  1. Quantum Break is now getting a simultaneous PC release. Word, I guess

Which you get for free with a digital preorder of the Xbone version. So that's interesting.

You also get Alan Wake + DLCs + American Nightmare.

That's a solid deal but, honestly, I'd gladly give up all that just to get it on Steam. Especially since I don't have/want an XO and already own all the Alan Wake games...

Also, it sounds like Gamestop reported that Gears 4, Scalebound and ReCore are coming to PC and then corrected the "error". Pretty sure ReCore was already known, so it's possible that was information they weren't supposed to share just yet. Man, if Scalebound comes too...

Damn, those system requirements are steep.

  2. I think Kasich would be the least bad GOP president of the current bunch, but they'd all pick atrocious Supreme Court justices who would turn America into a libertarian paradise, i.e., financial oligarchy. More than it already is. Christie would have been an AWFUL president and the man should not hold any elected office. It's amusing he was out-bullied by Trump. Edit: @Dean I even liked your post and I am almost certain I encountered those videos here first. A friend shared it on Facebook today and I put it in here without thinking.
  3. Trump dubbed by Peter Serafinowicz in a posh British accent. Absolutely hilarious. Here's another:
  4. XCOM 2 on normal with some save scumming. Excellent goddamn game.

My god, is the geoscape strategy layer way more stressful than in EU. I love the pressure the Avatar project puts on you to stop faffing about and get serious about building up your region connections.
  6. Fuck yes, XCOM 2.

Is it as good as XCOM Declassified?

    XCOM 2

Just checked and my Australian VPN is ready to go. Looks like I'll have an evening of XCOM! Edit: Played waaaay too late into the night yesterday and I am loving it. The new combat and strategic map options make XCOM 2 quite a bit deeper than than the first. I also quite like the expanded enemy variety; it seems like there will be significantly more enemy types in XCOM 2 than there were in 1. I think a lot of folks will not be happy that a majority of the missions have turn limits, which really changes the pacing of combat encounters. I think it workes very well to make combat encounters both shorter and more intense. The Geoscape is very, very different this time around, since you fly your base around rather than dispatch aircraft. In fact, the whole UFO encounter and aircraft maintenance system has been scrapped, thank god. Once I'm further in, I'll have more thoughts on character progression and resource management. Also, for the record, I save scum like a motherfucker, although I try to contain it to reverting back to the start of a combat if I lost too many people or failed too many objective, rather than resetting after every missed shot or slain soldier.
  8. Generally the primary delegates to the national convention that pick the presidential nominees every four years set the national party platform for the next four years. But the RNC/DNC ultimately decide the party's stance on various issues, although state parties may differ on their focus and stance. Individual elected party members are also given leeway on how far to stray from party dogma so they don't piss off their constituents (like Dems out West being allowed to be pro-gun and Republicans in some areas being allowed to speak in favor of gay marriage). I get the sense the RNC is much more of an enforcer on specific policy positions than is the DNC.
  9. If there is a sitting President from a party, then s/he is kind of the de facto "party leader," although the actual business of running the party always falls to the chairmen (or chairwomen) of the Republican and Democratic National Committees, popularly called the DNC and RNC. The DNC is led by Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, who is currently a Representative to the House from curséd Florida. The RNC is chaired by the delightfully-named Reince Priebus (relevant: http://shortn.me/kEbm),who is just a conservative jerk and never has held elected office. The chairs are not always former or current elected officials.
  10. Clinton will win the Dem nomination. I do not want to contemplate a future in which whatever eldritch horror the GOP nominates wins in November.
  11. No kidding. Factionalism began immediately. It's true, Dean, we do have political dynasties and we need to do more to break up hereditary power structures. And we've had related presidents before, but not as intensely as we have since 1988.

    XCOM 2

I haven't done an EU or EW Iron Man run.... Not enough time now before XCOM 2, sadly. I think if you loved the first one, you should definitely read about the second. I'm sure a few of us on the forum will have more to say about it after release. Are you concerned about not understanding the story in XCOM 2 if you didn't complete XCOM 1? Because it seems that it should not matter one bit. In fact, as someone who has beaten XCOM: EW and EU, if you don't know how a successful run of the first game ends, you might be in for more surprises in XCOM 2, I'd guess. I mean, if you beat the XCOM 1 campaign(or at least play through a bit of the final mission), you get a little bit of insight into the aliens' goals and motivations (but not very much). If you go into XCOM 2 without that knowledge, their plan and goals are totally mysterious instead of mysterious in their specifics.
  13. "Caucus" is an old-timey word for "breakout session." Which is what the caucuses are; they're small groups of members of a large political party that decide which candidate their local precinct will support. They are very undemocratic, but not as undemocratic as having a Queen, hereditary titles, or the House of Lords. Fun fact: the primary/caucus system is independent of the formal legal election system in many ways (although it is regulated by state and federal law, and state governments generally assist in the party primary system). The Founders of the U.S. explicitly tried to discourage political parties and factionalism.

    XCOM 2

Everything I've heard and read tells me it will be better than the first. The reviews I've read confirm this. I'm just annoyed that I am traveling out of town this weekend to visit family. I wish I could just lock myself in my apartment and save the motherfucking world from psychic aliens! Ethan: Only something like eight months to go until the new GPUs are available! But doesn't XCOM2 have low requirements? Like a GTX 460 or something?

    XCOM 2

The reviews are pouring in and they seem universally good. Here's PC Gamer's: http://www.pcgamer.com/xcom-2-review/ I got my copy pre-ordered. Who's with me?
  16. XCOM 2, motherfuckers.

I guess the EGM reviewer is a little pansy who is not tough enough for a real game since he's allergic to losing and does not reflect upon why he's lost. Probably a PS4 and Wii U owner, given the whining.

Most likely an Uncharted fan, too. I'm assuming he wrote his review right after losing his entire squad to a dumbass tactical mistake.

  18. Yeah, I heard it was garbage, a lot like the X-Files movies and its final seasons.
  19. I've lost fingernails and toenails in accidents and even after the initial pain of losing a nail was gone, the tender tops of my fingers and toes would hurt whenever I accidentally knocked them into something even lightly. Maybe that pain goes away after a while, but it was a good couple months before my big toenail grew back to a point it wasn't unpleasant. Ultra runners are bizarre masochists, but the pain of a badly regrown toenail is 1000000000000000000000000x worse than the pain of having no toenail, so I guess I understand their choice to remove their nails. I mean, one of my big toenails grew back very, very badly after I lost it in a canoeing accident, and it was gross and excruciating until I had surgery to correct the issue.
  20. Would you like to swing on a star? Carry moonbeams home in a jar? And be better off than you are? Or would you rather be a mule?
  21. Ugh, now that EA has pulled out of E3 and is doing their own big independent marketing events beforehand, I'll have an extra few days of worthless sycophantic gaming news to ignore.

To be fair, about 365 days of the year are held over for largely worthless sycophancy masquerading as news.

      TheFlyingGerbil

I guess it's hard for a game publisher to compete against the platform holders for attention at e3 so it makes sense to do their own thing.

  22. No hair. Having no nails is more unsettling and painful.
  23. I'd rather have a low-paying job that is important and respected, but those are harder to get in the legal industry than well-paying jobs that are meaningless. Then again, my work is not meaningless to my clients, since they're either suing or being sued.
  24. Never played UC1, but Tomb Raider's combat is much more fun than UC2's or UC3's. Though all three games suffer from lackluster enemy variety.
