Yeah, that might be the case. We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

But that doesn't work with the ones that aren't solid objects but are instead loose collections of gravel-like material.

Okay, I just went and tested it with PixelJunk Shooter, and there was only the slightest bit of input latency, and at least at the beginning it was entirely playable. The latency I experienced before must have been due to the game I was playing (SotC HD). Since the selection of games that it works with is so limited I just assumed it was a limitation on the system's part because I hadn't been able to test it with anything else. It was running at a fairly low framerate, but I'm not sure which end that was on.

It's obvious from context that I meant a dedicated wifi connection between the console and the handheld/tablet, a la Wii U. The Vita does not connect directly to the PS3, it connects to my home network, which the PS3 is also connected to, and uses that to get the signal through.
-
That's what I thought, but I just looked it up and it uses 802.11n. It also has NFC and infrared, but that's not how it's talking to the console. *Edit* - Here's a less Wikipedia-y source. *Edit 2* - Wait, I'm retarded, the "n" probably explains why it works better, my home network is g.

Right, but blowing it up is not always the best plan, that's just movies. More realistic for a big one would be to nudge it into a different orbit, but that would require a lot of time.
-
Well if the always-online rumors about the 720 prove true then at least on that platform it won't hinder this game especially (I know it's only been announced for PS360, but I'm going to assume it'll be one of those console-generation-straddling games).

What bait-and-switch thing?
-
Right, pushing themselves and only themselves. No more would be riding on say Mario Kart than just the success of Mario Kart, whereas now how good each game is affects the success of the entire platform.

Huh, I didn't realize the Gamepad used wifi. Maybe the input latency on the Vita is being introduced somewhere in my home network then, since I've got it on the Vita but not the Gamepad (while still wifi it is at least connecting directly to the Wii U rather than using my network). Even if that's the case, it could easily be solved by putting a special "video out" wifi connection on the PS4 for the Vita to connect to directly. Yes, if they enabled remote-play at a system level that would be great, but atm with the Vita you can only do remote play if the specific game has enabled it and not a lot of them have.

Okay, but even if you have a plan for how to deal with it, that shit hasn't been built yet. And building it takes time. Time we may or may not have depending on how long from impact the thing is when we find it.
-
But without the need for their titles to drive system sales I could see the resources invested coming down and the quality also dropping.
-
Except 2 things: 1) Too much input lag on the Vita (at least the way they have it set up on the PS3). 2) Hardly any games use it, and that won't change unless one is included with every console sold.
-
The big ones are kind of tracked, but more could certainly be done to locate the ones we don't know about yet. As far as stuff in place to deal with one that was going to impact, no, there's absolutely nothing at all. There's lots of theoretical discussion of what we could do, but none of it's ever been designed, built, or tested, it's all high-level theoretical stuff.

Well, presumably the idea is it's impossible to escape.

Wait you figured the pad in the middle, that's like an inch big, was going to be a screen like the Wii U? The Wii U gamepad is like 6", 1" is piddly size for a controller. What the touchpad does tell us is that PS Vita however is likely to fill in as a possible second controller like it can do for PS3 (since you'll have a touchpad on both). No, I never thought anything of the sort. Hence my "if that's accurate, and they don't have a screen..." comment. Prior to the photo leaking, I was hoping they'd do something like the Wii U's tablet, because that thing is fantastic.

Maybe Nintendo WILL go the way of Sega... Part of me hopes that happens, so I don't have to buy Nintendo hardware for Nintendo games in the future, but another part of me is afraid their games would suffer in quality if that happened.
-
Oh yeah, we're nowhere near being able to deal with stuff this small, but I was thinking maybe it will wake people up to the idea that asteroid impacts can actually happen. *Edit* - And work on developing systems to better track (I know we do a little of that now) and deal with the big ones.

Not really politics, but close enough: Meteor strike in Russia injures several hundred people. Here's a video. That Boston Globe article is the best one I found. In various articles I've read estimates of the injuries ranging from 250 to 900 people. So far no reports of any fatalities. I wonder if this will spark discussion about the need to develop some kind of system to protect us from these things.

If that's accurate, and they don't have a screen like the Wii U, my interest just dropped somewhat. That off-screen play is fantastic, and I'd really hoped that at least one of Sony and Microsoft would copy it. The ridge around the thumbsticks looks nice, that's my main complaint with the DS3: that my thumbs slide off. I wonder if they'll also fix the fact that the tension is WAY too low on the DS3's sticks, and the deadzone is way too big. As far as the size of the controller, it doesn't matter much to me. Both the 360 controller and the DS3 are comfortable to hold, so whatever.

Just get the gun too, you'll be fine.

Why is the Internet so expensive if you can't stream or download anything? That's what's killing me. *Edit* - Alright, even though I think the Internet is too expensive in comparison to the other things, here's mine: Cut the money in half, get hygiene, microwave, movies, games, PC, internet.

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale

"Bought" them even though I don't have the game. Cause that's how I roll. -
That's quite the man-cleavage he has in that third picture.
