  1. Anyone who says Burnout Paradise > Burnout 3 or Revenge can get out!
  2. American's don't really love the imperial system either. Most people won't able to tell you how many quarts there are in a pint. I think it's just that while we have some idea of how long a mile is we have no feeling for how long a kilometer is and if you tell us how much you weigh in kilograms we'd be lost.
  3. That's pretty common these days though. Look at Halo: Recon ODST
  4. There is a ton of competition which means long hours and little pay. That's pretty much what killed my desire to work as a game designer. Additionally a lot of the designers said they don't play games anymore because after working a 10 hour shift programming games they don't want to go home and play games. This made me want to become a game dev even less.
  5. I started blowing everyone away after I can't knock people out. It's fun. Also: if they ever make a stealth game without ventilation ducts we're all screwed.
  6. Yeah, George Lucas described the typical trilogy best. What he said was basically Chapter 1: introduce the characters. Chapter 2: get them into the worst possible situation. Chapter 3: get them out of it. It makes sense really. For AC it would be Chapter 1: Introduce Miles, Lucy, templars, assassin's and struggle. Chapter 2: learn Chapter 3: save the world. Yes, I know that you can't have everything planned out from the get go but filling in the cracks is different from filling in the major plot points.
  7. So.... "Gears of War 3 will have a "season pass" for its downloadable content -- a strategy we're seeing used by Noir-ly everyone with a long term, post-launch DLC plan. Microsoft claims the 2400 Microsoft point ($30) season pass will "guarantee a 33 percent discount on the game add-ons." It'll be available on September 20 and include an "exclusive" Liquid Metal Weapon Set." So a little math tells us that there's going to be at least $45 worth of DLC for this game? Ugh.... Given that I got each of the first two games for $20 it's hard to stomach twice as much as that for a few map packs. Who needs subscription fees for shooters? We have to spend $60 for the newest game each year and then another $45 for the map packs. $105/year sounds like a subscription to me.
  8. So I saw this: http://www.destructoid.com/ac-revelations-answers-some-questions-leaves-some-open-210035.phtml and I read this: ""Keep in mind we're following the typical trilogy structure," Revelations creative director Alex Amancio told us during a behind-closed-doors demo at PAX. "So of course, everything can't be answered." So what part of releasing several filler games in the middle to pad out the profit margins qualifies as "typical trilogy structure"? Also this bothers me: "But at the same time, we want to avoid what I like to fall the X-Files effect, where you risk crumbling under the weight of your own mythology, so a lot of doors have been left open." So they don't have the mythology written out already yet eh? I'd like to think this is a surprise but sadly I suspected this already. I fear they're going to suffer from MGS syndrome where they have trouble wrapping it all up because they're making it up as they go.
  9. I took several classes at my university as advanced free electives including game design, and some 3D modeling. Most of the people I met in there were just engineering wash outs who thought arts and technology would be easier. We had a lot of guest lecturers come in and talk to us from lots of different studios including Relic, EA, Gearbox and a few others. The one question that I asked all of them was "do you need a degree in this to get a job?" and they all pretty much said "No". From what I understand it's best to get really really good at one thing whether it's animation, lighting, texturing, whatever and then focus really hard on that and then learn a little bit of everything else. Put together a really nice portfolio of all the work you've done and you'll get in. It doesn't help to be okay at everything because most people have very specialized jobs in game development.
  10. The one retail job I landed was at Circuit City (I was one of the ones who got the door in the infamous layoff). I got the job by going in and asking to talk to the manager and then just telling them how I knew all about cameras and computers and other things and just being really friendly with them. Face to face contact whenever possible is huge. In the corporate world that's not usually possible though.
  11. Much the same way I think lots of kids would call the N64 or PSX retro now considering it's been 15 years since they were released. That's right, 15 years. That means if you met a 7th grader the N64 was out before he was born.

Joel let a bunch of us know just how much he thought of our criticism, so I let a bunch of people know where they could freely criticize him without fear of reprimand.

Stealing Kotaku commenters again eh? Woot!

Not really "stealing" them, just giving them a place of refuge of sorts :P

  13. 7 ERs in 6 innings for Jerrod Weaver and that's why you don't pitch on short rest. Great game.
  14. Suck it Angels! That grand slam was awesome!
  15. Yeah, this is such a PR move here. "We care about your privacy and would never install spyware which is why we hold the right to collect any data from your computer we want"
  16. I hate retarded crap like dolphin diving. It really ruins the fake realism.
  17. yeah, the computer cares what is plugged in where. Did you uninstall the device drivers before you swapped slots?
  18. The revised Orign EULA is still a load of crap. I'm still not installing it on my machine until everything about collecting data is removed.

Yet no one is bitching that Steam's EULA says the same shit in different words.

  19. Well gamestop's apology is a surprisingly good one. $50 gift card is a pretty good peace offering.
  20. Well the EULA got revised and it's still a load of crap. They're still going to collect all the info they want they're just not going to sell it to anyone. The whole problem is I don't want EA spying on everything I do. I love the bit they threw in there at the end "nor would it ever use spyware or install spyware on users' machines." If that were even remotely true then they would have removed this section entirely.
  21. Actually you got that wrong I believe. Metroid = Metroid: Zero Mission Metroid 2 Metroid Prime Metroid Prime 2 Metroid Prime 3 Super Metroid Metroid Fusion (Metroid 4) Not positive about that though. The primes throw me off as I haven't played them.
  22. I'm should compete. I already have Shogun 2 but if I win then I can organize another competition and give it away again.
