@Atom: I agree with most of what you said. The only reason I think it should matter at all is that the President is going to have to interact with other nations and if those other nations all hate him that will harm America in trying to deal with them.

Because of this: I don't even necessarily plan to play it any time soon, if at all, but I want to support that kind of attitude. Fight piracy by making people actually want to buy your game and support you rather than by treating your customers like thieves.

To be fair, going to "start" to "shut down" is counter-intuitive, though it's a lot simpler than the Win8 method. And while I know that brightness was just an example, I'll say that I have no idea how to adjust brightness on Win7, or WinXP, or any previous windows with or without a hotkey, but it's never been an issue before. Shutdown is something I use daily.

I'd have to see the original order to express an opinion on whether they're in contempt or not. The fact that they're basically saying "yeah, the UK said this, but other courts agreed with us so the UK court is wrong" seems like it could potentially be in violation of the order though.

No, they were actually granted the patents, because the USPTO basically just grants every patent that is submitted until someone challenges it. If the invalidation holds up though then Samsung will likely win their appeal of the court case. Also, I find it hilarious that the UK court said the Samsung stuff didn't infringe because it wasn't as cool as the Apple stuff.

Yes, but many Christians can't understand that there are people who honestly don't believe that the Christian God exists, and so if you are speaking out against Christianity then you must be in league with Satan. That's why they also will say that atheists love Satan or hate God. When they hear someone say "I don't believe in God" they think they're using believe similarly to when someone says "I don't believe in abortion," ie that it's a bad thing, not that it actually does not exist.

Some of the stuff, like the Metro tiles, seems like the kind of thing that would be great on a tablet or other touchscreen device but seem just weird to put on a desktop. Like trying to drive a car with the control system from a motorcycle. Sure you can do it, but why would you?

Yeah, I leave my computer off all night and every day I'm at work. No point in having it use power while I'm not using it. But I don't want to set an auto-shutoff time for the same reason: sometimes I have it doing things while I'm off doing something else, and I want it to keep doing them.

Turn on computer. Log in. Click on "Desktop" or just hit the windows key. WINDOWS 8 IS SO FUCKING COMPLICATED HOLY SHIT He didn't say it was complicated, just that it was stupid. And it is stupid that you can't set the OS to boot to desktop automatically.

But that's what I'm saying, if you just do a short push of the button it's a software shutdown, even though you used hardware to initiate it. That's why you can go into Windows options and change what that button does. It's the long-push that's a hardware shutdown. So Windows 8 using the short push isn't using hardware shutdown.
