  1. Only watched a few minutes so far. Heh opening with Stand By Me They're wearing way too much black for a sunny day. And the opening is mainly the original demo, though bit more expanded, n few tweaks and additions. Trying to place that background music, it's definitely a riff on a past tune.
  2. From what I'm to understand of MGSV n this, is it not simply a cash-in on the existing engine and assets by slapping in some zombies n calling it a day?
  3. So, Stranger Things. Pretty dang good. There is a wee plot hole near the end though Otherwise yeah it's pretty solid, really liked the length of it. Folks have said it's like a long movie and yeah it kind of is. Getting a lot more of that kind of stuff these days. I like how Netflix shows are made to embrace the release style and have shows that flow from one in to the other compared to shows for TV where there's a clearer beginning middle n end of each episode. I think we're gonna see a few of the cast popping up in other stuff down the line (one of the kids is already in It but that was a pre-Stranger Things choice given the origin of Stranger Things). I don't think a sequel would work, at least a direct sequel (even with the "cliffhanger" ending), but I think something maybe like in a similar vein in a different setting might. I really liked the science teacher character. He was a minor character but he was quite important in explaining some of the more sciency elements and putting a fair few plot elements in motion such as given a nice demo on parallel dimensions, and the comparison of the monster to the flea. DnD was also a great element of it, something that is still seen as quite nerdy but more folks have exposure to to somewhat understand some of the analogies used for it. Oh yeah, it was nice in how the nostalgia it has is more in how the show is filmed and such rather than "hey this is the 80s, look at the women wearing power suits, families in windbreakers" n such you'd get in say...hot tub time machine. Since the latest "No Small Parts" reminded me of it: Check out Taken if you enjoyed Stranger Things. It has a young Dakota Fanning and Anton Yelchin in it. It's similar sort of vibe of Stranger Things though with less of a homage-ness, n since it covers from end of WWII through to early 2000's it's not any specific kind of period homage in it (it is produced by Spielberg though). edit: Oh yeah I'm a couple episodes into Mr Robot. I like the unreliable narrator aspect of it. . Also a few episodes into the second series of Star Wars Rebels. Rex is back. Knew he would be but always nice. Waiting for the big pay off as they find out who Darth Vader is.
  4. Man I'm due a reinstall at some point, n tbh shouldn't be too hard given main drive is mainly OS n programs on an SSD, with Steam mostly on another drive. Main issue is while Win 10 is actually quite quick to install, it';s the bother of setting everything else up again that's a PITA.
  5. Yeah the vast majority of planets are nothing like the trailers in either looks or density. Most look like barren crapholes, and the only sort of "lush" planet I've found had zero fauna. Like sure I understand they'd tweak their parameters to have a good looking planet to show off at E3 and on Colbert but it's not even remotely what most of the planets are like. They can surely tweak how common or uncommon barren planets are so why choose to have it almost consistently 3 for 3 on shitty planets. Like I can understand if maybe a moon (Incidentally in one system I popped into the moon was pretty much on top of the planet. Primitive species could have travelled to the moon with a spring enough tree n some rope) was barren as hell, but the planets should maybe not all be Mars like.(I understand in "reality" barren planets should be more common but so should gas planets n they've stated there won't be any). Also I've had some copper n Chrysonite but will have sold due to inventory space. Playing Witcher 3 and Toussant is as pretty as it was in the trailers.
  6. I wonder how big it'll be.
  7. In case you've not got the time to do a replay before Mankind Divided pops out. Also this which I think Cyber Rat maybe had a thing to do with.
  8. This popped up in my Spotify playlist, reminded me a bit of Stranger Things (I looked into it and no they didn't do it, and I'm not the first to think so). So now listening to their other stuff as background tunes.

    Terrible Jokes

Three surgeons are at a dinner and talking about their favourite patients to work on. "I prefer librarians", says the first, "You open them up and everything is in alphabetical order". "My favourite is electricians, you open them up and everything is colour coded" The third chimes in, "I prefer operating on lawyers. They're spineless, heartless and their heads and their arses are interchangeable"
  10. https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2016/08/15/ps4s-4-00-beta-starts-tomorrow-get-a-sneak-peek-at-upcoming-features/ Beta for version 4 is coming out. Changing a bunch of the overlay menus for share n PS button, and also adding in library folders which'll be nice.
  11. Looks more like a giant alien dragon egg to me... (god what a stupid episode)
  12. It had a day one patch? (anyway at least we're fairly certain that this doesn't have MP ) @TFG: There was the Duscae Demo or whatever that came with Type-0 HD that was more of a slice of the actual game. I guess the public demo was more an old-fashioned style demo in that it was specifically made as such. edit: anyway the whole Duscae thing is exactly the kind of thing NMS should have done anyway in the whole "early access" thing to take on feedback n make changes. Here's the UI changes:
  13. Delayed to end of November: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/08/final-fantasy-xv-worldwide-launch-officially-delayed-to-november-29/ It seems the idea is to avoid having to put out a day-one patch. Seems a bit weird but whatever.
  14. TPB?
  15. Will have to let know how that Reigns pans out. Seen a bit of a buzz about it.
  16. Yeah I know it's Shane Black, hence the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang remark. It's a very samey feeling to it. Which is like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is good but feels like a sort of "stuck in a rut" kind of thing. I'm not exactly articulate at film critique (apart from on a technical level I guess)
  17. I think it's more of a "why are the language stones only teaching you the one language in that vicinity". Like sure it makes sense that learning words from a base encyclopedia or from a member of the species directly would be only that species language (I too am pretty tight with the Gek), but surely ruins n knowledge stones can be any one so you're not completely starting from scratch with each new species you come across (even though there is only three species...) The Milestones is more of a pain because it sort of "stops" the game for a good few seconds to do it. Like fleeing from a sentinel, about to hop in your ship n hey you've walked 10,000 miles! Not helpful right now. I feel in the midterm, short-term being making it work for most of the folks who picked it up, that the inventory needs to be the main priority to solve. Inventory and upgrade make no sense to be one and the same. Like sure you can get yourself a suit with fast running, boosted jetpacks n radiation shielding but good luck being able to have the capacity for fuel to recharge it. Like maybe have upgrade slots? Like 2 upgrade slots per equipment so you can style it to how you play without being able to slap on everything and not being totally fucked for inventory space all the time even with all the capacity upgrades.
  18. Wasn't that mainly FFXIII or have other stuff done that too?
  19. Peter Serafinowicz is being pretty good with his Trump stuff (though here he starts to sound a bit like Spongebob)
  20. The Nice Guys Was fun. Very Kiss Kiss Bang Bang though, in a sort of backhanded compliment kind of way. Honestly surprised the Jurassic Park kid at the start wasn't involved in some way (apart from the initial intro of "Misty Mountain"). I felt Goslings character was overly stupid though. The entire "we need $100K" scene/set-up was stupid n extremely out of place with the rest of the film. Like in a "I feel a scene was accidentally cut from the film" kind of way. Otherwise if you like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang you should enjoy this.
  21. Kenny Baker has died aged 83
  22. It's on GOG DRM free. *wink wink* edit: So I saw this and I think it's a pretty good summation of most of my thoughts so far: https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/4xf1bt/no_mans_sky_pc_performance_so_bad_streamers_arent/d6fb5xd
  23. Spaceshipping works a bit better with the PS4 controller instead of using KB&M. Somewhat unfortunate you need to do that though. There's still some clunkyness to it including the run being a bit weird n the gun has a grenade launcher on it that doesn't fire from the RB above the RT for shooting (I've upset a few drones with that mistake). Interplanetary travel is kinda weird too, not super keen on the lack of solar system level mapping (that I can tell) or a way of setting points of interest as direct ship waypoints. (it took a bit too long to figure out getting in to space ports. I'm a bit too used to the usual "get near by then initiate docking n it does it automatically". I had to find the actual docking hole n fly in :/) Otherwise got past the Warp Drive tutorial segment thingy, gone ot the next system over n quickly became BFFs with the Gek. Also knowledge stones that are like "ruins" n such. Had to go underwater for one which wasn't a pleasant experience (it's super slow for one). Game could really do with some kind of space buggy or something. The space ship is too big for anything but a longer planetary journey (n chews through plutonium like mad when launching). Or maybe a "teleport to ship" function (there is the beacon things but they're more rarely spread around (n most of the time I've landed my ship next to one anyway) and don't quite work if you're wanting to get to a ship after getting lost in a cave system or miles out to sea. Heck even a "call ship to me" function might be neat. ATM it feels like a lot of it would have strongly benefited from some kind of Early Access release instead of spitting it out 80% complete n charging £40 for the privilege. Come in at the lower budget, take on board some community input, not get as much flak for having an unstable as hell release, etc. Then scale up the price as features get implemented. The version I have is the GOG release btw, which might explain my lack of issue in launching it (it crashes if you ever alt-tab though which for a PC game is pretty retro feeling ). Loads real fucking slow though, Witcher 3 boots up easily twice as quick.
  24. It seems, especially based on the FFXV playlist on Spotify that recently went up, that Florence + the Machine is the main song person for FFXV. Kinda hoping it's just a couple one offs like when they did pop-songs for FFX n such. Really liked Somnus from the first trailer. Oh on the above, it seems I didn't post it here, but there was a Chinese demo of the same boss fight that ran a lot better in actually looking somewhat compelling. Not sure I'd be able to find it again though. Also some screenshots of their food: Apparently some of your guys will have different favourite foods which'll sway the buffs you get from eating certain foods at restaurants. Bunch of pictures here but the wording is all Japanese http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1014495.html
