  1. I've decided to pass on Battlefield 3. It looks awesome but this origin stuff goes too far.

While I think the lack of an in-game browser is stupid, I do have a niggling feeling in the back of my mind that it was the community that made them go such a route. If you look back at the negative comments about the Battlefield series, there's one that's been brought up a bunch - Dice can't do server browsers. Perhaps after hearing that for so many years, they decided it was time to try a different approach. Not justifying their decision but it's hard not to think the commun...

ity had something to do with it.

Their main issue is that they're trying to appeal to the same crowd as COD - had they stuck with the formula they used in BF2/2142, they would have made the fans happy and likely still sold well. Unfortunately, I doubt that "well" was "well enough" to EA.

  2. Looks like it could be fun but I don't know if the same old Counter Strike can get me excited. BF3 looks so much more interesting.
  3. The Rangers were 7 games up in the west a week ago and now they're only up by 2. This sucks.
  4. We have a whole thread on the pricing thing. As far as lowering the pricing affecting people trading back in I don't think they're related. The people I know who trade to Gamestop do it because they don't play games all that much and they know they will never play a game more than once. No matter what the price is they're going to trade that game in because even if it's only $5 off a new game that's still $5 in their pocket rather than a game sitting on a shelf.
  5. yeah, generally best to do things one step at a time so if something goes wrong you know what you did. How did you get it working?
  6. I just remember that in the original you could scope your pistol and zoom in and cap anyone even easier than if you were using a sniper rifle.
  7. I'm trying to decide whether to be all humane or not. I'm beginning to think this is going to be more fun just killing everyone. I didn't used to care about shooting every bad guy in the head in games but it seems to often these days you get punished for it.
  8. That's tempting right there. Is it a steamworks game? I know it's GFWL. I might take them up on that since they were good for Deus Ex HR.
  9. BTW: I wasn't trying to criticize TN. I was just saying that it's possible he too doesn't like Origin's EULA but doesn't feel it's right to criticize his own company publicly. If that's the case then I can respect that.
  10. getting all the rainbow drops or whatever can be a little tough. The one in the water world in particular I remember giving me fits. Also I think the "true" boss is a little tough. Hope that isn't too spoilery.
  11. In the original Deus Ex the pistol was super powerful when fully upgraded.
  12. Fair enough. I was about to ask about Witcher 2 but then realized that it's now on consoles also.
  13. To several of us Thursday isn't anonymous. Hmmm... I wonder if he's on my Google+
  14. Oh come on, it's the internet. We're all completely anonymous right? Really though, he's been a bit of a PR guy here. My only thought is that perhaps he's not happy with the news over Origin but would rather not plainly state such. Silence speaks volumes?
  15. I've been playing through AC2 a second time and man I love this game. My compy is downstairs and my wife has been feeling sick so I've been stuck upstairs watching the child. Deus Ex will have to wait anther day.....
  16. The interface on SF3TS is too HDified. I with they'd kept the old menus.

      BrainHurtBoy...2

I actually prefer it. I hold quite a bit of nostalgia for 3rd Strike, but I really do prefer the new menus, artwork and music.

  17. Well at least with TV you have Neilson boxes and people are paid to keep them in their houses and they know they're being monitored. It's almost like if Sony said "by the way, by using this TV we're selling your data to Neilson. If you don't like it don't use our TV". Where is TN to defend his beloved EA on this one?
  18. Direct2Drive has Battlefield 3 preorders for $46. http://dealnews.com/Preorders-of-Battlefield-3-Limited-Edition-for-PC-downloads-for-46/493946.html I probably would have done this before all the origin madness. Now I'm going to take a wait and see approach to this game.
  19. Looks like quad core processors are finally becoming necessary. I'm glad to see devs are utilizing all those cores now. It's also surprising to me just how minor the differences are between DX9 and DX11. It's a little disappointing really.
  20. Game news is making me depressed right now. Where are our small developers to save us from the evil publishing giants?

  21. Yeah, I suppose the cooler card on bottom would make sense.

    Apple

Of course it is. Apple is the empire built on perception. Whether it's style, or ease of use or simplicity it's all in the eye of the beholder and that's why Jobs resignation makes me so interested to see whether the mystique of Apple will live past him.
  23. At least it was a quick turnaround. I still don't like the "maybe we can get away with this" attitude but a recall (although silly) is their perrogative. Also good that they are honoring returns even though the game is steamlocked to your account. Free Deus Ex people!
  24. It's such a stupid business move too. The right thing to do would have been to ship the product back to the publisher but instead they're going to open your copy, take the code out and smile and sell it to you pretending like nothing happened. I too rarely hope for more lawsuits but I hope there is some real monetary penalty for dishonest business like this. Even the insider email is such BS. All this stuff about great reviews and whatnot. They even BS their own employees!
