http://pressxordie.com/2012/06/30/shameless-gaming-month-2012/ Got an article up, and Trjn is aiming to post his tomorrow(Well..Australian sunday). Got some tips, got any more. My aim for this month is: Valkyrie Chronicles Just Cause 2 Nier Space Marine (though it's OnLive so I dunno if it'll work on this net) Heavenly Sword GTAIV (if I can get it back this month off my brother)

Well I finally found out how long I've left on my contract (2months, and it's like pulling nails to get that info), so I've two months to turn my finances around (aka get a fairly stable job) and I might go for a nicer phone. Until them I'm looking at stuff like the Galaxy Ace 2

They're moving in with the final phase of their ultimate battle plan, which was a multimedia Microsoft PC in your living room. They wanted that back with the original Xbox, though at most it'd rip CDs and I think maybe stream over the network. Now you have multiple options to control the TV without having to use a gaming controller, in Kinect n Smartglass (And the remote if you have it), and it pulls in video from a wide variety of sources. And it plays games too.

It's hard to explain, you'd need to go see it yourself. It's sort of underneath it all kinda like nested comments. But it only shows one comment thread/chain at a time (other nested comments in the chain also get hidden too)

I've not played in years but I'd be up for COH some point.

Not as different as they were meant to be at first. Portal 2 still features the mostly same characters, mostly the same locations, and mostly the same kind of puzzles. But Portal 2 adds in couple extra characters, the sub-level of Aperture sciences, and with that the new Gel system and couple other puzzle elements. Oh and a co-op mode. btw if you're still looking for an RTS to start yourself: http://store.steampowered.com/sale/WarhammerWeekend?snr=1_4_4__40 DOWII does play a bit different from DOWI though, I'm mixed on which I prefer. DOWII looks prettier and I like the Battlegear(or Wargear..whichver it was), it plays more like a sort of RTS-come-RPG. You get loot, equip n level up your soldiers. But DOWII tends to lock you down to a pre-made base, which limits your options a bit compared to DOWI when playing multiplayer. Also, though I've not recently counted with Retribution, DOWI has much more MP maps. Like about 30 or so, which is pretty sweet. They both cost about the same to pick up so I guess up to you. Newer does mean more folks on MP though.

I got an invite too. Kinda silly it's just this weekend. a fair chunk is gone already before I got the email (normally weekend betas you send the invite during the week before), and still got to download it all.

See i recognise Vecha.

Well I can see how that'd be a problem if someone released a new legacy platform.

http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/06/28/valve-moderators-comment-on-half-life-3-concept-art/ So the concept art floating about is supposedly real. Though it's worth noting the Steam Forum moderators are just that(Though they likely will have some things they know over others) https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.375965635802364.86003.274276235971305&type=1

They're probably going to skip the third summer sale. Just go straight to four. That or the next summer sale won't be around for 8 years+. Valve really have some issues with that 3. (I'm gonna guess it'll start next Monday, once the DOW sale is done. Which btw DOW is neat, worth picking up those games.)

My main PS3 games to play would be WipeOut HD which has usually gone down well and as it was one of the free "oops PSN was down a month" games most of us have it. (Though I also have MAG n Warhawk if folks are into that). Though like MasterDex most of my gaming is on PC.

Quite likely. tbh if you're editing the polls I'd suggest a complete revamp. Maybe split it into consoles, handhelds, and other(as in Onlives, smartphones, weird things)

I remember when you used to change it to ca.kotaku.com or uk.kotaku.com so you can actually use the site. Then they killed it off.
-
Wait, I thought a big part of their change a year or so back was so it'd be tablet/mobile friendly?
-
@:LivingTarget: Wait h ow old are you(on kotaku, not age). I "proposed" idea of the forum years n years back (about 3 to be exact. Yup Steam says three.). This place is the final form now. Gone from "TAY forum" on Freeforums.org to X-talk/PXOD on Invision. All they way from a fan forum to a place with a somewhat popular (though less so as people stop reading) "Fucking Kotaku" thread. How things change over the years. So for those following from home we've gone from: talkamongstyourselves.freeforums.org To a minor stint as tay.gappoi.org And then over a year or so ago to save cash (single domain n hosting and the sites were similar) combined my also 3 year old Pressxordie.com gaming blog a few of us kotakuites ran with the forum. Leading to the current X-Talk. Which given everything is now owned and, beyond recurring costs, paid for it shall likely remain as PXOD/x-talk combo. Opens up some extra opportunities too and unlike the freeforums we have complete control over the posts(As you'll see if you hop over to where the freeforums site used to be, they've since wiped it all). You'll still see the odd few "TAY" titled post around actually, like so, so there's bits of it around. But for the most part it is now n for rest of time X-talk. New site, new community, but for 90% or so of users gota common background in kotaku over the years. So yeah, mini forum history for those that cared for it and were maybe confused on where that red n orange place from years back went to n what this place is.

All steam games list if they're SP or MP though. So wouldn't be hard for Steam to figure out if you're running a SP-only game and continue working. Maybe it'll be fixed when new distribution system fully kicks in.

Oh god. Apart from the Torchlight II beta (Which was neat) I don't think I've played any games from this year. Oh wait I guess ME3 and FFXIII-2. Rayman Origins a 2012 game? I'm actually writing up a bunch of mini-reviews for my personal blog on games I've played of late but a lot are older catch ups through backlog or LoveFilm. The fact I've forgotten games suggests this year hasn't been overly memorable for me up to now.

I sorta have a PS2 n Wii in addition to my last stuff listed, since I'm now home n my mum has a PS2 n Wii. Also I still think how the polls were laid out stinks

The Decline of the Japanese Gaming Industry
deanb replied to Strangelove's topic in General Gaming Chat
I'm to understand that how games are made now is something the Japanese education/training system isn't set up for. They're good at doing pixel art n such when that was required, and can write a story suitable for budding games industry. But modern games development they're just not having as quick a turn around as necessary so somewhat lacking there and it's having a knock-on effect. Making entertainment for your own country is all well n good, it's how most countries run, I'd say it's rare to make something with international audience in mind, just it happens to resonate with similar countries. We fill up games like Fable n LBP with British voice casts, humour, n charm, and it just happens to work well in other countries. But Japan has been so cut off from the rest of the world. The west had the renaissance together, we share a cultural heritage and thus out entertainment can flow easily. Japan doesn't have that advantage. But it does have a strong following through the whole anime n following they gained in the 80's n 90's, but they've not really capitalised on it. It does suck cos Japan has some pretty unique games (though there's a degree of "westernisation" going on, which I think is a mistake on their part) and I do agree just having a general bland mish mash of "western games" would suck. I don't think it will go away, but it will become smaller, which in turn means it needs to embrace their indie scene, which some is escaping to the west like Recettear, and learn that they can make cheap games and cheaply spread them around. I think they carry on thinking in the old school ways even worse than some of the big publishers over in the west n thus being hurt by that thinking even worse too. There's tons of Japanese games that they never let leave the island because they don't think it's worth it. If translation is an issue they'll likely find armies of fans willing to translate across for them as long as they make the games somewhat moddable to slot subs/dubs in. -
I'm not exactly minding hehehe.

It's not making him richer, page views are declining. However what he's hoping is the new system can hid the "shit" and thus making placing adverts in the comment section, where a lot of people look, more appealing to advertisers who might not want to be associated with some of the stuff that goes on.

Got Red Faction: Armageddon. Somewhat enjoyable, though I spent my part in the tunnels early on just mainly fleeing (I hate having to shoot small enemies, especially if you don't have a AoE weapon..which at that point I didn't). The weapons are pretty cool, I like the magnet gun though it's a bit OP in being infinite ammo. I finished up last night with it getting late and me having to ride an excavator which was a clusterfuck of trying to fend off a bunch of enemies with very little cover to get behind. Oh and it carried on bugging out, either having me come off the excavator, or on my final run for the night one of the big beasties joining me on my platform. Took me a while to figure out what was shooting at me.

Well I make sure to run a background check on every new member and after vetting them I also tweak their settings to fit them.
