Trolling for the most part about 50/50. I don't like movies like Juno and Win/Win. I don't like this new movement of 'quirky' film, a movement this, judging from the trailer, seems to belong to. Again, I didn't call Gordon-Levitt an obscure actor as you seem to think I did, if you properly read my post you would see I said I believed the movie would succeed because of him. I called it a hipster movie only because it has Gordon-Levitt, has a 'quirky' aesthetic and all the hipsters I know thoroughly enjoy both those things.
I was NOT trolling, however, about Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
I love Planet of the Apes, and I hate the Tim Burton one.
I truly think Rise of the Planet of the Apes looks like an excellent, high quality film. I don't think the CGI looks bad at all, and as I stated before, I have a thing for Smart Apes. My favorite comic book character is Gorilla Grodd. Peter Jackson's King Kong is one of my favorite movies of all time. I think the plot looks very cool, and I can totally relate to Caesar and his situation of rejection because he's not 'human'. I've been in several situations in the past that are similar. People can relate to things that you can't relate to. That is a thing that happens. As for the cast, I respect James Franco as an actor, John Lithgow is an incredible actor, Freida Pinto is pretty and not an awful actress by any means, and Andy Serkis has an excellent track record. Also, just because bad movies can have high production values doesn't mean that production values mean 'shit all' for the movie. They can add a layer of polish that is very difficult to achieve without them. Also, a film like Rise of the Planet of the Apes hasn't been done before, at least not any film I've seen, so your 'lack of creativity' argument goes right out the window. Also, I enjoyed the Hangover 2. It made me laugh and I wasn't bored, and to me, that makes a decent movie.
People have different opinions than you, WP, myself being one of them. I most certainly don't appreciate the tone of your post, and I certainly don't appreciate your treating me as if I know nothing of the medium:
You've entirely discounted my opinion and simply substituted yours, only in a tone far ruder than the one I used.
I will state this: I much prefer the mainstream studio film industry to the independent one. By far.
In the past few months alone I've seen many movies I've enjoyed and many I haven't. The ones I've enjoyed have been exclusively studio films, with the exception of 'Super'. This is an opinion.
I will clarify that I was trolling for a small segment of my post. I also apologize if my post came off as rude. That was not my intent.
TL;DR: I love smart apes, that's my opinion, get mad if you want, don't be a douche about it, I'm sorry for trolling and if I came off as rude. I also much prefer studio films to independent films.
