  1. Yeah, I am really looking forward to it. Just a bit torn about which characters and powers to try. Might possibly have a go at creating ones like my SuperZeroes...just which one(s)... I can see the costume thing being a nuisance but I guess, on the plus side, even the most random assortment of pieces doesn't look terrible (I'd be happy to see myself proven wrong though!). I'm guessing they got Jim Lee doing all that too.
  2. Didn't they do the same with II as they did with Brotherhood? Make it a sign-in on startup, plus include an offline mode (where the bonus content is locked off). Or do you mean you wouldn't buy it on principle?
  3. My friend said he managed to annoy the guy at the booth at the Eurogamer Expo by doing what Carmack said and backing into buildings then quickly turning around.
  4. Plus, they are infamous for that ridiculous DRM (even if it is changed later) so maybe people are just steering clear of their PC games. I think that point has been made before though.
  5. 'Cause they're watching the Net, man! And if they do find out about the data, it's not so easy to just hack a brain, duuuude!
  6. Inside your head you have a memory implant used for smuggling data, that you never asked for, and want to have it removed. So you accept One Last Job to carry some data for someone in order to afford the operation. But then the Yakuza and a pharmaceutical company are after it. Turns out the data is about curing a plague that has been affecting mankind and the pharmaceutical company wanted control of it. In the end you succeed in getting the cure out and removing the memory augmentation, thus gaining access to long lost childhood memories. Also, you need gloves and a VR headset in order to use the internet.

I like it. I don't often run up against this kind of thing, but I hated it in GTA: San Andreas because it gave me the same play system as GTA3 and GTA:VC, yet even though I had all my skills from those, it artificially sabotaged me until I did enough grinding to get up to par again.

I think a lot of your later examples also show cases where the "infrastructure" of the game starts to show too much and starts to get in the way of gameplay.

Thanks, guys! And, yeah, that's a good example actually, fuchikoma. Completely forgot about it in that game. I think the territory thing being part of one of the later missions earned it the most ire from me.

  7. Heh. Looks like I checked it occasionally but managed to miss your bit completely. D'oh!
  8. It's odd. I was going to include that point about Oblivion but not use an example like that. I just happened to read a thing on Nightmare Mode that included a relevant bit. The fact that I read anything on there is probably most surprising (although Tom's usually pretty alright), since I'd found myself disagreeing with or just plain disliking stuff I'd read before.
  9. Guess I should pop back in to share the final article. PLUG! http://pressxordie.com/2011/09/30/the-good-the-bad-and-the-attractiveness-2/

I had never heard of this but you best believe I'm downloading the fuck out of it.

  10. Harry Brown. It's not spectacular but it has some good moments and a sort of conflicted ending. Pretty brutal in some bits, and it sort of demonises some of the characters a little too much in some respects.
  11. Remake/port/HD version-whatever. There's still a fair bit of work involved beyond 'better textures', especially since, in a lot of cases, you're not working with the same hardware as before.
  12. "You failed to maintain your weapon, son". Such an English one-liner. (The context is that he had tried to shoot Harry but his weapon misfired/jammed)
  13. Everyone dismisses remakes as lazy when some sound like they actually take quite a bit of work.
  14. And N64 gamers probably thought Carmageddon was a terrible series. Poor, misguided fools!
  15. The problem with Yorkshire is it's filled with Yorkshiremen.
  16. As far as I know, we don't use the 24 hour system in speech. Just in written form. I prefer it because there's no ambiguity. No one was talking about forcing the US into changing...
  17. This is not really a 'vs.' thing but I'm wondering what 'stealth fries' are. We get lots of food from Costco, and these are damn tasty but they don't seem any different to oven chips. Is that just the name they have in the US?
  18. Yeah, while it might not be a problem for me (at the moment), I am particularly against that form of DRM.
  19. Yeah, that's part of the reason why I went for it on PC. Not that I think it would affect me, though.
  20. Thanks, Battra. In the end, I did look incredibly snazzy, if I must say so myself. Ordered Volume 5 of the deluxe editions of Y: The Last Man, which I believe shall wrap up the story. Looking forward to it.
  21. Grabbed Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood for PC because I saw it was down to £7.
