I've been playing Cthulhu Saves the World. It runs on my netbook (of sorts, it's actually higher res than the netbook screen..or lower res but windowed n no sound...) so I can play it whenever. Not a bad game, and being able to call upon fights in the menu is pretty neat as it helps with grinding and means you can get rid of the random encounters making dungeon exploring somewhat fun.

See the tech could potentially be okay (aside from having nothing physical to use with it) but MS releasing it at its current state nearly a decade before it'd be totally fine is just totally stupid on their part. Kinda sets it back a bit on acceptance than it would have been if they'd have just waited.

Meh I can't see MS picking up OnLive, doesn't seem thier kind of thing and streaming and MP aren't that well together and MP is where MS have their big sell. It is certainly cheap in comparison to things like a photofilter app. Though still pricey given Sony don't have much pennies at the moment but it does seem like something Sony could really make something out of. Do we have any idea how much OnLive is making with their service? I know a fair few people scoff at the idea of streaming games but there does seem to be a few that have stuff like their monthly sub thing going on. A decent price for all you can eat gaming. I can't see them having this as the PS4, though I wouldn't be surprised if it features on the PS4 as maybe either a method of getting demos (it'd be a bit of a coup if you could demo every game on PS3 without ever having to download anything), or maybe another tier (or addition to current services) of PS+. At the very least they'll definitely be testing the waters with it, PSPgo style n all that.

It needs to sell software on top of selling the hardware (unless they're making a profit on it, and they reckon not hence the high price of the PC version). It really did fail to deliver though, most core titles have fallen back on using it for voice, something that any old headset can do, and on the casual front we're now up to yearly sequels of Dance Central and Ubisfot fitness game (Your Shape?). Milo would have been something but it never became anything beyond a...I don't know, it wasn't really even a tech demo I guess. More of a "what we'd like to do" than a "what we can do". It was nearly the price of a whole console and it didn't do what a console could do. Wii managed to hit both core n casual alike, same with the Move. The kinect became relegated to casual titles very fast. And casuals tend not to buy in the same scope as enthusiast market.

"Sony Thread" is Playstation thread. Gaikia is still a PC service. But yeah this was rumoured for an E3 reveal, but obviously never came. Be interesting where it goes cos atm it's still an advert service than something like OnLive for buying games n such.

Been watching it with the wee ones. We're watching a couple every other night, up to..I think The Deserter is next. Phoebe (just 5 yrs) was "airbending" the other day with the wind They're into the show more than I expected. Some elements they don't grasp, like the "spirit world" (to be fair "spirits" isn't exactly a word you tend use in normal convo) and why Zuko freed Aang. Exiled prince is totally over their head, they don't quite understand the dynamic between Zuko and Admiral..Zhao(?). Can't wait to hit Season 2 n Appas kidnapping n Toph and "Leaves on the vine"

Most of the interesting stuff is "Soontm" with pretty much just the shooty bits in place atm. It is pretty neat, and the main part of the attachment to EVE is yet to happen (It's still running on EVE Test server atm not Trinity). And that's when the game is either going to totally fuck up or blow everyone's minds. My main issue is the game has a habit of dropping connection for me quite a bit. That definitely needs resolving. And they only have a few hundred people on atm, so it's not a server strain issue. Or if it is they're fucked. Shooting is neat, I have no idea what I'm doing, it's pretty bland visually but it's a console game so I'm not expecting all magic n sparkles, and definitely not something that looks like Tribes. The blandness fits EVE. So yeah, fun. It's free so not going to say no to it (unless it get's a severe case of Pay2Win), just hope they fix the dropping issue and learn how to do weekend betas in the future.

You can still add cash directly to your wallet. The gift cards are more for..gifts, and maybe trading in games for steam cards or if you've not got a card to pay for things online. Also I'd recommend everyone get their wishlist to having at least 10 items in it, even if they don't super dooper want them (you can organise by priority, just make sure to hit save once arranged), as Steam occasionally has competions to let you win top 5/10 games in Wishlist.

Just reading through it and it seems several other gawker network sites had their spin-offs too, not just Kotaku. They do make a good point. Denton yearly hops along from idea to idea, rarely sticking to anything and making the lightening strike twice of stuff like iPhone 4. Sure the new system (erm I guess old now) would have been great then, but they didn't have it then and they've not had the iPhone 5 since. I guess Denton can be thankful most of his comments about commenters are rarely read by folks who visit kotaku n such.

Don't forget the PS3 interface did star on the PSP a couple years before PS3 came out, so we'll likely seem PS4 with some elements of the PSV interface. Though not al lcos one is built for the controller and the other for touch. Don't change what ain't broken (You here than Windows team?)

Paul. Watched with mum n her BF. I think some refrences were lost on them, but most comes through. Everyone understands dick jokes. I actually went in with low expectations, but it was a pretty fun film. Nice amount of "real sci-fi", some parody, some references(country band playing Kantina theme*, etc), and a bunch of jokes. Good fun film. *My n me mum laughed. BF didn't. He's never seen Star Wars...

I posted a short history of hte place what I guess is now a couple pages back. Basically it started as talkamongstyourselves.freeforums.org alongside the Steam group (which is still around though pretty much abandoned). Back when it was a fan forum. (Which I have limited screenshots of it seems) Then at the end of 2010 we moved to the Invision platform on proper hosting n stuff offered by one of the members, which because freeforums don't let you copy the database did mean starting a fresh. Also meant the start as a kotaku fan forum stuff could be properly ditched since by that point it was largely irrelevant. (And I seemingly have no decent screenshots of that, but for the most part looked as it does now but with teal-ish stars pattern) (Though I do have one from when Chrome added a feature I thought kicked ass on a netbook, but they removed some versions ago ) Then last year, in may or june, we had a big revamp of the Press X or Die blog a few of us had been running since Nov 2010. I already had the domain for a while at that point so it made sense to combine the gaming forum I ran with the gaming blog I also ran. And now we have X-talk at forum.pressxordie.com and here it will remain indefinitely since we have full control over how it runs n stuff. Shouldn't be moving home every again. Though it'll no doubt be getting tweaks over time. Main aim is to have it so that going from the forum to the blog it's nigh imperceptible in the overall visual look of the thing. Though that means me really working on polishing up my php/html/css skills. So the pressxordie.com domain was made alongside it, but was generally a separate endeavour. But over time the two have collided into what we have now.
