  1. Far Harbor. It was nice, but not as good as it could have been.
  2. Old people: fucking up democracy for the rest of us since ancient Greece.
  3. I think the idea behind these laws is to make sure that new substances are vetted before they are released to the public en masse. Yes, nicotine and alcohol are harmful, but we know what the harms are, generally. What's silly is when the harms are relatively mild but a substance still is not allowed to be sold, even in a regulated way that would minimize the risk. I'm talking about marijuana, people. Legalize it posthaste. ETA: I do not mean that we should legalize the weird synthetic marijuana that has prompted these laws.
  4. I'm just surprised you managed to get through it. Other folks have told me it's unwatchable unless you're a child.
  5. Yeah. In real world negotiations fucking around with ridiculous counteroffers will sometimes result in the original offer being pulled.
  6. Was the Asian girl played by Awkwafina? http://www.awkwafina.com/ She's a well-known outer borough comic rapper here in NYC. This video was her breakout: https://youtu.be/0-taYShNaPU Edit: that song will make no sense if you don't live in NYC.
  7. Whoa, FLD, that video is trippy only because it means there are three mouse pointers on my screen and I can only control one of them.
  8. The early reviews of the WoW movie do not bode well for it. But is anyone really surprised?

Really disappointed in it. Not sure why Duncan Jones was picked for it.

He's a good director. The WoW movie was always gonna be shit, though.

I never though it was going to be good, but I had hoped that it would be. It'd be nice to have another good fantasy movie out there.

  9. For buying a nice graphics card. Only you can tell if it was worth the money versus the 1070. Personally, I don't think the performance gains between the x70 and x80 models of nVidia cards are worth the price jump (generally a 60%-100% price jump for a performance gain of 20% or less). I ill probably wait for an 1170 to upgrade, since my 970 is still kicking ass at everything I throw at it in 1080p and I won't be getting a 4k TV any time soon.
  10. There are macros, too, but fuck if I know them. At an old job and in school, I had an EU (German) keyboard I'd plug into my computer if I was writing German or dealing with euros a lot because I didn't want to fuck around learning complex macros.
  11. Whoa, Total War: Warhammer runs on ultra on my laptop at 40 fps. Game is optimized, at least. Can't wait to sink my teeth into it after work and workout this evening. Think I'll go with a dwarf campaign.

  12. You made the right choice. I just pre ordered Total War: Warhammer on the strength of reviews and gameplay streams.
  13. Captain America: Civil War It's weird that this is a far better Avengers movie than Age of Ultron. I also find it fascinating how Tony Stark falls victim to his own paranoia/anxiety and has changed as a character since the heady Iron Man 2 days when we would tell the government to take a hike. Despite being a Disney joint, Civil War confronts its main protagonists' emotional damage head-on in a way that feel more honest than in any other superhero movie since the Raimi Spider-Man films. I mean, of course Ant-Man and *ahem* Spider-man's arcs are not as fleshed-out, but that's forgivable given the nature of comic book team-ups. Tom Holland was a really great Spider-Man and the Russos really nailed the snarky-yet-naive quips. But they did not feel like Stark quips or Lang quips, which is what I feared when I first learned all three MCU Earth-based quipsters would be in a fight scene together (I can only imagine the snark when Quill, Stark, Parker, and Lang all team up in one of the Infinity Wars). Stark and Parker's scene was fun, too. I like that the Parkers live in an apartment, which is more realistic than working class people living in a house in Queens these days. I also found it interesting that The Vision represented the philosophical ehart of the pro-Accords faction; Stark was just reacting according to his own emotional turmoil (he's a master at post-facto rationales rather than serious reflection), and Rhodes was just following his long-held principle of loyalty to his government (even that means loyalty to a supernational body's dictates). On the other hand, Captain's justification for not signing the Accords has little heft; we're told that maybe the UN wouldn't go after Zemo, but that's never established. In fact, if the UN were to forbid pursuit of Zemo, it would have been right; Zemo killed the evil super soldiers and only wanted to pit Stark and Rogers against each other. On the other hand, keeping Rogers' stance purely philosophical keeps the tension between the pro-Accord and anti-Accord factions alive. Cadwick Boseman is a fantastic Black Panther and I eagerly await his solo film.I liked his arc, too; overcoming the need for vengeance makes him a mature leader, buthaving known what it's like to seek vengeance makes him more human than, say, The Vision. I liked Black Widow and the Scarlet Witch, too, but I felt like both needed more time to shine (aside from in fight scenes). Black Widow was very Black Widow-y and Wanda did not have quite as much heft to her non-combat scenes, despite Olsen being as good an actor as anyone else in the movie. it's good to see her combat prowess grow, though, since I hear her character is (was?) one of the most powerful in the comic book continuity. I'd say this is the best of the MCU movies and it really makes me look forward to seeing the next few. PS: Dean from Community! The Staircar from Arrested Development! I like the Russo Bros Easter Eggs.
  14. Cons are very hard work and very taxing on stars, more so for old folks like anyone who was involved with the original Star Wars trilogy. I mean, I have a couple of friends in their 30's who do book signings and they're not at all famous and both are exhausted by meet-and-greet signings that only last an hour or so. I cannot imagine how tiring it is to act excited to energetically interact with high-energy fans of a role you did 40 years ago for hours on end. All of the actors in that set were gracious and the fan graciously accepted the actor's limitations on his suggestions. Fans are not entitled to anything more than that. I mean, not that fans should act like stars are doing them a huge personal favor by just showing up at cons, but it's reasonable to expect they won't want to play around with you for a photo when they have 700 more to pose for that day.
  15. Everyone ready for the glory of Total War: Warhammer?

I'm just not a Total War guy, and I'm disappointed they didn't call it "Total Warhammer"

It's reportedly the most accessible and streamlined TW, with several reviewers saying it's the best TW game yet.

But it should have been called Total Warhammer, you're absolutely right.

  16. Huh. Doom is actually a super-fun throwback shooter.

I'm noticing that some people are complaining about the story elements. There isn't a lot and they are short.

It has just enough story elements to tie it all together but not enough to bog it down. It structures the game, paces it and allows for a coherent sequel.

Yeah; the story and lore are just right for a Doom game. Kinda dumb, but in a fun way. I wonder how much more story/lore text is in Doom 2016 compared to Doom I and Doom II. I'd say at least 25 times as much.

    3. Pojodin

      Pojodin

I will have to check it out at some point.

  17. Ethan, that's like saying you like shit sundaes because you adore maraschino cherries.
  18. Everything they're saying makes me want to see it in action even more.
  19. Whoa, Civil War is worse than Thor: The Dark World? I guess I can wait until it hits video.
