  1. After listening to it pretty much exclusively for the past week, I think I can safely proclaim that the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Greatest Video Game Music album is FUCKING RAD!

Sure. Let's go with that. :P

  2. Yeah, the controls are very deep in MGS3. Took me a few playthroughs to fully master everything. Like, understanding you have to click the damn analog stick to interrogate enemies. The game really made me appreciate how pressure-sensitive the buttons of the dualshock 2 were. THIS. The last scene with boss made my eyes misty, but I kept a STIFF UPPER LIP. However, the EVA portion of the ending... cried. The Boss part is what got to me. I didn't even remember the Eva part until you brought it up and I actually tried to remember it. Man, this thread is seriously making me ache for the HD Collection I was planning on getting it next month anyway, but now I kinda want to just get it now even if it means being completely broke for the next two weeks...
  3. Yeah, the ending of MGS3 is some powerful stuff. I'm pretty sure I teared up a little bit the first time I finished the game. I can't remember any other game prior to it that got me genuinely emotional. I still firmly believe that MGS3 is the best in the series. MGS4 was awesome. Just not as awesome as MGS3.
  4. That would be awesome. Yeah, it's pretty big. Lots of big games come outta there, too, so they obviously have a large workforce. Kinda cool to have such a big studio in my city
  5. I'm confused. A few places are reporting on a supposed Metal Gear Solid 5 announcement, but then the actual articles only mention an interview with Kojima in the next issue of UK PlayStation magazine... As unsurprising as this might be, you'd think they would make a much bigger deal out of this...

It says right on the cover of the UK Playstation Magazine that Kojima wants to kill off Snake. Dude's old and not expected to live longer than six months or so anyways, so don't be surprised if we get someone new for MGS5.

I agree that at this point any MGS 5 with Solid Snake as the main character will seriously undermine the impact of MGS 4 as the end of the saga.

I would love more proper non-handheld MGS, though :(

And as awesome as I'm sure Rising will be, that feels more like a spin-off what with the focus not being stealth.

Frankly, at this point the best thing would be to bring in a new protagonist and start a completely new story. Maybe even drop or replace the Solid in the...

the Solid in the title. Just, you know, as long as the core gameplay remains faithful to the main series.

  6. I see I guess I'll just have to wait and hope for the best. Hopefully they started work on it a while ago and aren't rushing it. It really needs to be bigger and better than ACB and ACR. Another thing that bugs me is, as big as Rome was (and I think Constantinople might actually be smaller than that), it still felt small when compared to the first two games, which both had 3 or 4 cities each. Sure, some of the early cities were smaller in ACII, but at least it made for a change of scenery. I understand the need to keep things contained in a single setting if they're putting them out yearly, but that's only acceptable for "side-stories" like Brotherhood and Revelations. ACIII needs to step it up and have a much bigger scope, otherwise it's going to be a huge disappointment (at least for me).
  7. I've been playing AC Revelations for most of yesterday and all day today. Not very far into the story, though. Spent most of the day renovating Constantinople and training my assassins. So far it's about on par with Brotherhood, with some slight gameplay improvements. The hookblade in particular is pretty awesome. It actually helps with the free running/climbing beyond just ziplining. The gist of it is very much the same, though. And I find Constantinople to be nowhere near as beautiful or fun to explore as Venice or Rome were. These yearly releases have been fun, but I really hope that they take their time for ACIII to significantly improve on the formula. Brotherhood and Revelations are pretty much AC 2.1 and 2.2 and III will need to be more than that. They already confirmed another release for next year, though, so I guess we'll see...
  8. My pre-order has shipped. Hopefully it'll get here today.
  9. Hahaha, damn, I don't know why I didn't think to let her carry the loot when I was overencumbered instead of dumping the bigger things. I remember using Sheva as a walking inventory in RE5. And yeah it's pretty funny how invincible she is. I killed her with my sword out of curiosity first, but later I experienced and did something hilarious. I was on top of the High Hrothgar mountain. I got to the very edge, had her follow me and using the unrelenting force shout I sent her flying over the edge. She just fell down the fucking mountain and disappeared into the storm. I immediately fast traveled to the nearest city and to my surprise there she was, standing right next to me. So I proceeded to use the shout again just so I could watch her tumbling down the huge set of stairs I was standing at the top of
  10. Well, the release of AC Revelations kinda snuck up on me. I mean, a week ago I knew it was coming this week, but for some reason as the days passed I never adjusted my mental ETA, so today I get my shipping notice and I'm all surprised! Hopefully Purolator aren't slow and I'll get it tomorrow!

I don't think that a one year dev cycle is bad, if they can manage to make a great game in 1 year. So far, not including this game cause I don't know, Assassins Creed games have gotten better with each new game, and the last 3 were on one year cycles. More power to them if they can pull it off.

Yeah, it's all about the quality of the final product. And the AC series has been consistantly excellent, imho.

But to be honest, I wouldn't mind if they took a few years to make ACIII and improve on the formula as significantly as II did on I.

    4. Faiblesse Des Sens

      Faiblesse Des Sens

I've already put my thoughts in some thread about how much the quality dropped between 2 and Brotherhood so I won't bother here but I really wish they would take their god damn time. You don't need SIX teams to develop one game.

  11. Missed this post initially, but yes, I have the same problem and no solution. I also had this issue and managed to fix it but I did two things and I'm not 100% sure which one did it. Might have been a combination of both. What you can try is turning on loudness equalization in your sound settings. Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound and then in the properties of your main audio device go to the Enhancements tab and there should be a list of options you can tick on and off. You wanna tick on loudness equalization. (note: I'm on Windows 7, so the location of this might vary slightly depending on your OS) The other thing I did was installing the newest driver for my motherboard's onboard sound card, but I'm pretty sure even after I installed it it didn't fix the issue until I turned on loudness equalization in those settings as well. Hope this helps!
  12. At least the puzzles weren't all as obvious as the ones in Uncharted 2. But I completely agree with you that it's slightly less exciting than the second one.
  13. It could just be that the game is taxing your system in a very specific way that it can't handle. If that's the case, the problem is still with your system. For example, could be your GPU overheating. Did you try lowering the settings? Put everything at the lowest and see if it still happens.
  14. Are those the three copies you already bought or three new ones?
  15. So in a moment of weakness I caved in to the hype and torrented Skyrim and MW3. Well, I was always going to torrent MW3 because I wanna play the continuation of Price and Soap's story, but fuck paying 60 bucks for that lazy rehash. I bought it last year when it was called Black Ops. But I digress. So, I figured I'd give Skyrim a quick try, probably not get into it too much and buy it later down the line, or when the inevitable GOTY drops. Started playing and about halfway through the first dungeon I realized there was no way in hell that was happening. The game already had its hooks into me in a way even Oblivion and Fallout never did. It's not perfect by any stretch of the word, but holy shit I love the changes they've implemented. Not picking any major skills or class and having a perks system instead just works. Might piss off hardcore TES fans, but I think it was a brilliant move. It means I'm that much more unlikely to end up with a screwed up build that's too weak for the enemies' level. Hell, I fought against 3-4 enemies simultaneously and managed to win. In Oblivion, I would've been hopelessly outnumbered in that fight. The UI was obviously designed with a controller in mind. It's fucking stupid that you can't click on menu items directly and have to navigate the menus with WASD. But at least it works well and is intuitive, I guess. I absolutely love how spellcasting works, though. When I realized that as long as I held down the mouse button my hand would keep shooting a constant stream of fire, well that was a holy shit moment. It's a simple change but it makes such a huge difference. It was very annoying in Oblivion to have to cast stuff like restoration five times in a row and watch the animation every single time. Also, it's possible that my expectations were simply too low because this is a Bethesda game, but a few things actually impressed me. First, the water looks awesome. The first time I came across a stream, I just stood there looking at it for about 5 minutes. Next, shortly after I realized how spellcasting now worked, I decided to have some fun. So as an enemy approached me, I readied my flame spell and unleashed fire upon him. Then some fucking grease on the floor caught fire and not only did he fall down instantly, but it also killed the fucker that was a few feet behind him. My jaw dropped and I could not contain my giddiness. This surprised me in the same way I was surprised when I first saw the collapsing building in that E3 2009 Uncharted 2 demo. Just... woah. I really hate playing without paying, though. No idea when I'll be able to afford it, but I need to buy this game asap. Oh and a quick off-topic. I mentioned a few times how DCUO would always crash on startup for me. Well, turns out there was a bigger issue. Both Skyrim and MW3 did the same thing, so I got on Steam and realized any semi-recent game did the same thing. Human Revolution, which I'd played only 2 months ago, behaved in the same way, but older stuff like Deus Ex and Doom 3 would launch fine. Could never figure out what was wrong, so I had to format. Luckily, I keep my windows installation on a separate, smaller partition with nothing particularly important on it, so formatting is always painless B)
  16. Oh yeah! Just cleaned up my case and GPU with an air compressor. I swallowed a TON of dust, but it was totally worth it for the temp drop. Now my GTX 295 idles in the low 40s instead of the low 60s!

What did you do to get the really stubborn dust out that sticks underneath where the fans are?

Turned up the air output pressure. Pretty sure I got most of it out.

  17. Holy shit, seriously? I never noticed that! Gonna have to pay closer attention when I get the HD collection lol The MGS3 thing makes sense, though. Considering the setting, it's logical that they'd be speaking russian. But it would be pretty damn impractical to make the whole game in russian with subtitles.
  18. Such as..? Mostly when it comes it Revolver Ocelot and Liquid's arm, that whole thing. And a bunch of details on the Patriots too. A lot of the "articles" on there contradict either with the game sor the database itself. Not to mention it's not updated with any Peace Walker info either. Well Peace Walker wasn't out at the time, and I can't really blame them for not updating it, really. As for the whole Ocelot and Liquid thing, the series has inconsistencies.
  19. Yeah, that thing rules. What was awesome is some entries were locked until you had reached a certain point in MGS4 to avoid the encyclopedia spoiling the plot for you.
  20. Holy crap! Comes home from getting a tooth extracted: new email - You have been selected to test Star Wars: The Old Republic :o

Haha for sure. But honestly, I didn't mind the dentist that much. I hadn't been to one in over a decade and for the past few weeks I've been having pain so intense it kept me up at night. So it's actually a huge relief to have that fucking demon tooth out of my mouth!

    3. TheMightyEthan

Maybe if you'd gone to the dentist you wouldn't have had the demon tooth in the first place. :P

Really, now? That's your tactic? Using logic with a guy who thinks there was a demon in his tooth? Some lawyer you must be! :P

  21. Funny you should say that. I recently watched the movie adaptation of All-Star Superman (pretty sure I posted about it in one of the movie threads) and thought it was.... weird. It wasn't bad, that's for sure. But it was certainly the strangest Superman story I'd ever experienced. My favorite still remains Geoff Johns' Secret Origin, though. But to be honest, my experience with Superman comics has been really hit or miss. And unlike Batman, I mostly stuck to stand-alone miniseries, soI haven't read a whole lot of Superman that wasn't just a retelling of his origin story. That's the main problem with having a 700+ issues series. You don't know where the fuck to start reading, and it sure as shit won't be at #1.
  22. Damn, that kind of explains why choice was so limited when I started shopping around for my ps3 hdd... Couldn't even find a 5400 rpm at the size I wanted. Also explains why prices were higher than I remembered. I'd looked at notebook hdds before and I remembered them to cost around 50-60$. But I ended up having to pay 90$ (shipping included). I figured that as unlikely as it seemed, perhaps I had been looking at recertified drives all along without realizing it. This makes more sense. Luckily, the hdd was a gift so I didn't pay for it with my own money. Pretty sure I have the same drive. Even almost three years ago it still only cost me about 160$. This is insane.
  23. Woo! Got my new HDD and my shit is being restored. In two hours, my PS3 will be just as it was, only with about 200 additional GBs of free space :D

      Yeah, that's pretty much it.

And yeah, I was long overdue for the upgrade. My 80GB has been pretty much full for over a year now, so whenever I had to download something larger than a gb or two, I needed to delete something :(

    3. CorgiShinobi

      CorgiShinobi

Same here. I had an 80GB, but some time ago I switched to a 250GB HDD. I think I still have 100GB to go too.

    4. WTF

      WTF

@kenshi it also depends on your make. In some models you when you switch the HDDs you will need a usb or a usb hdd with the latest firmware patch (in the same directory structure as the patch would be think it's PS3/PATCH/ if memory serves me right).

  24. Toki Tori is awesome, but it made me feel real stupid real quick because I did not get very far into it before running into levels that made me go "how the fuck am I supposed to do this?!"
