I do agree that we could do with more good 3D platformers. I can't even think of any that aren't called Mario since... ever? Ratchet and Clank never clicked with me.

I played as a girl in Saints Row: The Third, and you know what seemed weird about it? Absolutely nothing. Granted, Saints Row is not anywhere close to realistic in any way, but you keep talking about physical differences between men and women that would make ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE in the gameplay. They could have had a woman protagonist that was just a different character model but that otherwise played exactly the same as the men and it would not have been weird at all. The idea that it would be unworkable is frankly quite sexist. If they want to say "we didn't want to have a woman for creative reasons" then that's fine and that's their prerogative, but there's no objective reason why they shouldn't have a woman.

I think Memorial Day is specifically about soldiers who have died, whereas Veteran's Day is about all veterans, whether they died or not.

I've seen people genuinely bragging about this before. It just means they have more patience for trying and retrying checkpoints.

I actually died less on Legendary than I did on Heroic. It's not about patience to retry checkpoints (though there is some of that) so much as it is patience to be methodical and smart about how you approach situations, rather than just running in guns blazing.

Yeah, GTA games may be striving for realism in terms of situations, but Niko Bellic was a fucking one man army and you can't say that the gameplay is realistic in the slightest, so saying "the woman would have to be weaker to be realistic" is just a ridiculous argument. Besides, the whole "women are slower/weaker than men" thing works when you're talking about averages, but not individuals. Sure, I'm stronger than most women and could beat the crap out of them in a fight, but there are certainly many out there that I could beat the crap out of me. Ergo you could have a woman be just as capable as the men, and if you need to explain it at all (which I don't think you do) the explanation is "she's unusually strong for a woman". It wouldn't be some gaping plot hole.

I feel the same way about female protagonists (and games not being in America) as I do about gay characters in games: sure, overall I'd like to see more of it, but each game is unique and I can't really criticize any specific one for not doing it (barring something really extreme like replacing Samus with a man).

I've seen several petitions recently of people asking banks to stop trying to collect student loans from the parents (who cosigned the loan) of the student after the student has died. Like, I get that that's a terrible thing to happen to a parent, losing their child, but what did you think the point of cosigning a loan was? It's so that if the principal person can't pay it back then they collect from the cosigner. It sucks for you, but that's what you agreed to.

Epic's judgment against Silicon Knights is upped to $9M, and SK is ordered to destroy all unsold copies of all games developed using Epic's code, as well as destroy any code built using Epic's property, including the code for those games. I think the only thing that can be said is "Holy shit."

I don't know about over there, but over here the stereotypical pedophile is a man who preys on young boys, and (again, over here) a lot of people have this idea that all gay men are pedophiles. So that might be where the gay comment came from. *Edit* - I think it's because the people who think that think of being gay as an immoral sexual perversion, and so I guess they figure if you like one immoral sexual perversion you must like them all, or something.

I would have been disappointed if Obama had lost, but I would not have thought it was the end of the world. If anything I probably would have had a sentiment similar to the one reasonable person on that site who said something like "Just 4 more years, we can get through this."

I would buy that in a heartbeat. Maybe they'll make a multiplayer DLC centered around the ship combat? I know that's probably too much to hope for, but it would be amazing.

I have a smart TV with a Netflix app, but I still use my PS3 for Netflix for 2 reasons: one, it's WAY more useable. The design is very similar but the TV is just a teensy bit too slow to run it well, so browsing/searching/etc is a pain on the TV. Two, PS3 is the only device I have that will play Netflix with 5.1 audio for some reason (as far as I can find only PS3 and Roku even support 5.1 on Netflix). I also know this is completely tangential to your point.
