  1. This particular reasoning pisses me off a bit because it always assume that the cash strapped individual is buying the games new. If they're cash strapped to be trading in in the first place, then the chances are they'll be saving more money and buying used too.
  2. I've not watched Top Gear for a while. In fact so long I'm not even sure if this is the Theme tune anymore.
  3. You unlock items and skills, as well as high scores. You get the game used, you don't have the pleasure of earning any of those yourself. It would be like playing LBP but all the items and levels are unlocked. Bit of a bummer. As for your comment regarding no used sales on DD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Man_Gaming And there's also Goo for Impulse, but I don't know if Stardock ever implemented it or if it was mostly concept.
  4. Yeah our laws (ish, more on that later) worked in the opposite direction in that hte 1984 Video Recordings act created the BBFC which up until last year rated video games. However it used to be ELSPA and it's now PEGI. PEGI are independent, they were the replacement due to the Digital Economy Bill 2010. ELSPA I can't find much on. I know they're now UKIE (Which also lacks anything on Wiki too) but I don't know where the change from ESLPA to BBFC came in. All I know is my game collection currently has all three's stamps on. Maybe someone older can fill in. Either way PEGI is legally enforced by the VRA and DEB and given it's standing in Europe (most countries use it) I doubt it will be going away soon. I'd say it's use is somewhat surprising though. PEGI aren't just self-regulated, they're self-rating. Dev's fill out a questionnaire and essentially rate their own games. In comparison the ESRB rate a game with a mix of questionnaire and videos of graphic game footage. Which seems weird. Also means they probably had to watch a full tape of DNF BBFC actually play the game they're rating. And they were the ones Byron report called out on not being focused on gaming. They were probably doing a better job than the two ratings boards that specifically focus on games. edit: sorry in case it wasn't obvious this was more of a ramble than making any particular point. Though the rating process for ESRB was enlightening.
  5. Ouch. Bad grammar would of been something that would of ticked me off back in my Kotaku days.
  6. Yeah past few days have been horrible. It's currently damp after a pretty heavy spurt of rain.
  7. http://dvice.com/arc...om-tries-to.php Posted this on Twitter earlier. The DRM scheme locks the game save. There's no "New Game" there's no saving two games at once. It's probably the worst DRM I've seen to date if true.
  8. The Witcher Wiki Try the Wikia instead.
  9. http://www.lovefilm.com/partnership/exclusive UK only. Not a game deal per se, but Love Film and Amazon do do games so it kinda fits. I'l be giving it a spin next week.
  10. So yeah they decided against it. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/06/27/national/main20074669.shtml Official words on the matter (warning PDF) http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/10pdf/08-1448.pdf From the sounds of it it was apparently a bit too broad and vague, they have suggested a more focused law could get through. I've not really made secret that I see nothing wrong with enforcing ratings on games, but meh you guys like to get in arms if someone mentions the word "first" and amendment together. I do think the "devs will tone down games" claim a bit silly given GTA n Manhunt are UK made. (oh that's a general "internet commenter" thing, not something in the pdf) So yeah, you can sleep safely tonight knowing that kiddies can play COD alongside you on XBL.
  11. You know a fair bit of this got lost. Anyway guess who just change the UK/CA links to their sites? The places that currently accounted for 10-15% of their traffic...
  12. It would more be Friday night and Saturday-day. It went up on Saturday night.
  13. http://destructoid.com/elephant/redeem_code.phtml For those not on PSN+ (for some reason) or without InFamous 2, go ahead.
  14. Lucky Number Slevin. You kinda see it coming a fair while off, but it's good none the less. It's a bit like a slicker more american version of Lock Stock n Snatch.
  15. Cars was always one of their lowest rated but most profitable films. There's always Cars related toys out for sale. Finding Nemo? Monsters Inc? Ratatouille? Nope.
  16. Hell yeah I'm up for some. Lose net on Thursday to Friday though :/
  17. Well obviously I didn't really have a day off since I've been tinkering with this place. But let's here what you guys were up to.
  18. So the Plan is to re-create the several hours of forum posts that got lost: https://www.dropbox.com/gallery/2066351/1/TAY_Friday?h=a190e4

  19. I can see it on a few of the more uptight ones. There was a few doing it with mac players. Makes it easier to work out which servers aren't really worth it.
  20. Yeah I think I'd want to go back to making Firefly as well.
  21. 1. As FSD said you kinda paid for it and got your time out of it. I've gotten several years out of TF2 and regret nothing. Also in that time you'll have managed to get a fair bit of loot too, which could probably be sold on to make up the cash back. 2. They've combated idling before, remember the halo? I doubt they'll have much issue tracking down the people idling. If you are found ot be idling your account get's flagged. 3. Noobs aren't an issue, they turn up all the time. It's part of the fun to take in noobs under your wing and train and nurture them. The hackers and trolls get the exact same treatment they do with the current game. banned and kicked from servers and an eventual VAC ban. The issue will be servers discriminating against recent users. Similar to the Mac release. edit: there you go: http://www.teamfortr...etoplay/faq.php Oh and
  22. Nope. And I can say, as I have said several times in chat: I'm not ever getting and running one again. If someone wants to set one up I won't stop them and I'll see about promoting it on PXOD. But other than that.
  23. http://www.develop-o...es-free-forever In case it wasn't already obvious they were going to do this.
  24. Spider-Man It has not aged well at all. The slapstick elements, the really bad digital Spiderman (which for some reason they use even in parts that wires would have worked fine), the weird all over the place-ness. It wasn't too well paced. It felt like filler in order to then get everyone up to speed and in t he right places. Which given I'm now on Spider-Man 2 and it starts with snapshots from the first film. Tobey McGuire is not a great actor. I think that kinda drags it down. The support is all very good though. Also Cave Johnson. Man he was made for the role. It was hard to watch that parts he was in without thinking of lemons.
