  1. Killzone 1 was a failed "Halo Killer." Killzone 2 was actually great visually, gameplay, and for 80% of the narrative. Damn that Rico... Killzone 3 was a step backwards, but was still a great game. It's biggest flaw was the story going ass-up halfway through and leaving players dumbfounded at the end as the folly of the main characters goes planet-wide. Killzone: Shadow Fall had the burden of being a launch title. It's great to look at, but all the other aspects are lacking. Granted the story does have its moments especially at the end. The stealth unfortunately was very limiting for the level design. All the portable Killzone games... if you're a fan you'll like them. All the pre-game Killzone games I have no experience with and it looks like the standard fair of a videogame studio getting off the ground.
  2. Sure, but their games range from great to mediocre. They can make a beautiful game, but they're not always as good as you'd think they'd be.
  3. All I'm saying is if I have to play something new, I'm more comfortable in the hands of one of my favorites that is established and given a lot of care. I think if anyone is a fan of Zelda, you've come to expect more flora than fauna in the world. Hell if I can play Skyrim for 250 hours where most of the open world was traveling until you found a cave or settlement, I think I'll be fine. Not to mention, both Horizon and Breath of the Wild will be pretty to look at for one's playthrough. I'm one of those people that didn't mind the seafaring in Wind Waker, but you can see my thoughts here on Twilight Princess HD last year and how I found those fields to be less exciting (if not dead). As such I do think the "open world" aspect of Breath of the Wild could be a dividing point for fans just as it was for Wind Waker. Granted that was a giant sea whereas we have terrain and other landscapes to compare.
  4. Well I'm picking up Zelda over Horizon so it'll happen to some degree. Horizon is a new IP that looks pretty, but if I'm going to be doing multiple fetch quests and other open-world oriented tasks I've done before in previous games, I'd rather do it in Hyrule. Not to mention I have more faith in Zelda being more polished for what it wants to attempt versus, again, something entirely new. It isn't really bias if that's what you're thinking. I held off on RE7 because I was very cautious of the changes. Played it just tonight and love it, so I'm up for Horzion if it proves itself. And it goes down to $30.
  5. I guess I can see 400 armor being a bit much, but really, what made D.Va "unkillable" was having a good Ana. I could hold a line down for days if I had an Ana behind me while I alternated my Defense Matrix. I like the Recon changes to Bastion. I swear not many people realized how playable he was in that mode. The Sentry Mode stuff, not too sure about it.
  6. Last few games I played I was Roadhog. I got his Chinese New Year skin and his redesigned hook actually helps me aim better somehow. Like I know where it will hit and I'm getting crazy accurate with it.
  7. Man Tuesday can't come fast enough. I'm actually excited to get my hands on this game. Not an extra $12 excited, but I'm ready to be terrified and do multiple runs like I did in RE4. I swear I've gone through that game 18 times.
  8. Lately I've been worried. I mean, I really am concerned about the population of these United States. I don't align perfectly with either liberal or conservative, again I'm kinda stuck in the middle on your average day. After this election, I'm beginning to wonder if there's any difference. I'm reading comments and articles that I swear would be conservative nutjob rhetoric dressed with close-minded logic circa 2009. I'm seeing racism on both ends, ad hominems used as justification to attack one's neighbor and elitism layered with self-righteousness. When people began freaking the hell out after the results and claiming half of America was their enemy, I took it as hyperbole. Like, at the end of the day we have to view each other as human beings and see the world past a black-and-white, protag-antag worldview. Now I see an article about how Californians want to secede from the US? Remember how much shit Texans got a few years back and at least they have their own power grid to be a possible "nation." I feel depressed when I see people and friends I thought were level-headed begin going on a downward spiral of anger. It makes one blind to their actions and see how once they abhorred that behavior. Mocking someone's accent and country of origin. Do you want immigrants to feel welcome only if they rally with you? I don't think Trump is going to be the one to split America, I earnestly believe it's going to be the citizens. If you wake up and think you're going out into a battlefield, you might as well be romanticizing the spirit of the Civil War. Us vs Them, Etc.
  9. I too play it mostly for the three lootboxes per week. Though with the new event I did play a little more. Great content, but it's still luck-based if you get anything worthwhile. The patch did incorporate the changes that were in PTR, so that means D.Va is nerfed and it sucks. She is not durable and heaven forbid if you decide to panic call in your mecha with opponents around, that mecha is going to be near dead. She's my best character and now we're back to Square One where you have to play her more cautiously because you die so quickly. It's the main reason most people don't bother with Winston. He's not tanky enough to survive alone and his cooldowns prevent most players from being able to effectively escape bad situations.
  10. I held off because I was pessimistic this would be a good enough game. Not to mention it's the closest thing we'll get to a Silent Hills game. Reviews and some of the footage I've seen lead me to believe I'll enjoy it. Got the Amazon Prime discount, but it seems I ordered a little late as Amazon sold out this evening. No big deal as I'll get it Tuesday. I've got some things to finish up.
  11. I meant to say this earlier, but I went to see La La Land. It's definitely worthy of Golden Globes, whatever ones it won anyway. It's a very good musical and romance
  12. That final page of Dr. McNinja. :'(

Well sounds like you've got some required reading over the weekend.

  13. I wouldn't be able to get away with calling Rebels "kiddy." I get what people mean by it, but that's like The Force Awakens. One moment our protagonists are joking with each other, the next people are straight up dying in the thousands. That's what has kinda bugged me about Rebels. It's lighthearted, but sometimes it's jarring how cheery the protagonists can be compared to protagonists of mature-rated media where the reaction is normally straight-faced. Last episode the rebels redirected a droid with a proton warhead back to a Star Destroyer. We get to see two Imperial techs essentially witness the last three seconds of their life and then it transitions to the Star Destroyer being blown in half. Mind you this wasn't during a battle, this was just normal routine for these crew members. Next scene, "Hey that was a good idea. Keep up the good work." I mean, it was but don't be so damn happy about it. As for The Clone Wars and why I bothered making beef with everyone who hasn't seen it. One of my pet peeves is "Going Green Eggs and Ham." Practically badgering someone to try something good, but they constantly refuse because of weak justification. I don't like to because, hey, everyone is entitled to an opinion and we all come to expect different reactions and outcomes from different content. In example, someone doesn't want to watch the Daredevil Netflix series because "Daredevil sucks" based on the atrocious film many years ago. "But it's still Daredevil, and he sucks." It's not the same actor, not the same writers, not even the same studio, but "it sucks." Arguing that a character as a whole is terrible gets you into sticky situations. You then get into scenarios where you have to factor in practically all of their appearances. If someone told me Batman is a terrible superhero, I damn as sure want to know why. "Well, I mean, did you see Batman & Robin?" Oh yeah, that film sucked. "Well, there you go!" Yeah, but have you seen Batman Begins or Dark Knight? "Uh, why would I? Batman is terrible and I don't want to waste my time." Now TV series are even trickier. They do require more of a commitment. I feel that many people have come to accept that if someone has seen a season or two and didn't like it, that's fair. There could be better seasons later, but the damage is done and there's no way of truly trying to convince someone to stick around. I would just make a point that one could not speak on the entire quality of the series because that is not in their experience. They have the right to say they didn't like it, what they saw was terrible, and they're fully justified in their inclination to not watch anymore. It's what happened with The Legend of Korra and its shockingly subpar Book 2. I stopped watching Adventure Time partway into Season 6 because it no longer interested in me and felt the last episodes I watched had no significance and the series was turning into a proverbial carrot-on-a-stick. I don't say the entire show sucks however because I know there's more content that I haven't bothered to watch (and I do like the first half). I've caught a few newer episodes here and there, but it's no longer for me. I still listen to friends who watch it and I've bothered to see some of their recommendations. While they were good, it still felt I was dumpster diving for the bits I would be interested in. They can respect that because they too recognize the show has become very polarized and half the charm isn't quite there. How does this all relate back to The Clone Wars? Well, again, I can't see an opinion being valid for an entire series based on a small percentage of experience. It would be like telling our dear Cowboy Poet that I don't like the Uncharted series because Uncharted 1 was mediocre. Flabbergasted, he would question me about 2-4 while secretly searching for a knife. "Oh, didn't play them because Uncharted is mediocre at best." But you know, whatever. I truly don't expect anyone to go through five seasons to rid the taste of Season 1 (most everyone agrees Season 1 is bad). For me, The Clone Wars is what made me still a fan of Star Wars after the Prequel Trilogy. It took the framework of setting and characters and made them 100 times better. Rather than Anakin being a one dimensional twat, he actually has a character in The Clone Wars. Obi-wan actually gets to do some exciting things rather than being the Jedi Council errand boy (and Anakin's babysitter). The Clone Troopers have character instead of voice lines! Sometimes I just wanted to watch Rex, Cody, or Fives instead of some Jedi Council member. Even the Clones who die off after two episodes build upon the world and affect our main characters. Posted below is a video that, while I'm not a fan of YouTube mannerisms, lists a general idea why fans both pre-Disney and post-Disney enjoy and recommend the series. However, I've timestamped the video at the segment where it lists some of the excellent series arcs that build upon all of Star Wars. There are other excellent arcs, but if you only had a few hours, these would be worth your time. EDIT: Eh, media tag doesn't like timestamps? I dunno, maybe mods can fix it, but just copy-paste. And have at it. This will mark the second time this forum has discussed The Clone Wars and I don't really expect much to happen because this is essentially deja vu from last time. We're all set in our ways of what we want from movies, games, and books. Hell, I'm not even a big fan of Darth Maul, I'm a Vader kinda guy. Half of that comes from the games and comic books he has been featured in versus just the films. It's the same for fans of Boba Fett. They don't like him only because of the films, because frankly he has little character in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi combined. It's all the other media he has appeared in that make people fans of him. I understand it though because Qui-Gon Jinn is the same way for me. Little justification to be a fan of his in Phantom Menace, but his influence in The Clone Wars and print media do make him the wise, multi-layered, and a powerful sage like what was intended. P.S. Dual-bladed lightsabers turning into helicopters is embarrassing and I don't blame anyone for thinking little of Rebels because of it. If they were used to slow one's descent, cool. Actually flying though is ridiculous and whoever brainstormed that idea should be ashamed.
  14. I still stand by the actual event being alright, doing its job and not being a technical failure (that translator though). It's everything after the event that drags it all in the mud. I understand why the pair of Joy-Con controllers are $80; essentially two Wiimotes (one being $40) bundled together. It's not an enticing price and they'd be better off meeting the status quo of $60. Games like Arms shouldn't be near full price. Hell, a lot of people thought 1-2 Switch was going to be the Switch's version of Wii Sports. Not many people bought Nintendo Land for Wii U and a portion of those who own it got it through some promo. And the over reliance of users having to use their smartphone for online features. It was introduced as a nice option, like what you can do with PlayStation, but it shouldn't be a damn near necessity. What about the kids who don't have a smartphone yet because their parents don't feel children can be responsible enough to manage one? "Mom, I want to talk to my friends in Mario Kart. Where's your phone?" At that point I'd have them use the tablet mode and use the family computer with Discord. Even that's not a perfect solution because no child of mine would bogart the shared computer.
  15. I don't do it often, but I got the Platinum for Doom. It helps that they didn't make ridiculous grinds for trophies. Even the two multiplayer trophies took 40 minutes max.

I've never managed a single Platinum. Closest I got was BF1943, but couldn't figure the parachuting thing out.

You only need to do the first level "The UAC" on Nightmare to get the trophy. There's no way in hell I would go through trying to do the whole game on that mode. It took me an hour for such a relatively short level.

      Mister Jack

Oh, really? I did not realize that. If I cared about steam achievements at all I'd probably try to get those last few, but they just don't appeal to me like a shiny platinum does for some reason.

  16. I dunno, just voice acting is always very dramatic. Maybe people are confusing it for Zelda being helpless, but frankly a lot of Japanese media takes emotion up to 11. Screaming, crying, laughing, whatever else. I just want to be Linku and fight with Zeldaru!
  17. Even though one of the supporting characters came directly from The Clone Wars? And the Rebels influences too, but I can leave those a mystery if it would ruin your perception of the film. There are quite a number of them. I'm just saying guys, no one can forever ignore the content outside of the films. That content begins to shape the films and content we're going to be seeing heading forward. Even before Disney, Lucas himself did incorporate elements of Legends into the Episodes too. Take the Outrider, Dash Rendar's ship from Shadows of the Empire. With the Special Edition, that ship was added to A New Hope seen flying over Mos Eisley. The real kicker? When Disney acquired Star Wars, they couldn't just deny a ship that's present in A New Hope now. So the Outrider is canon, but Dash Rendar himself is still non-canon. That's right, in Star Wars we have a ship with no pilot!
  18. Man, everyone here lumping Rebels and anything post-Disney acquisition into the EU/Legends would get torn apart from the rapid fanbase that hates anything Stars Wars with the Disney logo in it. Like, there is a fanbase that grew up on Legends stories and will defend it like holy scripture (tacky as half of it may be). EU/Legends is very distinctively different in Star Wars. It's not the difference between grey and gray, it's almost like comparing the sky to the sea. It's not up to personal interpretation of the usage of "EU" to describe anything outside of the films. Not to mention, if you only count films, you have to lump in the god awful The Clone Wars film. It was in theaters, so I guess you have to filter it even further with live action films. EDIT: Now granted the film Rogue One and the series Rebels would normally be "extended universe," it just unfortunately has to contend with the decades of content that was generated before Disney. That's mainly why you'll see "Legends" used now, but be aware that there was a library of once canonical media that practically built Star Wars behind the silver screen.
  19. I mean, again, I didn't have any expectations besides numbers and dates. I didn't think this would be anything like an E3 presentation where companies enter a passive-aggressive gladiatorial arena using the art of showmanship. Nintendo has retreated from those battles long ago and I didn't see the January event being something to bring nostalgia to our hearts. I will say the only consolation to their online is it will be free until Fall 2017. This will give early adopters enough time to inform all of us with reservations of their online experience. The truth of the matter is that I don't expect anything online from Nintendo. It's sad and I really would love a damn online account so if anyone actually uses the Virtual Console (bless their soul), they have actually purchased that game and will have it on record. One would hope we've seen the last of using physical media for digital content transfers. The thing is, for everyone griping here and online, I see just as many people okay with the presentation online. The Switch unfortunately has reached its polarizing point where the consumer must decide to jump in or stay out. Granted, I think its because if one can find a few things they can derive enjoyment from, i.e. no Region Locking; 8 Player Local, and [insert sequel] to name a few, they've got their justification. I waited on the Wii U, so I can wait on the Switch. Buying a new console will always be more expensive than older consoles that have had to make considerations in the last few years for consumer adoption. Also, I feel like more than half the reason online is going to be paid is that Nintendo is already taking loses elsewhere and since it's now nearly a staple of the current console market, they feel they can get away with it. Time will tell.
  20. Just to be clear, I'm holding off too (money and caution), but I didn't really expect some orgasmic experience from this. (Dat BotW trailer tho.) It was like a live reading of the articles I'm sure everyone is read right now.
  21. Disaster? It wasn't some super-techy spectacle, but it did its job. I'm not really interested in those little Switch games, but people were crazy for Wii Bowling, so it's harmless to me and there's a market for them. We saw decent third party support and specifications of what exactly you're getting yourself into. I'm glad they focused as much as they did on those Joy-Con controllers because I was really skeptical of how they would perform. Granted I'll still have to hold one, but it shows R&D put thought into those little things. The only thing that was terrible was the overuse of "Switch" and the one translator who sounded like he was at gunpoint. And Beyond Good & Evil 2? Like, you thought that would be here? Genuinely? Not under some kind of high? Just, some Ubi rep is going to be on stage and he'll pull a Blu-ray out of his pants with the number "2" on it. A playful wink and we all know in our soul it's still alive.
  22. Zelda at launch, March 3rd! That trailer was fantastic. Seems people got their wish for voice acting. (On a side note, I joked about EA talking about FIFA and Madden. Turns out I was half right!)
  23. He's a better villain in Clone Wars and Rebels; night-and-day compared to his near non-existent character in Phantom Menace. One can try to refute this, but it would require one to have seen more episodes than can be counted on a single hand. P.S. The Sith since the EU have thrived on insane plot armor to stay alive. There are many examples where just having a strong connection to the Force and hatred on someone or something as an anchor point keep them from dying. It's representative of the duality of Jedi and Sith. The Sith seek immortality through power and can live physically through sacrifice of their very person, almost defeating the entire purpose. The Jedi do achieve immortality if they can achieve a higher understanding of the Force and themselves.
  24. I finished DOOM (2016) a few days ago. Definitely an excellent game, though a few Glory Kills did glitched me into an object. Nothing a Checkpoint couldn't solve and it was very rare. It's almost surreal to have a realistic and gory game be lined with classic game drops. Like imagine The Last of Us, but your resources glow and float around the environment. I'm not saying this like a negative, it's just a surreal experience for modern day gaming. It's both nostalgic and played real well in the game.
  25. I'm not sure where I would put this in comparison to the Force Awakens. So in short, K2SO for Best Droid! If I had to make a ranking: Empire, New Hope, Force Awakens, Rogue One, Jedi, Sith, Phantom, Clones Maybe if I watch Rogue One once more, it could be in my Top 3. When I was watching the OT and Prequels this month on TV, I changed my stance on where Phantom and Clones belong in my ranking. Even with Jar Jar and Young Anakin, I much rather watch Darth Maul and Pod Racing over the garbage in Attack of the Clones. The sand is far too coarse and gets everywhere.
