I think there's a fair few folks have noted it's not exactly the second coming. But then that tends to gets shot down as "just hating on it cos it's popular". Visually it's terrible, the story is convulted, the materia system requires a fair bit of grinding. But for many it's their first final fantasy (it was the first released in Europe don't forget, and FFIV became FFII n all that stuff), so there's a strong amount of nostalgia for it.

But the fact they're still using FMVs from 1997, which looks shit by todays standard, and that there's no in-game footage or screenshots yet, suggests it's a straight up port of the original game. Which is hugely sucky, and don't really provide much of an incentive to buy the "new" game instead of just emulating the game or picking it up on PS3/PSP for a few quid.

It's looking more n more likely I'm going to get to be the one to say "I told you so" come AC3 release. Sure could be a decent game, but the marketing campaign is terrible and still totally off kilter with the assurances they're attempting to give in interviews.

They're 99.99999% certain they found something that's "Higgs-like". It's going to be many arduous years until they can be certain they found the standard model higgs boson. There's always the fun part where they've found the Higgs Boson, but it doesn't act how it should. Their method of finding the higgs is to look at the aftermath of the collision and work backwards. It's like trying to find a Jaguar by going through shredded car parts. Some expected them to just be at 3-4 Sigma, so this is certainly something (of course them flying in Peter Higgs to the announcement did kinda give away they had something good). But yes, all big news all the same. And this was before they ramped the LHC up to full capacity, so results like this make it oh so much more promising. Must suck to be working on Tevatron right now.

Two of the TVs in my mums house don't have Scart ports which kinda makes them a tad useless if they're the "spare" ones around left for gaming on (thankfully I've got my own TV, incidentally the only one with Freeview built in and HD. So not a problem). The TVs become super useless in a few months time when they become big bang viewers n nothing more.

Hate recipes that look kinda neat, or are like "Quick 5 minute recipes" and are made from ingredients that require an epic trek around world looking for ingredients. My "Student Cookbook" is still my best cos it's all stuff you tend to have lying around a normal kitchen or easily grabable from a supermarket.

I don't really see why the games industry thinks it's special in that it should apparently get a cut of used sales. My gran picks up books from charity shops, the authors don't see an extra penny from that sale. Nor does the director from the pre-owned DVD, or the singer of the second hand CD. Funnily none of them moan in the same way BG publishers do and thankfully I've yet to have to put a code into my blu-ray player so I could access scene 14 of the film. Distributors would see no losses incurred than if I'd downloaded my games many times over than if I sold my account onto someone else and they downloaded the games too. I'm on a second desktop since my steam account started and picked up a netbook too, so my games have been downloaded a fair few times. It's taken account of in their budgets. It also accounts for this too: Yep. that'd be the state of affairs. Steam sells game to me. I now own the game. I can then sell said game on for however many pennies I want and Steam won't see an extra penny. Cos that's how it works. Bleh, not "onerous" at all. Less effort is required since now they don't have to bother with banning peoples accounts. (Well, maybe ban the Americans that seem to think this EU ruling applies to them. US already has precedent on the matter and that is that a license is a license. Cannot be sold, you do not own intangible goods, the company that is selling it still owns it)

There's nothing needed to be implemented. What's currently implemented is EULAs that state you can't sell your account. Within the EU that's not not true. @Fuchikoma: I've no idea what you said. I think something was lost in translation here. This ruling wasn't made as a pro-publisher thing. And I don't get the whole "helping collectors get out of print games" bit. And especially not the last paragraph. A typo maybe? Cos of course new games cost 100% of new price. Did you mean used games at 100% price of new? Cos it's worth noting it's not up to the original distributor to set the price, they're not part of the sale anymore. @Thursday: Sure in the future AE, Tap n GameHalt could change to streaming but licenses can still be transferred and it'll apply to older downloadable titles still. Also many people have wanted to do it, but fear of banned accounts stops it. Also there are a few folks out there with games saved to multiple accounts.

Bread n Butter pudding was the final straw in my bread based meals in year 8 cookery classes. (My mum at the time ran a pub kitchen, and has generally be doing catering work on n off most her life). So simple, and tasty, but yeah it'd be neat if we were taught more than that at cookery (well, didn't matter much in my case, my mum taught me how to cook. Mostly) Most of my quick meals are shitty things like noodles n sandwiches. I usually have a bunch of time on my hand, or specific group of ingredients in the house so I'd take my time in making stuff. To the point of making stuff night before (like pasta salads and chicken sandwiches). Omelettes are my fave quick food, generally good for you (what with the high egg content), and you can toss in whatever you've got left over. I like to make stuff with mushrooms like bolognese or a fry up so tend to have mushrooms going begging, onion, bit of ham, etc.

I think the wikipedia thing with teachers is if they just say "don't use it" then it saves them having to put the modicum of effort into teaching their students how to properly use it. Which is a shame because when used properly it's a really good study tool and would greatly help out students from just an hour lesson to slip in somewhere on the child's education. When the time comes I'll certainly be teaching my little sisters how to use Wikipedia. And cos they'll be using it properly their teachers will most likely never know. Aka you don't install your Steam games to your PC if you're selling your account. Could be a bit of a game changer, could all get overturned down the road. I guess we'll see what happens next time someone tries to sell their Steam/Origin/XBL/PSN account. Kinda like Subversion. And budget I think was an issue with them but they've had no budget to use for years. An AAA studio would be fine to make Subversion but would probably avoid the procedural stuff Introversion were going with, meaning that yeah the budget would hugely skyrocket. @madbass: Isn't that just SP City of Heroes?

I don't think I have any. My films are mostly sci-fi/fantasy/comic book guff, my music is from classical, to game music to 80s pop and dad rock n all that stuff. Not really anything I hide away.
