  1. I'll back that up. Those builds won't make you any better at 1v1. I think it's debatable for 2v2 and up though; but those aren't really all that serious.
  2. Don't let anybody tell you cheesing is anything but hilarious and effective at all levels. MVP cheesed something like 70% of his games in one GSL and is often called one of the best macro Terrans there is. Also, cheesing is pretty much the only thing you see in high ranked multiplayer games (2v2 and up). That said... Terran 6-Rax All-in 10 - depot 12 - barracks depot when barracks is done 16 - orbital command; stop building scvs, queue up 4 marines in barracks, drop mules as often as possible @750 minerals - build 5 more barracks queue up 3 depots with one scv while barracks are building push out at exactly 6 minutes. You should have 12 marines. Rally your barracks to one of the marines. Continue mule dropping and supply depot building, but this attack should do enough damage to end the game. Two-Rax Reaper (aka 8/8/8 Reaper) (HotS only) 8 - depot, cut scv production, send out an scv to proxy 8 - when depot is done drop a proxy barracks immediately, then a gas. Put 3 guys on gas as soon as it finishes. When barracks is done, build another one and start your first reaper. Rally both barracks directly into the opponents base. Start building SCVs again but only when you have extra minerals; prioritize reapers. Whether or not this build works depends entirely on how well you control your reapers. Target fire units first, then SCVs, and pull weak reapers back to heal. I think this is one of the funnest builds to both do and defend against right now. Zerg 7 pool Fun fact: the timing on a 7 pool is about the same as the timing on a 6 pool but you get a queen earlier and have an extra drone. 6 - drone 7 - pool 6 - drone 7 - drone 8 - overlord rally your hatch to the enemy base and make 6 lings as soon as your spawning pool finishes. Bring a drone with the attack if you're playing against a zerg and build a spine crawler on their creep. Continue spamming lings with every larvae @150 minerals - queen (spam larvae) Keep an eye on your supply, you'll need an overlord soon after the queen When you've decided your attack has succeeded/failed, go back to building drones. Baneling Bust (ZvT build) 13 - gas 13 - pool when pool is done, build a baneling nest immediately and start spamming lings. Queen @ 150 minerals Keep your lings at the enemies natural expansion. Morph 6 of them into banelings as soon as you can. When banelings are done, target a supply depot on the terran wall with them. When the supply depot goes down run your zerglings in, kill any marines he might have, and wreck havoc on the mineral line. 1-Base Roach Rush 14 - pool 14 - gas Roach warren when pool is done, queen. ~18-20 - build 2-3 overlords (roaches take up lots of supply) Spam roaches when warren finishes and attack when you think you have enough of them (7-`12 should work). 12-drone rush (this absolutely totally works; i've done it quite a few times) Once you have 10 drones and about 100 minerals, build 2 geysers, spawn two more drones, and then cancel the geysers. This should leave you at 12/10 supply. When you have 150 minerals, send all your drones to attack, and build 1 overlord behind it. Get a drone when the overlord finishes. Attack the opponents workers and don't let them build stuff. All your opponent has to do is select all their workers and a-move them into yours. 99% of people WILL NOT do this. They will panic and try to micro and fail hard. Some guy on TeamLiquid got into platinum league doing this. Protoss I'm actually terrible with protoss, so I can't help you much here. I'm sure you can find the 4-gate or cannon rush build online. Oracle rush - Pylon - Gateway - Cybercore - Stargate - Oracle. Send the oracle to the opponents mineral line and attack the workers. Some people say this isn't cheese. We call them high diamond league Protoss players..
  3. I didn't wanna have to do this to you Dean... Fuck it, I'm citing the wiki! http://bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/Rapture#Relation_to_Bioshock:_Infinite (massive spoilers, obviously) I honestly think it would be a much bigger plothole if they solely included that scene as fan service. I thought the relation would be pretty obvious to people.
  4. Presidents of the United States of America made two of the first three CDs I've ever owned (the other one was some compilation of pop hits). They're great. <3 Yelle. NSFW if your boss speaks french, otherwise rock on.
  5. Youtube personality TotalBiscuit is doing a 3 part series on this, if anyone is interested. First part went up this morning. Haven't checked it out yet as it seems a bit long winded;
  6. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/18833/ Grand Theft Auto Collection; my all time most favourite franchise, $12.50 this weekend on Steam. That's actually not even a huge deal compared to the normal price but I don't think I'm the only one who hadn't realized how much they've come down in price; and I'm always surprised at how many people didn't bother with Episodes from Liberty City. Lost and the Damned probably has the best story of any GTA game and Ballad of Gay Tony has some of the most entertaining missions and weapons.
  7. Might want to get started on StarCraft II, then. Entire SC1 and Broodwar campaigns ported to SC2; http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/sc1-episode-1-rebel-yell/ Also; some stuff I beat this year (cause I can't sleep); Bleed - Excellent. Dying to 1cc it. Also; please greenlight - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=92919970 Heart of the Swarm - Interesting single player, massively improved multiplayer. Bientot L'Ete - Brilliant. I played like 20 minutes and I haven't been able to get it out of my head. Far Cry 3 - Trash. XCOM - Awesome. And it taught me how to play X-Com. X-COM - Holy shit why did I wait so long to play this. I bought it years ago when the collection was on sale for a couple bucks and could never figure out how to play. Now that I know it's insanely rewarding. Saints Row 3 - Took me long enough to catch up with that bandwagon. It was pretty good. Antichamber - Drugs. FTL - Pretty good. Wouldn't have minded a longer, less random game mode that allowed for more optimization and experimentation in a single playthrough though. Dungeonland - Great with 4 people; pretty weak otherwise. Game Dev Story - So you're telling me I have the potential to run a multi-trillion dollar game studio with millions of fans despite the fact that I release nothing but porn parodies with mini-skirt and swimsuit themes? I'm going to play you A LOT. Bioshock Infinite - Didn't like it.
  8. In response to Deans response to the ending;
  9. I went through this thread a bit more and realized that nobody gave a good explanation for the ending yet; so here goes (Contains spoilers for Bioshock 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7...)...
  10. Why are people having trouble with patriots? You can just melee them to death once you take down the guys around them. Just finished it on hard. Was pretty disappointing; moreso than Bioshock 2. The shields and 2-weapon limit totally ruined it. The best part about Bioshock was all the crazy combinations you could pull off with weapons/spells/environmental stuff. The weapons are dull in this one; it's just the usual shotguns/rifles/explosives weapon selection every other FPS on the planet has, with the generic capacity/accuracy/damage upgrades. Where the hell is my electric buckshot? My Liquid Nitrogen launcher? My friggin trap bolts of all things! The spells aren't nearly as interesting either; serving mostly to stun enemies or decrease the distance between you and them so you can get a melee attack in; but they don't really combine with specific ammo types or environmental effects (if you can call them that anymore; most of them need to be summoned) the way they did in Bioshock 1 and 2. Along with the shield system this quickly turns it into a typical cover shooter. It got me to build my character around melee combat; which was kind of interesting until that damn graveyard fight; though in all honesty I think having a melee character is the most efficient way to play. One thing that I loved was the sound. I rarely ever even notice when a game has good sound or not, but Bioshock and Bioshock infinite would be the exception to that rule (Bioshock 2 gets left out for having the most annoying footsteps sound effects in history). Beyond just having amazing cues to help exploration, the real treat was the anachronistic songs. It's really amazing how they took the Beach Boys "God Only Knows" and made it their own; not only in the presentation of it as a 1913 barbershop quartet but also in the way that the otherwise mundane pop lyrics become an analogy for the entire story. I won't be able to hear that song the same way again. One more thing... Dear, Elizabeth:
  11. Yeah it was kind of inevitable. Near the end I was really only watching over the monetary side of things anyway. Donations started slowing down and I was pretty broke myself. I heard most people who were still playing all joined another server together and since population was dying down it was probably for the best. I never did give enough thanks to those that helped out with it though; whether they were a player, moderator or donator. And a special thanks to evemarie for taking over server duties entirely in the last few months. I've had more free time on my hands lately and have been using some of it to lurk here, but I've been hesitant to post lately because most of what I have to say about games these days has pretty much already been ridiculed... I think what made me pop my head in was seeing that a lot of people seem to be enjoying Heart of the Swarm and I don't nearly have enough people to play with; so I was hoping to get in on some of that. NeoStarr.919. I'll probably go visit that thread too in a couple more games.
  12. I still lurk here. I <3 u guys.

    Mice

    I just got a new mouse so I thought I'd revive the thread. Went for a Steelseries Ikari Laser because my old G9 crapped out. Problem is I have to return it because it maxes out at 3200 DPI. On my G9, my 2 most commonly used settings were 2700 for browsing and 3800 for gaming (that's with windows sensitivity settings maxed and I typically set Source games to 14 sensitivity). I didn't realize I had it so high until I looked up the settings and tried to carry them over to this mouse. It's unfortunately a lot slower than I'd like. I'm looking for any recommendations; I need something with at least 2 dpi settings that goes above 3800dpi. Wired, in that fat bottom style that makes claw grip feel nice. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about just grabbing another G9. As much as I love Logitech mice though, they seem to have a lifespan, so I thought I'd ask first. So far I've thought about the Razer Imperator or the SS Xai but both of those look like the plain old thin, straight mice and my hands can never get used to that. Also, is this sensitivity abnormally high? What do you guys typically use?
  15. That's all too perfect. I feel the exact same way about both films. Although my problem with inception was more that they set up a really good platform to talk about the consequences and effects of thought control, but instead it turned into "HIS PROJECTIONS HAVE BEEN MILITARIZED!".
  16. After your first playthrough I recommend trying it again and doing new things. It's fairly short when you know what to do, and gameplay changes a lot with small character tweaks. Try it with really low intelligence, try it addicted to drugs, try it as a female, try it as a pacifist, etc. The writing in both games is way ahead of its our time, and you rarely ever get the exact same interactions with people twice which will often lead to you finding out all kinds of stuff you didn't know about before. I second the portable Fallout notion. When I first played that StarCraft port for DS I think my first thought was "they should totally do this for Fallout!"
  17. *screams excitedly in approval* I did end up grabbing Stonekeep as well and I actually really like it. I think it might be a better dungeon crawler than Eye of the Beholder.
  18. Has anybody played that Stonekeep game? Looks interesting; but in the way that it could either be really great or really awful. Dunno if I wanna take a chance on it or just grab one that I know; like MDK or Messiah. Aren't GoG games just the originals with DOSbox or some similar program? I think you could get it to run. Also; you might be interested in this; http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/lionheart_legacy_of_the_crusader EDIT: Apparently use use this to run Icewind Dale on Windows 7... http://www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/
  19. From what I've heard, that's the only "good" Asylum movie. http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?id=177:sherlock-holmes-dvd-review&option=com_content&catid=58:dvd-blu-ray-reviews&Itemid=182
  20. Yeah, it's interplay games. Not bad deals either. Fallout, Redneck Rampage (the whole collectoin), MDK, Battle Chess, Earthworm Jim, etc. All for $3 bucks. I might just skip coffee today and grab one of those instead.
  21. Experimental music ftw. The Residents are like GWAR for the bourgeois society.
  22. I just found out that I apparently own a steam copy of Left 4 Dead 2. Wonder where that came from...
