  1. I've had a bear right outside my car while I was in it. I knew the car wasn't going to protect me from shit, so I made sure I drove the fuck off. Fuck they are big. Pretty docile creatures, overall. Luckily, it was after something else at the campsite, not what food I had in my trunk.
  2. Damn, straight! In the outskirts of town there are coyotes. Down at The Grapevine there are mountain lions. In the foothills there are bears. Foxes show up now and again, but a shotgun blast will scare them away from the chicken coop. It's a necessary tool of life out here. Edit: To clarify, I have worked in the food industry, from cattle and crops (both organic and non-organic) to food processing in large facilities. To ensure a crop, and for the safety of the livestock and ranch hands, shotguns are typical. Mountain lions are of particular importance. Terribly dangerous, especially when hungry.
  3. Mental health is really the issue. Most of you are probably too young to remember Rebecca Schaeffer. I'm sure you remember John Lennon. (Rebecca's murder was what triggered a book in the bodyguard industry.) These events happened because of people who are mentally unstable. Edit: Not saying all people that have emotional issues are to blame. But, there does need to be a system of checks and balances.
  4. Both. You know Blue Ivy is a target just as much as the Obama girls. So is Suri Cruz. There is nothing wrong with having armed guards or arming yourself, but don't say it's only exclusive to 'me and not you, because you aren't shit and I'm the fucking boss, bitch'.
  5. That sounds a lot like Senator Feinstein. She pushed to get banned "carry concealed weapons" permit in the state of California. Then, she wants to get one for herself. No one gives a fuck about her old ugly ass. If anyone needs a concealed weapons permit, it's the celebrities and CEOs and shit that live in California and/or their respective bodyguards. But, I guess it's okay for old bitches who look like they have one foot in the ground already, and not for people who have legitimate death threats and crazy stalkers.
  6. Sorry. I mean Costco has some good quality seedlings. The produce is just okay (I have had issues with their vegetable quality). The seedlings they get are decent varieties that come in a mixed pack. Good stuff!
  7. How I love the Rock and Sock Connection.

  8. If they do not take, Costco usually has quality fruit/tomatoes. The transplants they get are tasty and bountiful. Worth the price.
  9. 5 gallon should do for a small variety of tomato. For the larger vareities, you'll need more room or they will weigh the plant over once the vines get to full size. Still too cold for me to plant seeds for tomatoes. I can't risk the freeze. Thank you for that offer, but I have some pumpkin seeds going already. Not sure what kind or how big they will get, but they do take a bit of land if the leaves get large. I'm thinking of digging up some other plants to make more room for vegetables.
  10. Get paper plates, plastic forks, and plastic party cups.
  11. Now that the temps are going to dip below 32, I am winterizing my citrus by added a thick layer of mulch around the base of the trees. To ensure that the frost damage is minimum over the next few days, I might put some plastic sheets around the trees (though that is hard with a 18 ft lemon tree). My lemons just came in these last few weeks, so hopefully they survive the cold. It would be a shame to see hundreds of ruined lemons sitting on the ground, when we go through 1 to 2 a night until summer, when the tree no longer has ripe fruit (the variety of tree allows for a long season of lemon production).
  12. "Amazon didn't make their money from giving things away for nothing." Actually, in the early years of Amazon, the stock value kept going up, even though the company had projected losses for the next 10 years. No one who was reasonable could figure it out, but the dot com bubble was still riding high in those days. Silicone Valley was the new gold in California. So...
  13. And I bought Mr. Drakes books (both books in a discount bundle) from Amazon.
  14. Didn't I see a status update by Chewie earlier?

  16. We're fat and somewhat happy for a reason. Do you guys get Double Stuff Oreos, then? It's twice the white, delicious center!
  17. Okay, some decent bundles (not spectacular) at Amazon for download: First bundle: Desert to Sea Bundle. Spec Ops: The Line, BioShock, BioShock 2. Price is $9.99 for all three games. Second bundle: 2K Strategy Super Pack. Civ 5 GOTY, Civ 5 Gods and Kings, Civ IV Complete Edition, The Stronghold Collection. Price is $19.99 for all of them. Third bundle: The WTF Pack. 18. 3 and a half hours wrapping gifts. Almost done.

  19. It's mildly spicy, but definitely more sweet. I love mixing it with mayo for many things. My parents decided to have a Christmas dinner at their place today. We had Chinese takeout AND a giant sushi platter. I ate until I could eat no more.
  20. I understand why bestbuy is doing shitty and closing stores. Fuck me!!

Yeah, you know you're being weird when Strangelove isn't the creepiest person on the forum anymore.

Hour and a half in a line with 10 people in front of me. Four people working the line, yet no one can do a damn thing. My mother in law saw one person helping put on a phone screen cover. He sprayed and wiped that thing 10 times over a 10 minute period. She asked if all he did was wash windows.

Yeah...they have a horrible selection of games/movies as well...at least at my local store.

They can't stock any relevant shit.

  21. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/12/senator-introduces-bill-to-regulate-data-caps/ This is one of those "It's about time!" things. I'm glad that data caps are seriously going to be scrutinized by Congress, but they must also follow through with this, as I'm sure Comcast and the other giants of industry will line the pockets and campaign funds of various people this doesn't happen.
  22. Madman, now that you are a Bay Area man, it's high time you familiarized yourself with the best. http://www.amicis.com/default.asp
  23. Damn. Just had a Christmas potluck at work, and ALL of the food was actually good! Never had a potluck like that before. Ham, turkey, mash potatoes, gravy, rice pilaf, stuffing, lumpia, curry, chorizo-bean dip, chili, some chicken dish, teriyaki chicken balls, baklava, oreo chocolate truffles, banana cream pie, and shortbread cookies. Those are just the things I ate. Oh, I'm so friggin stuffed! I feel my fatness getting fatter. Ohhhhh....
  24. Lost my fantasy football league. Now I have to play for 3rd place. Fucking third place doesn't even win my money back!
