    Pokemon Go

Seems it's for public places that aren't keen on being a stop such as churches, museums, schools etc. I imagine getting a bench or similar removed would be harder.
  2. Yeah, I started it late last night so at the super early stages but Toussant is about double the size of White Orchard I'd say. Maybe a third of Velen or so in size. Just from checking the map with that one mainly. It has its own Gwent n Horse racing tournaments too. It's a mini-Witcher 3. Also rumours of new mutagens and armour with it too. So yeah a decent expansion. Heart of Stone apart from the Runesmith is more a story DLC.
  3. But the problem isn't with Corbyn if the Labour voters want a guy like that in charge and the MPs don't then it's surely the issue of the MPs being in the wrong party or not fully grasping what "Left" is in this day n age. There's only so much that Corbyn can do when a chunk of the Labour MPs are deciding to throw the baby out with the bathwater cos they didn't get their way and fucked up by putting him on the ballot the first time around. Maybe Labour would be more effective if instead of putting their effort int trying to undermine their current leader they actually undermine the tories instead, since that's sort of the job of the opposition. Labour is pretty much fucked either way. Either the members get their way and Corbyn remains leader and the MPs continue to be fuck heads, or the MPs get their way pick some random member to lead them and not have the members support who might start eyeing up all the other parties who aren't undermining their current leader instead. Labour MPs choosing this of all moments to destabilise the party, and failing woefully to stage a coup, lost them the 2020 GE more than Corbyn ever could have. The PM just lost his vote, he's resigned, all the tory PM hopefuls scarpered, it was the perfect time to go in and strike, instead they aimed at Corbyn instead. It's cutting off your nose to spite your face. It's really frustrating to see. I'm not labour but I am leftwards inclined and Labour end of the day is meant to be the main Left party and they're just constantly infighting for years now. I've said it before: Tories may be unpleasant but they're effective n organised. Also I think it's unfair to pin the remain stuff on him too given it's the PM (as of today) that used the referendum as one of his pillars to get elected in the 2015 election (of which Corbyn wasn't leader at the time), and the same PM who actually put the EU ref into motion, and the same PM who was in-charge of the pro-remain camp. It's entirely 100% on David Cameron's head for that one.

    Pokemon Go

So what are folks thoughts on this Holocaust museum issue? I personally think Niantic have handled it quite well in pointing out there is a way to remove yourself as a Gym/Stop/Portal. Given the nature of the game there's no way to manually vet the millions of stops around the globe. I think on the opposite site it's quite cool to see places embracing their status as a Gym, such as libraries encourage people to visit, battle for the Gym, get some books out while they're there (and given it's now summer holidays it's a fairly simple event to set up. There's loads of Pokemon books n such too). There's also small cafes doing discounts if you put a Lure down (since it encourages people to come over and hang around for a good 30 minutes or so). There's that article about issue of "late stage capatalism" which I totally disagree with giving it's getting so many people out and about and hey after an hour or so of pokemon hunting you're gonna want a drink or bite to eat and you're not gonna go to Japan to get that. (I personally feel the article was half written then Go became a thing and editor was like "rewrite this to cover Pokemon instead, it's getting more clicks").
  5. I beat Heart of Stone last night. Pretty solid expansion to the storyline, definitely a "post-game" expansion than anything that'd be a good idea to play during the quest line. It threw me off at first cos there was a lot of talk of being shipped off to a distant land to be executed so when you end up on a beach and there's these foreign warriors I figured I was in a distant land. Anyway after wandering a bit, I was like "wait a minute". Opened up my world map and I was like right outside Novigrad So yeah this one is all set within Velen, a new part of Velen I'm pretty sure at that too since I think it's extended the map out to the east a bit and new estates n villages n such added in. For the most part it's has 4 major quest points, which are relatively hefty ones though I wouldn't say on scale with a full game. Mainly introduces Olgeird von Everec and Gaunter O'Dimm (who I'll be honest I don't remember but he's supposedly from the start of the game). Both rather interesting characters and very much the "love to hate" types. Oh the second major quest as Volgrid is fucking great too. It also adds the Runesmith which I've only gotten my gear upgraded for..Evocation I think is the runeword I have.. makes people explode when they die if I've set them on fire. Which is great when a pack of lvl 5 wolves attack, pop off Igni and they just got "pop". Now onwards to Toussaint.
  6. We have a new PM. Another woman. Not voted for at all given everyone going up against pulled out. Which in her own words means she has no democratic mandate and should call for a General Election. She's a nasty piece of work too. One of her key pillars is getting rid of the EU Human Rights charter. And it's not cos she feels it doesn't give Brits enough rights. Oh and for the non-brits she orchestrated the whole "go home" vans circling London a couple years back too. On the other side of parliament you sort of feel a wee bit sorry for Angela Eagle, even if she has brought all of this upon herself. http://www.theguardian.com/politics/video/2016/jul/11/angela-eagle-abandoned-by-media-as-reporters-focus-on-tories-video It's like the kind of thing you get in The Office. (for context she announced her leadership bid the same day Leadsom pulled out of the Tory leadership race. Given one of those were relating to being PM media were pretty easy to pick one or the other). Labour needs to sort itself out, especially if a snap GE is called. Maybe they should go "well our members voted in a landslide for Corbyn, maybe his kind of politics is the sort of thing people want from Labour, rather than Tory-lite. Maybe if I don't want to look like an opportunistic tit I should maybe reevaluate whether my values align with the party and it's members and if I can change my values, or change what party I'm for....nah I'll just try n tear this party apart for my own gain instead". I'd say Labours mistake that led up to this years ago was picking the wrong Miliband.

Hey at least there's a Meowth in that mix. I'm very much in Pallet town unless I head out to the local park or the river (which I'm yet to do cos the river is a fair bit away). We actually bumped into a few folks out near our house (have a Gym 2 doors down) last night. First guy wasn't playing but was curious as he'd seen so much about it and I guess "you can see pokemon in the real world" sounded a bit weird to him without seeing a practical example. Went for a gander, came back n two other guys were hanging around, asked if playing pokemon. Mentioned we'd dumped ourselves on this gym and the guy was ecstatic cos he'd finally found my housemate, which he knew from portals or whatever in Ingress. He was quite low level n despite being opposite team my two housemates went off to help him take down a gym (I was already heading home before the first guy so I went home cos it'd been a couple hours that point). One of the groups we met on Monday was a 20-something couple, it was the boyfriend playing, the girlfriend didn't really get it but was happy for the walk around the park. guy you met sounds like an absolute knob. For Android users there's a new update out, so if you're in an unofficial release country then you'll want to grab it from here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/niantic-inc/pokemon-go/pokemon-go-0-29-2-release/pokemon-go-0-29-2-android-apk-download/
  8. The paypal still works, it all goes into the same account. There's choice n flexibility there to suit folks.

    Pokemon Go

I've avoided Gyms at the moment to not get pissed off with the game before it settles in. If a Pokestop doesn't trigger, no huge loss. There's plenty around town. Thursday you do your Zombie Run stuff, you'd probably get quite a kick from this. Give it a download and a shot.

    Pokemon Go

Had a pretty good session today, went to the local park put down a lure n we had about 20 or so folks milling around catching pokemon, headed further into town and met a few others along the way. Pretty much any group with them all on their phone is likely to be pokemon. Then we went to the pub (near 3 pokestops) and charged phones up while servers continued to be dicks.
  11. I'm only on the Heart of Stone atm so can't speak for the other (where I imagine given you're meant to be 34+ you should have a decent chunk of gold), and I can't think of any thing like that apart from the start up costs for the Runewright and that's in stages so no singular lump sum and certainly not required, just a nice tweak to how the glyphs n runes work.

Oh you can make them easier a bit by feeding them berries first.

It's pretty much Android vs iPhone. Then from there what you like the look of mainly, and if you'd want SD support or not. I got a Moto X cos I could customise it to my liking, from there there's very little different between it and most other handsets on the market. They're all stupidly powerful now as of a couple years ago.
  14. Helps cover the annual license for the forum software which has lapsed. Which means no updates to this place (even though I now have the time) and other side stuff like the new user spam filter service (which you might have noticed has been not running of late).

You level up through catching pokemon, hatching eggs and evolving, all of which are stuff you do at the basic level of the game. There's "pokecoins" which you can either buy, or earn through capturing Gyms(You earn currency from defending up to 10 gyms a day). These are used in a shop where you can buy Pokeballs (which are like the most common drop from Pokestops and I've held a couple hundred at one point), Incense (an uncommon drop) that's used to bring pokemon your way, or Lures(also a drop) which affix to a stop to increase the Pokemon in local area for everyone. Oh and you get a bunch of shit each time you level up too. Nothing is pay-gated, and I believe the only issue you might have is if there's no Pokestops in your area for drops in which case you're kinda fucked regardless. Otherwise you walk around past the Pokestops, level up your Pokemon and dominate gyms. And find people to play with. It's a social game, we've a 232 member group for the North East already going and sorting out like daily meets n walks and shit.
  16. Thursday bumped up his input a couple hours ago. It was at $14. Thanks for everyone that joined in so far!

    Pokemon Go

To copy paste my post from our local Pokemon Go group (p.s check FB/Reddit you'll likely find there's something sorta local to you): Welcome to Pokémon GO Trainer School Pokéstops - Poké Stops refresh every 5 minutes (probably worked that one out already). - What you get from them depends on your level. - If you have sick or KO'ed Pokémon you're more likely to get potions and revives. Gyms - If you defeat a Gym it knocks out a Pokémon, when there's no Pokémon in a gym it's Neutral and can be claimed (for the glory of Zapdos!) - Fight your teams gyms to level them up (and gain experience) - As you level up gyms your team can add more Pokémon, up to a reported 11 (Credit to Alex for this) - Every 16-24hrs (it varies) you get 10 Pokécoins and Stardust from each gym you hold (up to 10 gyms). Visit the Shop to receive these. - Swipe to doge, tap to attack, hold (when charged) to use your special attack. Multiple people can join in to attack a gym at the same time (it's pretty cool). Catching Pokémon - Tap on individual Pokémon in the "Nearby" tab to view the relative distance - Amount of footprints relates to distance, walk around to triangulate on rare and uncommon Pokémon - Everyone sees the same Pokémon on the map - If you use an incense you'll get different Pokémon to others. Best used in one spot, i.e home/work rather than walking around. - The circles indicate difficulty, ranging from green, yellow, orange and red. - Tap and hold the Pokéball to decrease circle size, hitting this scores more XP - Spin the Pokéball for a curveball(may or may not increase chances) - The Pokémon that appear change throughout the day. - Pokémon you catch reward 3 candies, so sure it's a Pidgey but that's food for your Pidgeot. Caring for Pokémon - You can rename all your Pokémon at any time, just tap them, then click the editing pencil. - Use the "Transfer" to permanently remove Pokémon by sending to Prof Willow where he...err somehow comes up with 1 Pokémon-relevant candy. Don't ask how. - Don't just get rid of low-CP Pokémon, check the moves, there's quite a variety. - No idea if weight does anything apart from an achievement for XS Rattatas. - There doesn't appear to be any benefit in using candies to Power Up a low evolution Pokémon. Eggs - It only tracks walking for eggs when the app is open and active - Open your Pokémon, scroll to "Eggs" then add in incubator. You get one infinite incubator, unlock temporary incubators from Pokéstops - Cars and trains will not count for your distance travelled. Low-speed cycling is probably fine though. - Once hatched they'll give you a decent chunk (usually in teens) of candies. - 2KM eggs tend to be common pokemon, 5KM eggs uncommon, 10KM I've not a clue not walked that far with one yet Other - In the "Battery Saver" mode turn your phone upside down, the screen goes black but will still alert you to nearby Pokémon and Pokéstops. - A battery pack is a good investment; sold online, PC World, Maplins, and even Tiger has some cheap ones. - Servers tend to die around 7pm-midnight. I imagine cos folks are off work then. - If you're in-game a sign the server died is blank white Pokéstops. But leave the app open, can still rack up walking distance for your eggs. - Catch em all, be the very best. - Don't walk into traffic/the Tyne. @Jack: Do you mean as in automatically caught them? Cos that don't happen. But I have had the little vibration alert indicate one is around. @Mal: Yeah cos the game is pulling data from Ingress a lot of those players are college/uni kids so it has a strong focus around those areas. Rural/family areas tend to be quite limited. My most annoying bug is when it won't let you kill a Gym pokemon. Given claiming Gyms is the sort of "end-game" for it, it kinda pisses me off when I'll lose Gyms but it bugs out so I can't reclaim them.
  20. Zero Theorem It's the usual weird and wacky Terry Gilliam film. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great, it was there. It's pretty though, but not as iconic as Brazil in my mind.
  21. From watching my housemate play this, these guys decided to take the Fable 3 John Cleese menu and just go full hog with it. edit: I am currently playing Heart of Stone in Witcher 3 and damn forget how funny this game could get when it contrasts against Geralts usual stoic demeanour.

    Pokemon Go

I managed to do a 20 minute walk to city centre, a convoluted gander around shopping and pokestopping, and then sort of spiralled a bit outwards to some gyms on outskirts, then took long way back and got home with 30% of the battery still. Which given it's running sound, GPS, etc consistently throughout all that and I'm running my usual stuff on top of that like twitter n facebook n what not I'd say it did pretty well. Oh and having the app open a chunk of it to navigate toward gyms. If you've an OLED screen I imagine you'll do even better (the phone I have removed the OLED from the current model). edit: This is what it looks like in battery saver mode: (though upside down)

    1. Green circle (which is also yellow, orange and red in level of difficulty) will earn you "Nice" "Great" "Perfect" if you nail it that zone, holding down the pokeball shrinks it (until it then enlarges again), and if you spin the ball you get a sparkle n curve on it too, which I believe also get more XP. 2. Nope, game needs to be on to alert you, and also to count distance walked to hatch eggs. Turn on "Battery Saver Mode" in the settings, put phone upside down and it darkens it, then stick an earbud in and walk around. You'll get a vibrate for pokemon, and a sort of beepey tone for Pokestops (with lower pitched when you walk out of range). The amount of footsteps (from 0 to 3) is the range to the pokemon, you can triangulate. The pokemon are sort of location based, so in the local park area we've found Nidorans, Caterpies n such, and nearby in more built up street area it's like pidgeys n rattatas. And yeah near water is usually water types. It also changes at night, just like real pokemon. So yeah you won't complete your pokedex sitting on your ass (the entire aim of the app is getting folks travelling around) 3. Oh I guess I covered that above. 4. Oh same again. I guess for the above: Now is a time to pick up a battery pack. They're extremely affordable these days (some companies even throw out branded ones like the trend for branded USB sticks), and well worth having in the modern survival toolkit.
  24. It's sorta more in a if it's the only thing you say, like going to a lass, give a wink n "you up for it?". So yeah, largely context based. On the "things you can say for drunk" I know some folks don't like him but this covers it best: (funny, he opens it with "up for it?" )

Not if the app is physically incompatible with the device to even install.
