they look impressive, it's a game mechanic I like - they just seem sort of soulless. I think the change to Rainbow road it's to do with online play. When it was on N64 local multiplayer, things like that only added to the fun (you could punch the person that did it!) but in online races they try and make it as fair as possible, and I remember them patching MK7 to fix a track shortcut and you couldn't play online without the update. I'm sure people will find new exploits in the new tracks, and Nintendo will try to patch them out.
  16. My guess is a decent battle mode and extra characters will be DLC, as Nintendo seem to be edging their way in to that territory. They seem like reasonable things to add on as they're not part of the core game and it would explain why the battle mode took a step backward over the previous games. I'll be buying it after the Nintendo digital presentation - I can't wait! I've decided to bite the bullet and buy the digital version even though it's dearer than the disc as I often only want to play one cup or so before playing a different game and if I had to swap discs I know I would just end up not playing it at all. Kind of hurts me to spend £50 on a game though: it's definitely significantly more than I've ever spent before.
  17. The only one I can watch live is MS, which I probably will but am not really that interested. The only one I'd want to watch live would be the Nintendo one, but I'm at work. Though considering the stuttering mess it usually is I don't mind watching it a bit later. Also, if it's anything like their normal directs it will just be a repeat of a load of stuff we already know The best bit of news they could give is a winter 2014 Zelda Wii U but I think we'll be lucky to get it 2015.
  18. I played and finished Attack of the Friday Monsters last week - I really enjoyed it even though I would struggle to call it a game as such: you basically run around chatting to people and playing the occasional card game version of rock paper scissors. It just had a really nice atmosphere, and was really calming to play. If anyone ever gives it a go use B to move, as it it keeps your direction when the perspective changes as you move screens - no running in and straight back out of a scene. I could have kicked myself as I didn't realise this until i 'd nearly finished the game I also just now finished Bioshock Infinite. It's the first bioshock game I've played, and I can't exactly say I see what all the fuss is about. I didn't find the story particularly engaging nor emotionally affecting. maybe I'd have got more out of it if I'd played the previous two? Who knows but it hasn't inspired me rush out and play them.
  19. I don't think she'd abdicate unless she became seriously unwell. Her sense of duty is pretty much her defining characteristic and her duty is to serve her country, not to "give her son a go". The tradition in this country is to reign until you die, which seems different to how other European countries do things. I'm personally looking forward to September next year when she'll become the longest reigning British monarch. After that, there's no way if Prince Charles is healthy he will not become king, the whole reason some people hate the monarchy is that it's hereditary, not a popularity contest. Having said that despite the fact he's more opinionated than the Queen, he's well enough liked and pretty much everyone except Express readers are over the Diana thing. People can see how happy he and Camilla are and she's been wise enough to keep a back seat and I think that's softened most people to the situation.
  20. just rewatched the last video I posted and it is brill!
  21. 4 second clip needs sound, doesn't auto play
  22. bread making is a dark art - good luck. Tougher bread is good for dipping in soup and if it tastes like alcohol you could make a tomato one and call it a bloody mary soup!
  23. I wanted to take a link between worlds on holiday with me tomorrow, but I haven't finished a link to the past yet (I just cant seem to get on with it for some reason, I've tried several times). Has anyone played both games? I'm guessing there are going to be many references to the past game, but as long as they make sense on their own terms so it's not obvious I'm missing the point, it should be all right? Urgh. I should probably just take a different game, but I feel like playing Zelda. I need to just plough through LttP first... Dammit, no Zelda for me
  24. trigger warnings are useful because people can filter out the tags so they don't see those posts at all. I can see where Mister Jack is coming from though because some of the things I read on tumblr make me want to punch the person in the face until my knuckles bleed. I know there are blogs out there full of emaciated people and images of self-harm which I understand would be bad for people to see, and I find it jarring if a picture like that ends up on my dash, even though it doesn't really affect me. BUT, for example, this happened on my tumblr dash: blogger makes a post - "had pasta for lunch it was lovely". It got a reply "can you tag that it's very triggering for my problems/bulimia". It was already tagged [food], and seriously could you have created a more innocuous post? [very triggering] is a phrase that's very triggering for me. Some people are just looking to be offended and if that sort of post is genuinely a problem then you should literally not go on the internet and need a stay in hospital until you can interact safely in the real world.
