  1. It's taking a long time for the AI turns to complete its turn even in the early game (1000 BC) on a large continents map. Is my laptop just weak, or have others noticed this, too?
  2. Civ VI is decrypting. My body, mind, and soul are ready.

Is there going to be a version on The Switch? Otherwise I don't care!

  3. Gerrymandering is a real problem, but it has nothing to do with presidential elections. U.S. federal elections are actually run by each state individually, generally under the purview of the secretaries of state. To rig a federal election would require collusion among the secretaries of state of both parties, which makes no goddamned sense. It's also grossly irresponsible to claim the election is rigged without any proof. Last time that happened here was on the eve of Lincoln's election; it was part of the rhetoric leading up to the civil war.
  4. My African classmates in college and law school were always tickled to be called "African American" by their classmates, especially their African American classmates.
  5. I'm heading straight from work on a mini-vacation to Long Island for my birthday, so I had no choice but to get the digital version so I could play it after my wife goes to bed Friday and Saturday. Also, I used Amazon gift cards I've gotten for my birthday on it, anyway, so I'm not sore about missing out on the deals from other sites. I'm pumped for this game!
  6. I am hyped for this. I've watched an embarrassing number of let's play videos of the press build and I am very excited to try out the new district and tech systems. It looks like the promise of more specialized cities (rather than building the same buildings in every one of your cities) in a civ game has finally been realized.
  7. Pulled the trigger on Civ Vi since I doubt it will get any more discounts on cdkeys or gmg before release day. I just hope Amazon sends me the code early so I can VPN to Europe and unlock it Thursday night.
  8. All of my status updates or comments on status updates have been doubled today.
  9. I am not sure I can survive the weeklong wait for Civ VI.

Yeah, I missed out on the sales too. I do have a physical preorder from Amazon for 20% off, but since Amazon charges tax it's still like $52, so I was really hoping for those $45 deals to show back up.

Damn, GOH. Didn't you link me a sale? :<

I did, but I was slow thinking it would get a deeper discount. Oh well.

  10. Just about to finalize the contract of sale and put the down payment/security deposit on a 3 bedroom condo in Park Slope (the second floor of a four story brownstone). Only 5 or 6 months until we can move in. I'm excited and terrified to be a homeowner.
  11. Swiss Army Man is about friendship, particularly between modern men. I co-sign that it's zany, entertaining, unusual, and great.
  12. We are living through a very significant political-historic moment. I can't look away.
  13. No, I did not, but I want to go back and review the wrangling. I haven't done that sort of law for a while now, but I am fascinated.
  14. About 50% of the funding was already in place (from private investors; I think they get a cut of the profits or something else, rather than a backer reward) when the public campaign started the other day, to be fair. Note that it is scheduled for release in frickin late 2019, too. Fig seems like a very interesting platform for early backing of game projects. I'll be looking into its structure and how investment works a little more heavily this weekend, as I'm quite interested in the types of laws and regulations that would apply to Fig projects.
  15. On a related topic, do you Brits use "muppet" as an insult? I have an Irish colleague who uses it as his go-to insult. Edit: Also, that document you linked to uses "pre-" and "post-watershed" a bunch. What does that mean?
  16. Patrick Warburton is Snicket? Huh. Did not expect that.
  17. I didn't think so; just amplifying your point.
  18. Yes, the courts can make and enforce all sorts of orders that would have a serious effect on Saudi's business relations with U.S. companies. But it is very dumb to give the judicial branch a major role in international relations between the US and foreign states as it undercuts the executive's necessary power to manage those relations (and the legislative's comparatively minor role in the same). The law will be modified so that any such lawsuits will have to be approved, essentially, by the executive more than the current law already does (that is, currently the executive can put those suits on hold indefinitely if it claims to be working on resolving the a lawsuits' claims diplomatically). Edit: and, of course, the tit-for-tat possibility of allowing foreign suits against sovereign states is enormous.
  19. Yeah, in the Southern coastal areas there may be cities with funny tap water from constant floods and proximity to the sea, or a lot of old buildings whose pipes are bad and made from lead or other toxic materials even when the municipal water supply is good. Generally, Florida and California, IIRC, have some of the worst tap water systems in the U.S. I mean, of course Florida's water sucks; *everything* sucks in Florida. But if you ever come to NYC or surrounding areas, we have some of the cleanest, best tap water in the world, thanks to our enormous aqueducts and reservoirs upstate. It's very clean, cool, and plentiful.
  20. My stipulation was more about rural well systems not being safely potable any longer in most of the US and it being accepted by the affected people.
  21. A lot of US tap water is not very potable, especially where Ethan is from. Country folk best not drink well water any more unless they like carcinogenic runoff. It's potable in most larger towns and cities, more or less. Also, everybody calls it a fridge here.
  22. You find mayo bizarre, Ethan? I think most folks expect mayo (or its fancy sibling aioli) on their sandwiches. I mean, I dislike most mayo and put mustard on mys sandwiches, but I get why people like mayo. Buttered sandwiches are also good, and I've always enjoyed the change when I've been to Europe. I've had a few buttered sandwiches here in the USA, but mostly at German or English taverns. Some Americans call toasted sandwiches of all types toasties, but I've seen "toastie" used more (although it is not common) to mean a toasted open-faced cheese sandwich, sometimes with meat or other toppings as well.
  23. I found Tharsis on easy to not be too ahrd after a few tries, although you can get totally fucked by the RNG, too. It is nearly impossible for me on normal.
  24. Would be neat if it were coming out for PC.
