In other news todays big "what did he say now" Trump implied shooting Hillary was an option. (he is aware that statistically if he was to become president it'd be a very likely action taken against him right?) Secret Service "is aware of comments made today".

http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/08/09/new-pokemon-go-tracking-test-rolled-users/ They're rolling out a beta testing for a new "Nearby" system. You'll have seen the proto-version of it roll out in the past day with stuff now having a grass background on it. For those picked for the beta they'll have the grass replaced with the relevant nearby Pokestop (if the pokemon has spawned near one) and for pokemon not near a stop you'll get the current grass stuff. Seems a neat way around it but yeah if you're in a rural area you're kinda fucked but that's been the theme of the game from day one.

So it not being multiplayer at all is confirmed. Two guys met up on Twitch and you don't see any other players. Not really surprising given: - If it's a million in one chance of meeting in an near infinite universe why bother coding all this stuff maybe only 3 people will use - Technically "no chance at all" is sort of near "unlikely". In same way it's "unlikely" I'd ever get a BJ off Scarlett Johanson. - On the Giantbomb stream they were able to pause the game. You usually can't pause the game in an online game. - Given they've said the planets are regenerated for every player so you can't carve your name into the planet and others would see it cos only the name n seed is stored also really kinda confirmed it - Also on Steam it's listed as Single Player only. So yeah it's only multiplayer in the same sense folks will see the names you've given planets and creatures. Pretty much the same level of "MP" Spore had really. Like it's clear MP was never an aim with this game and I'm not bummed by it's omission (though I feel it'd have made the game much more long-term n "that word begining with e for games you do shit in that aren't part of the game it escapes me at the moment"). I am kinda bummed that they continued with the (abnd I quote from his twitter literally yesterday): "The chances of two players ever crossing paths in a universe this large is pretty much zero." It's not "pretty much zero" it's "zero". In the same sense that the chances of two players crossing paths in a Skyrim this large is "pretty much zero" cos it's a technical impossibility. They've continued to tease it as a possibility, a challenge for the dedicated to try n meet up with friends, but it's just something that's not part of the game "You play in your own universe, only the data on planets and names is shared, you can't meet with friends" wouldn't be hard to say. Maybe there's a bit of the old molyneux in the water over in Guildford.

Maybe it's gonna turn out like it's the Prestige. "Julia couldn't even undo a simple knot. Sad".

Ah yes his mythical shop. It was a point on the wee tour of Glasgow.

Apparently no one I know that I can see (though tbh I'm not overly familiar with half the social functionality of the PS4)

So since I've been away from computer and I've had adverts pop up for them on Facebook I've been playing Final Fantasy Exvius and Final Fantasy Mobius lately. They're both mobile-only final fantasy games (as opposed to the other FF titles that are ported from the console releases). Exvius is more akin to old-school SNES sprite looks with a basic storyline of crystals and such, you follow three main characters and flesh it out with "vision" characters that are a mix of original to Exvius characters and some past golden oldies (so I've a like Kefka, ExDeath, Penelo, Terra, etc in my party). You travel through areas mainly doing battles in a decent take on the turn based battling. You pick your characters moves and then tap them to activate, given some might boost magic n what not the order you play them will affect the battle outcome. You can also set folks on "Auto" for the easy battles (which for me is mainly grinding the daily quests). The individual party members level up gaining you abilities and you can "awaken" them to further increase their overall power (Though starting them at level 1 again). There's parts built for purposeful grinding (mainly to get new items), and events now n then (currently "Demons of Something" to get a Gravity Staff at the end of it). Some areas also unlock "Explore" mode which'll have you go around looking for items based on quests ("my kitty ran into the scawy fowest"/"I dropped my fiances necklace in the dessert" type things) or just to gather items in that location like iron ore n crystals n what not for forging items n gear). I find it's pretty well balanced in levelling up, unlocking characters, and the story and quests aren't exactly high calibre they're okay and the story characters have a bit of depth to them. I think it's a rather worthy effort. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFBEWW&hl=en_GB FF Mobius is a tad more newer (I think it only just came out this week) and has 3D models though some really terrible lack of AA despite the fact I know my phone is more than capable of handling it so it looks a bit like an upscaled PS2 game. In this you play as one character (named after yourself) and you get "cards" with abilities and jobs to augment how you play each level. You tap to attack (it's also turn based) and get energy orbs to activate certain abilities. It's a bit random in what orbs you get (you can do things to augment the orbs enemies will drop but it's not really an art or skill) which can leave you fucked over in some cases when you're 1 orb short of using Blizzaga or what not. The cards you'll get are mostly based on the new enemies (I say new, but some of the models are definitely ripped from FFXIII so maybe some are from XIV) as drops at end of battles, but you can use your "magicite" currency and ticket drops to "summon" other cards which'll usually feature familiar faces such as a Yuna Cure card n Shiva Blizzaga n what not. You level up both yourself, jobs and the cards which all gets a bit confusing on setting up your characters. Oh and you get "seeds" at the end of battles to spend on levelling up your jobs in specific ways (e.g +5 damage, +100hp, + fire resistance etc). The story is a bit vague in it too, mainly a moogle following your around talking about a prophecy it half remembers about the "Warrior of Light" which is likely you. Exvius had a fair few patches to tweak itself (and pretty consistent content updates too) in early release so I'm gonna stick with Mobius a bit n see how it pans out. Given I'm now back home with a PC, PS4 n PS3 it might not fare well https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.mobiusff_ne

Eh I can put up with janky animation, watched a ton of Hanna Barbera stuff and studied it for a while too. I feel it captured Spider-man pretty well and had a good amount of villains and such. Sure it's not BTAS but I don't think anything ever will be. Young Justice is probably the most recent closest to TAS that has been around.

Having been to a chunk of places the last few weeks while I can be dull if you're in the same place all the time there's certainly a fair chunk of variation in the default pokemon in different areas. I went to a National Trust park the other day and there was a ton of clefairys everywhere and even showed up with a charmander now n then (and a decent chunk of stops and even a gym. Spread out but given the nature of the nature park it was nicely balanced out). Around my dads it's mainly weedles that are the common pokemon, with a fair few meowths n venonats on top. Then I got back home and right outside my house 3 pidgeys popped up n surrounded me. I actually spent a chunk of my saved up Play credit on getting a bag upgrade. Keep on top of your revives, raspberrys n outdated potions and you'll soon have a fair horde of pokemon balls. I guess it's local area permitting but you can usually sort out a walk that'll have you going past a loop of pokestops on a five minute basis n give an hour of walking should have more than enough of a build up.

I guess it might to anyone that was born before 1950? I don't think we've had tuppence as a currency since 1972. *googles* 1971 (which was decimalisation day when we shifted from shillings n pence n what not over to pounds and pence where 100p made £1). Also my gran has one of these, wondered what it was for: (I just used to like clicking the buttons as a kid) I remember seeing someone question how it was that 1cm2 of water weighs 1g and freezes at 0C n such. "Cos the measurement system was built that way". I know they're shifting from using physical items as the measuring stick though (seeing as the kilo balls have been changing weight between each other over the last few decades).

They've thrown up some pretty extensive patch notes for day one on their site: http://www.no-mans-sky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/ It seems less like a patch and more like "putting in a lot of missing functionality into the game". It feels a bit like some of those DRM patches Square used to do on PC where the disc would have like 80% of the game then you had to download another 2GB to get the rest on launch day. As I've said on twitter I'm unsure if they've just gone into weird turbo mode since going "Gold" after years of lackadaisical development or if they've purposefully held a chunk back from the disc version in a "in case the game leaks no one can do everything" kind of sense which is kinda silly and probably explains why they're not putting out review copies until pretty much on release. Also the patch means you have to delete your local save (There's a "cloud save" which they're wiping and has like the discoveries on, and a local save I guess has your equipment n progress saved to) which I'm hoping is just patch of their "DRM patch fucking overness" and not gonna be consistent thing each time they patch the game. Anywho recently found it's going out on GOG so err I might find a way to give it a short spin... @SomTervo: I nearly mentioned something after the stream Mal posted up cos at time he seemed to be doing things a little bit stupidly but for the most part doing okay and I dislike judging others playing since I doubt I do very well myself (which is a big thing putting me off doing streams).

As folks have said on Twitter they should bring him to term. (anyway if it's not a legitimate presidency the US has ways of shutting that whole thing down). Also Hillary(and social media team) seems to be on fire of late.

Killing Joke is a standalone thing, not part of the DCAU. (It seems with the recent Teen Titan film they're actually tying it backwards into Young Justice a bit). Though overall the DCAU is nowhere near as strict as the MCU has been in joint continuity. MCU has defintely impacted the popularity of certain characters. Guardian of Galaxy was Z tier, heck it got rebooted, and ended up one of their most popular films. It's amazing Marvel could make hit films with b-list characters and washed up film stars but WB\DC can take one of the most famous super heroes, THE super hero, and also bring in oscar winners and end up totally fucking up. Sounds Suicide Squad has done the same. Superman Returns did a great Superman, the classic plane save n all that n snyder has him levelling buildings n breaking necks. Chris Reeves gave a masteclass in the big blue scout. Like...how was Green Lantern not their only fuck up to be butt of a joke in a Marvel film. @atomsk: how dare you shit on animated spider_man.

Seems to be more of a tram than a bus (looks like it's on tracks). Makes sense I guess since it's not gonna be super flexible at that size on regular roads. But yeah be interesting if it ends up with someone crashing into it.

Finished Bojack. Pretty damn good, and very brutal in the third series. I'd think it'd actually be fine if it was to end there. Everyone else has done relatively well for themselves and bojack is rightfully fucked (should be more fucked over than he is though given events he causes..) Onwards to wrap up Preacher and give Stranger Things a shot.

The guy who beat the game noted that his suit n omnitool seemed to have far more upgrade slots at end game than his ship did which he felt was a bit weird. (also the NMS sub is a hell of a crazy place)

I don't think the issue was with being able to display the distances in a symbolic way given it started off with the 0, 1, 2, 3 footsteps. I think it's more they're running the tracking server side rather than client side that puts probably the biggest load on their servers since they have to track your location, the pokemon nearby locations, and then tell your phone to change the footsteps depending on your distance and with all the pokemon on a different timer to each other also update the entire nearby list if some appear or disappear. And does this for everyone in the same area. A solution would be to do it client side which means just sending a list every 10 minutes or so to the app and the app does the distance calculations but that makes it easier for folks to muck about in the code n say make the app think you've got a ton of Dragonites nearby or whatever. As for the double server load, the Pokevision would only let you pull it from their site every 30 seconds(and since majority of pokemon appeared from 5-20 minutes at a time you didn't need to refresh constantly) and it's a single source. The vast majority of folks I know using it would usually only have one person in a group using it and normally only pulling out if a particularly rare or uncommon pokemon showed up on the Nearby list.

from the seemingly most legit actually Pokemon Go FB page: https://www.facebook.com/PokemonGO/posts/940141879465704 So yeah seems they're working on actually sorting it/improving it. Just seems in the meanwhile they find it better to turn it off than leave it enabled but severely broken. It's dicks about the pokevision sites n such. I imagine "maintain quality of service for players" is more lingo for "we felt it was cheating and created a vaguely unfair advantage for people using them" than "it was directly and on a technical level fucking with our servers" or whatever.
-
Yeah when Pokevision was a thing if I saw a pokemon I wanted I'd check for it n head to it, but as it stands I'm largely happy gathering what pokemon may crop up (which a bunch of us are definitely noticing a change in those that are showing up) and waiting until they sort the tracker some more.
