  1. I'm starting to think that the whole DRM always on thing is just a big marketing trick to get people to talk about the game. It's kept Driver in the headlines for a while now. Maybe that's the real success of this DRM.
  2. So, another thought has occurred to me. Libraries. They loan out books but also Music CD's, Movies, and Audiobooks on CD. Why aren't any publishers screaming and yelling about all the lost revenue they get from the local libraries? Surely these places are costing them BILLIONS!
  3. PSU's are generally no big deal. You take all the old plugs out and put all the new plugs in. Most ATX power supplies work with most ATX mobos too. You will want to make sure you have enough 12v rails to accommodate whatever gpu you want to buy though. 650w should be fine though. As far as the GPU goes, I think the 6870 is supposed to be really good. I've got the 6950 which is a step up and I love it. If you're wondering about Nvidia vs. Radeon then just check the benchmarks on the games you plan on playing and see which brand does better.
  4. Yeah, everyone is different. I just know that in the circles I run in (middle aged family men) it's rare to get enough time to play the games you have let alone replay games you've already beat.
  5. I suppose that's better than saying "Screw you EA!"
  6. Yeah, I'm sad that it seems Hot Fuzz may be the pinnacle of Pegg's career.
  7. Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Mass Effect. All come to mind. Shooters take closer to 10 hours but that's still considerably longer than the 45 minutes it took to finish Contra.
  8. Yeah, 360 used the Unified memory architecture which turned out to be super smart. Lots of devs hate being stuck with 256MB of VRAM on the PS3. Hopefully the Vita will be able to access that 512MB of RAM for video.
  9. Well, the other big difference with games now is the nature of them. With old games like Contra you'd go back and play them over and over. Now games are a 20-40 hour process and it's extremely rare that people go back and replay their old games. Additionally there are so many new games out that you're even less likely to replay an old one. Couple that with the fact that you're going to get a new COD and Halo every single year then you never need to keep your old one. All of these things impact why people whom I know trade in their old games. They all also have nothing to do with gamestop. Also, the used copies that gamestop sells on day 2 are usually just played by employees. Gamestop still probably paid full price to the publisher for those. There are no used copies of a game that were never sold as new to begin with unless gamestop ate that $5 themselves.
  10. who knows. Isn't it usually on these mobile chipsets? If it's anything like an iPhone 4 it'll be a system on a chip.
  11. I really want a Vita but unless Sony announces a launch game I want I will probably wait to get one.

  12. Vita Ram is confirmed as 512MB. Not cut to 256. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2011-08-17-vita-ram-confirmed-as-512mb
  13. That makes sense. I notice that turning the tessellation off makes the game run so much better. haha! "This model may well be the most complex representation of a concrete traffic barrier ever used in any video game, movie, or any other computer graphics-related enterprise. The question is: Why?" for those conspiracy theorists here: "Unnecessary geometric detail slows down all GPUs, of course, but it just so happens to have a much larger effect on DX11-capable AMD Radeons than it does on DX11-capable Nvidia GeForces. The Fermi architecture underlying all DX11-class GeForce GPUs dedicates more attention (and transistors) to achieving high geometry processing throughput than the competing Radeon GPU architectures." Crysis 2 is part of a Nvidia sponsorship so maybe they did this on purpose to say that it's the "way it's meant to be played".
  14. First you think this is Infamous 3 and now you think that this is zombies? Did you even watch the trailer? Did you even read whatever article you read? Anyways, looks like werewolves and/or vampires. mitebcool Sorry again, I'm at work so I didn't bother to watch the trailer. I heard someone say it's like RDR undead nightmare so I thought that meant zombies.
  15. So... I bought my copy from GMG already. I'm going to be a bit on the upset side if it wont work. From the GMG Staff: "We have assurences from the publisher that all keys bought will not in fact be region locked in this specific instance. My colleague Rob will post a more in depth response as soon as we can We're rather busy in the GMG office this morning! Games Com! " "They(keys) still work everywhere. They will continue to work everywhere, and we have 100% confirmation from the publisher from this. There was a while yesterday when we were told there would be lots of different versions but the publisher emailed us last night to confirm this would not be the case! "
  16. Ah, that must be it then. I'm not a big fan of zombies.
  17. Infamous 3 will be digital download only and all Vita games will be on PSN. Digital distribution is the future like it or not.

Lets look at their pricing on games on PSN now. €70 for Red Faction Armageddon

    3. Faiblesse Des Sens

      Faiblesse Des Sens

In the NA store we only have Guerrilla which is priced at a reasonable $20.

    4. Saturnine Tenshi

Ugh. I couldn't play any of my Steam games offline when I didn't have internet. Just another affirmation of my disdain for digital distribution.

  18. I think steam is a great example of how digital distribution has clearly cut costs and eliminated the second hand market. The fact that publishers will sell their games at the sub $10 level or offer their entire catalogs for $60-100 is a bit insane. If publishers came out and said "we're locking you out from ever selling the game again but we're cutting the price by $20" I think everyone would be just fine by that. That's essentially what they've done on steam except with more steep discounts.
  19. So the next infamous will be download only. I'm telling you people, the next consoles will be digital distribution only.
  20. So, I always find Marketing fascinating. Sometimes selling can be an art in and of itself. One of the things I've been noticing lately is how games like The Witcher 2 have been keeping themselves in the headlines well after their release by putting out new updates and patches constantly. Seems like it's cheaper advertising than just buy ad banners and they're providing something to players as well. Pretty smart it seems. I remember Burnout Paradise kept itself in the headlines for a long time doing something very similar. Anywho, just wondering if you guys are seeing any other strange marketing trends that you like or hate. Also, on marketing:
  21. Oooo, I too would like to see a Jade Empire 2. I'd also like to see a Black 2. That first game was so much fun.
  22. I really don't like shooters that make the weapons overly inaccurate. When I shoot at something I want it to die. Too many times would I fire off 15 sniper shots, a couple of them hitting a few missing only to have enemies run away. I get some of that is due to multiplayer balancing but it's still very frustrating to me. Oh, that trailer looks awesome.
