If we put aside the business side of it and look at the film strictly from an in-universe standpoint, the CEO of the company that built the Major's body was a white guy named Cutter. The doctor/scientist he hired to run that project was also a white woman. Looking at it that way, it's not that strange that they would just go with the body type they're most familiar with. They also had an international market to think of, and when you get right down to it there are more white people out there than Japanese people. Obviously, I would have preferred a Japanese major and I'm a little tired of ScarJo being in so many movies, but I'm not really up in arms about the casting either. Of course, I'm not as big a fan of this franchise as some people. Something curious that's also worth noting is that when actual Japanese people (as in from Japan) were interviewed about the issue, they gave off the impression that casting a white actress bothered them far less than casting a Japanese-American one would have. I have no idea what that's about. Do the Japanese not like people who leave the homeland? Or do they not like the idea of Hollywood trying to pander by casting an "almost-Japanese" person?

Regarding Samurai Jack

For the record, I don't think they cast Scarlett as the Major because they were afraid to have a Japanese lead. I think they did it because they were trying to bank on having a household name as their star and there just aren't many Japanese actresses over here who are famous, let alone as famous as Scarlett. It didn't work, but I still think they were more concerned about recognition than race.

Nothing on Jojo yet. Believe me, when they announce it I'll be the first one to know. I wouldn't bother with Berserk either. This game, Nier, and Final Fantasy XV. No, they're not imports. I'm even playing them on a Sony tv. Edit: Curiously, changing the display area on my TV from "normal" to "full pixel" seems to fix it, which makes it sound like there is a display issue with the game but at least I have a workaround. The screen size was already set to full.

Technically the move to the cafe was the protagonist's parents' idea for the length of his probation. I guess they didn't want to deal with a problem child or something.

Anyone else having an issue where the game screen doesn't quite fit the tv right and parts are cut off around the edges? This is like the third Japanese game I've had this problem with and I'm beginning to wonder if there's some kind of regional reason for that. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

It's really surprising because regardless of how you feel about how Nintendo designs their hardware, it's usually pretty solidly made. I have an old game boy that still works. I didn't think Nintendo would do a redesign of the Switch, but they might end up having no choice at this rate.

I know that originally Basch was supposed to be the protagonist of FFXII but the higher ups were afraid kids wouldn't buy a game starring an old man and so we got Vaan.

Nier: Automata I've already got most of the trophies so I might as well platinum this one as well before I get Persona 5 in the mail.

Ghost in the Shell I wasn't planning to see this one but my friend had an extra ticket so I figured why not. I don't have any strong attachment to this franchise so the changes didn't bother me as much as they probably bother the hardcore fans. As a standalone film, it's a decent enough popcorn movie, meaning that it's not too dumb but it's not that smart either. It's well made, and the visual style is quite appealing, but the story is pretty predictable. The action scenes are alright. Not spectacular, but alright. I don't think most people would regret going to see it, but at the same time I wouldn't really urge anybody to go check it out. It's a decent way to spend an afternoon if you're bored just for the cool effects and atmosphere. As far as I can tell, this is currently the best western film based on a manga, but I know that isn't saying much when the alternative options are films like Dragonball Evolution and Astro Boy.

So this is a big spoiler for those who aren't watching Samurai Jack yet but those who are might get a kick out of this.

Berserk is back!

Removing Jontron's contribution to the game in light of the recent controversy is an understandable decision, even if I think it's an unnecessary one, but banning everyone who complained on the steam forums and then going on twitter and mocking people who are upset about the decision is just dumb, dumb, dumb. That sort of childish behavior just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If they were determined to remove him from the game, they should have just put out their statement and then gone completely silent on the matter until it blew over. There's nothing to gain from intentionally riling people up, and I'm pretty sure this will end up affecting their bottom line. The kickstarters won't get refunds, but they will get to write steam reviews, and they're probably going to nuke the game's rating to Kingdom Come. Not everybody keeps up with gaming news. There are bound to be people who see that the game has a negative rating and decide to pass on it without looking into it. The Steam forum for the game has turned into an absolute clusterfuck, too. All they accomplished by banning people was encourage an army of shitposters to come and take over the entire board.
