  1. Thing is, Valve can't put EA's content on sale if they don't want them to. I think it has more to do with them not wanting to give a cut to Valve. Also, I heard something about Valve requiring that DLC for a game be available through Steam, essentially forcing them to do so. I have no idea if the last part is bs or not, though, but it does kind of make sense when you consider that both Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 disappeared from Steam right around the time their first DLC came out.
  2. Yeah, totally saw this coming. Pretty glad I switched to PS3 a few months back.
  3. Yay, my Razer Sphex arrived today! It's very thin and kinda feels like it wasn't really worth 20 bucks material quality-wise, but eh, at least it's very large, sticks to the desk and looks way cooler than the shit blue Dell mat I was using. Pretty much everything I wanted out of it.

  4. Currently 6$ on Greenman Gaming. Deal ends in about 8 hours, though. I passed on it when it was about 7$ a week or so ago. I honestly have no idea what changed... I think that after spending about an hour tonight shopping around for earbuds and finding nothing, I just wanted to spend money on something. Probably also helps that today I found out I don't have a single book to buy this semester. That leaves me with quite a bit of extra cash this month
  5. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention Mantis. But I did mention The End and Ray vs Rex as being particularly good. Can't say I'm a fan of The Fury, though. Actually, now that I think of it, the Cobras always felt pretty generic and uninspired to me. Especially The Fear and The Pain. And I thought all four of the B&B from MGS4 were even worse in that regard.
  6. Been meaning to invest in a proper mouse mat for a while since my Deathadder gets all wonky when I put it straight on the desk and the shitty Dell one I'm using atm is, well... shitty. It's too small, ugly and keeps sliding and won't stay in place. Was over at my aunt's during the holidays and my cousin had this one and showed it to me. It's fairly large, which is nice. But more importantly: it sticks to whatever surface you put it on! No more pausing the game to readjust the mat! Now I just need to invest in a fancy keyboard and I'll have all the shiny gamer toys I need
  7. I see people complaining about boss fights very often, but personally I love them. They're by no means necessary, but I definitely enjoy a good boss fight. The God of War series has some great ones. They're not particularly unique and usually pretty simplistic but I think they're just crazy fun. Of course, unlike most people I have absolutely nothing against QTEs, so it's possible I'm in the minority here. Then there's the Metal Gear Solid series. I'm a huge fan of it, but most of the boss fights in it are either too easy or just annoying. Except for the sniping boss fight in MGS3. That one is just such a unique experience and I don't think any other game has come close to pulling off something so diffferent in terms of boss fights. I replayed the game last month and methodically crawling around scanning the jungle for 15mins only to finally spot the old bastard and shoot him right in his fucking head is still as satisfying as it was 8 years ago. The ones from MGS4 were just awful, though. Well, the two against Ocelot were pretty cool, especially the final one. But the Beauty and the Beast ones? Just... blergh. Whenever I replay the game I just load up on RPG ammo and one shot them. Oh and I also liked the ME2 reaper one. It had a kind of old school feel to it that I thought was really cool.
  8. I also picked up the Indie Royale but in my case it was mostly for Nuclear Dawn. Was curious about it after TotalBiscuit mentioned it in a few videos and the gameplay looks fun enough but I was hesitant to spend 5-10$ on it alone. Now I'm really glad I held off. Fractal also looks nice. Haven't looked up Super Crossfire yet, though.
  9. Ugh... double post. Oh well... So, I imagine I'm probably quite late to this but I just found out about Chameleon Circuit. Not quite sure yet of the actual musical quality, but I find the idea of Doctor Who-inspired music to be pretty cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_xB1AYhlCE
  10. Digital copy, straight from Blizzard's website. Had been thinking of getting StarCraft 2 but after spending so much during the Steam sale I decided to wait a bit. So I got this instead. I actually never finished it, if you can believe that. More accurately, I never played any of the Zerg or Protoss campaigns. In fact, the only one I ever touched is the first Terran one from the original and I don't think I ever finished it.
  11. I guess it all boils down to what you personally prefer because I feel the complete opposite. The fact that they removed all the strategy and depth of the combat in DAII to focus more on action resulted in me having zero interest in playing it. I don't think that automatically makes it a bad game, but they removed all the elements that made me love DA:O as much as I did. :/ The game could be unforgiving at times, but fuck if I didn't love how I could get my ass handed to me in a fight, only to reload, adjust my strategy and completely dominate. Some of the most satisfying combat ever, imo.
  12. Well, I think it's fair to consider it "beat" after a single game considering there's no story and a single game can easily last longer than the average shooter. But yeah, personally I would at least go for something like each type of victory at least once or something similar before considering "finished". Pretty much has infinite replay value, anyway.
  13. Ugh, fucking hell, had like 3 whole paragraphs written up but then some copy/paste "accident" made me lose it all and fuck retyping it all. Basically, it varies from game to game. Some will put them in their Steam directory, some will upload them to Steam Cloud in which case you don't need to worry about it, some will put them in My Documents and then some will put them in weird ass places like C:\Users\your username\AppData\ etc... Some games will also use different directories depending on the version of windows you're running.
  14. Yeah, pretty much that. Good idea with noting the dates of completion as well. Hadn't thought of that. I think I'll also keep a goal list of sorts. A more selective backlog of games I want to try to beat before the end of the year. Curious about one thing. Civ V is listed under completed. At what point did you consider it completed? First victory or something more elaborate? So far it's looking like my first of 2012 is going to be the original Dawn of War. Skipped the expansions the first time I played it, so I decided to start over from scratch and work my way through the whole series. Space Marine made me crave more 40K.
  15. I actually got a cool idea from reddit about this. I'll keep a list of the games I complete in 2012, in a .txt file or something. Should be interesting to see how much it grows and how fast. I'd be curious to know how many I completed in 2011, but I really don't feel like going back through every single page of this thread... The guy who thought of it found that it quickly became a strong motivator to complete more games as he found himself wanting to keep adding to the list. Should at the very least be a fun little experiment.
  16. Alright, this should be the last round. Past few days: Also grabbed the remaining Shogun 2 DLC. Today: I'd been hoping for a Sup Com daily deal, but it never happened Also, kinda kicking myself for only getting interested in King's Bounty today because it was a daily deal at some point... Really stocked up on strategy games this year, which was intentional. All part of my 2012 gaming resolution: to stop sucking at strategy games! I think that's a slighty more achievable one than something completely unrealistic like conquering the steam backlog
  17. Happy new year! This is indeed a fine forum. Definitely the best community I've ever been a part of.
  18. Martin Freeman is Watson? Nice! Started getting it but it's going fairly slow atm Probably won't be able to watch tonight...
  19. Yeah, I agree that it's very hard to compare Smith to the others. And I think that's what's brilliant about Doctor Who. In the right hands, that show can never get stale. And thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely check those out. Actually, Sherlock's been something I wanted to watch for a while now. Think I even downloaded it at one point, but never got around to it. Didn't know it was Moffat, though.
  20. So I'm almost done watching the fifth season. So far Matt Smith is... pretty good, actually. I'm still not sure if I like him better than Tennant (I actually teared up a bit during the last 15 mins or so of End of Times) but he's certainly not inferior. At first, I still preferred Tennant, but then this happened and suddenly I wasn't so sure anymore But really, I feel like the overall quality of the show has significantly improved. It actually feels like a completely different show, which I guess was a smart move. Like you said, new Doctor, new TARDIS, new companions and everything. But not only that, the feel of the show has changed. I'm really loving the darker tone and the season arc feels more organic and focused. Also, looking back at old episodes' credits made me realize Moffat actually wrote some of the darkest episodes of the past few seasons, most of which are among my favorites. Stuff like the Empty Child two-parter from season one that introduced Capt. Jack Harkness and the Silence in the Library one as well. Was also really glad to see the weeping angels again. So, yeah, not disappointed at all.
  21. StarCraft 2 for 30$. Kinda want, but after spending over 100$ on Steam, not sure if should...

@Faiblesse: You got a point there. I'll probably be able to grab the first one much cheaper once Heart of the Swarm comes out.

Hahaha Hadn't even noticed it got cut off. Sorry. He said that Dawn of War II was a continuation of the story started in Dark Crusade, so it would make more sense to play it first.

  22. Yeah, SpaceChem is absolutely amazing. Maybe I'm just dumb but some of the puzzles are really mind-boggling at first glance. So I feel really clever when I come up with a solution after thinking about it for 30mins
  23. Hmm, seems I forgot to post about it, but I beat the Metal Gear Solid series (as in 1 through 4) a couple of weeks ago. I'd already played all of them, but MGS 2 and 3 were the new HD versions and it was the first time I played all four in a row. Still working on Peace Walker, though. Haven't really touched the PS3 since the Steam sale began. And while on the subject, I've already finished one of my new purchases: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Pretty sure it's the first time I actually finish a game bought during a Steam sale before the sale ends. I don't play tabletop miniature games but I absolutely love the 40K universe, so I enjoyed this one quite a bit. It gets kind of repetitive before long, the combat system is rather shallow and the game can be a bit frustrating at times but I still had a blast playing it. That being said, I think there is a lot of room for improvement. I would love to see them improve and expand on the formula in a sequel and maybe come up with a story that includes more of the lore rather than just limiting itself to the humans, orks and chaos.
  24. It was one of the few big games I was on the lookout for, but I was hoping for more than 50%. So after hesitating all day yesterday, I ultimately decided against it because I'm at the point where I realized I spent a bit more than I thought I had! But then today's deals came up and I saw there was nothing of interest to me, so I changed my mind at the last minute
