  1. Using Windows 8 release preview. Do I need to worry about metro apps running in the background or should I be closing them? I know in iOS you really shouldn't care about background apps, but I'm not sure how Windows does it.

Uh... i know I mentioned iOS but only because of the use of "apps". It's still windows but I was wondering if like "apps" on phones I should not be worried about them running in the background. Windows 8 is going to be used for tablets after all.

But yeah, windows 8 on a laptop.

  2. EDIT: This post has been edited so that it doesn't sound angry... I think it's kind of an elitist attitude. I think the reason it bothers them, is because suddenly other people are going to be able to beat the game that they think they tried so hard to beat and that they are actually a special bunch for having beaten the game. Though I also think that everybody feels this way about something and sometimes it just couldn't be avoided, because I know I've felt the same. As long as the original difficulty is called "Normal" then it should be of no concern. If someone else beats the game, you can go ahead and call them a pussy for not having to beat the game on "Normal" difficulty! Maybe because Dark Souls doesn't have anything going for it other than it's difficulty. Maybe it doesn't even have a decent story so there's really no point in going the easy mode and finishing the game. I haven't played it, but if it did have a good story, then I'm all for easy mode so people could experience it. The topic, though, is general difficulty. And to answer that: Yes! Difficulty Levels affect my enjoyment. Uncharted 3 was a perfect example for me. Since I beat Uncharted 2 on 2nd highest difficulty, and since I got near the end of the game on the highest (didn't finish it that time, lost interest) I thought I'll start Uncharted 3 on the most difficult setting (which I think is 2nd to highest since the highest is locked iirc). No problem, right? Basically the same game as the old one, I can beat that no problem. Yeah I could probably finish it, but you don't know how many times I died. Trying to run for cover, evading enemies who spawn behind you. The screen keeps turning to black and white while rolling to the next cover available. It was so frustrating. I couldn't enjoy the story at all since in between scenes I get killed a lot of times. So I switched it back to normal and oh it was really fun this time. Still died, but not as much, so I didn't get frustrated with the game and enjoyed the story a lot. The key thing to do is whatever the developer's "vision" of how the game should be played should be set as "Normal" difficulty. You could have Normal as the highest with Easy and Very Easy as choices, that's fine. Or Normal as the middle one, and as an additional challenge at Hard and Insane difficulty levels for those who get a rush of beating games at the highest difficulty settings.
  3. I saw the picture I haven't seen a card like this before! It looks weird! So the antennas stick out of the pack of your PC? won't that get in the way? It looks weird!
  4. NO! I'm only missing AC, I have everything on PC now... oh well... Not much story in it anyway...
  5. That's what I got from the vid though. I wasn't giving it 100% attention so I might have missed something, but I felt like he was describing an action/rpg type of game. What I got is: It's an action/rpg type game. Just read from excel's post above that it retains the Paradigm Shift system. Open, living world - The world driven concept (they said it doesn't exist on the internet???), i took that as an open world game, where everyone has a script on what to do if/when/whatever happens. Kinda like... Skyrim... but even more detailed. Also, it's not just the people. The world/environment lives too. So the city closes gates at night (trapping you, as they said on the video), transportation is on a set schedule, like train systems. Time limit! But not a hard time limit. You apparently can add more hours(?) or whatever by doing certain actions. BUT! All this is concept... I'm kinda excited... but I don't really understand what they're trying to do... Also... facebook. I don't know what they're trying to do there. I didn't understand what he was saying...
  6. Back to more mainstream comics... From reading X-Force vol. 3, I get the feeling that X-23's tracking abilities and senses are sharper than that of Wolverines (like how she seems to always assess situations correctly, and always asked for status reports)... So I wikied it and found out that that's not actually the case (this is what I originally thought, but the comic kinda changed my perception of how it was). I guess it's because Wolverine's too busy raging/arguing/telling people to shut up to actually pay attention to his surroundings. Seriously, he almost always tells someone to shut it whenever they get deployed somewhere. For a hit squad, they sure are chatty.
  7. Sleeping Dogs on GMG, 30% off using the voucher posted on their site. So it comes down to $35. GMG30-916H7-0TG16

From what I remember when I saw it with the directors they didn't really have any good for sympathy. They just wanted to have an interesting, focused story that follows the minds of the game developers more than it is about the games they are developing. It was a look at their daily struggles. This is why I always bring up that it makes them look human more than anything. They just seem like regular people who happen to be thrust into the public from time to time, or they do it themselves...

I would say the only real thing in there that really seemed like a grab for any sort of sympathy was Fish's "people say nasty things about me online" and "if I don't finish this game I'll kill myself" lines. The rest, I'll certianly agree on. Perhaps my dislike of the movie comes from my dislike of the games featured.

      MasterDex

But...but...Super Meat Boy! Say what you want about Fish but c'mon, as far as actual game design goes, Ed McMillan has an undeniable talent. Being able die as much as you do in SMB and continuing to feel that it's your own inadequacy is a great accomplishment.

    Apple

Ah. And as I admitted i didn't follow it that much so details where lost. However IMO the trial was really about samsung's attempt to copy ios. I don't think they would have come after samsung if all it had was pinch to zoom. Windows phones i haven't used them, but they have pinch to zoom too most likely. So i guess if they now go ahead and sue everyone else with pinch to zoom, i would be wrong. Maybe if samsung made touchwize like this, pinch to zoom would be a non issue for apple. http://www.intomobile.com/2012/06/18/frog-design-reimagines-android-sharps-newest-aquos-smartphone/

Yet if they sued others, given the evidence they presented, they wouldn't have any legs to stand on. It doesn't apply to the others.

    Apple

Why are the members of the jury being attacked here? Did they do something in the trial to show that they are stupid? Or are they just stupid because they "sided" with Apple? I've been following the case, admittedly not that much. But they seem to be normal people with some having tech background. I agree with what Duke said above. There are ways you can differentiate your product enough to not infringe. Apparently all other Android device does this so they're not part of the trial. It's not just about rounded rectangles. It's round rectangles plus everything else in the trial, the trade dress claims. You can make your rounded rectangle phones. Just don't copy the rest of (i hate to use this word because this is gonna annoy you guys) Apple's design. Let's not forget the "let's make it more like the iphone" sentiment in that 100 something page/slide evidence apple put out. The windows phones, while also rectangles can never be mistaken from an iphone because the interface is just so unique. And i don't think the steering wheel analogy works, Ethan. The steering wheel would be like the keypad on your phone. You use it to drive the phone to where you want it to go (call whoever). The stuff in the trial was just bells and whistles. They're not integral parts of a phone. And commenters, lets leave them out of this. There are just as much idiotic samsung/pro android commenters as pro apple ones. The verge comments are full of both. There are probably even more vile commenters on android sites just like in pro apple sites. That's just how it is. The internet gives every idiot a soapbox.
  12. I was going to post a video of the fight club but I fucked it up and it only rendered 1 minute of it, which is not enough to show you how the combat is. I figured you should really see how it works when fighting multiple enemies. Of course I could just pick a video out of youtube, but I wanted to show it how I see it. In the meantime, here's another cool feature i stumbled upon (the first cool feature was putting people in the trunk): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvViTuKVfEk
  13. I don't know about you... but everytime I get a virtual gun, I feel the need to shoot, unfortunately, innocent people. Shooting bad guys isn't exciting enough anymore. I racked up a kill streak of 10 on a sidewalk, which I'm always reminded of during hand to hand combat, as I could never beat it (without another gun, that is). I got enough cop levels to get a shotgun from police cars. Those thugs near the security cameras better get out of the way. I wonder if they'll draw guns too. I ran over a couple thugs using a car, and their backups bought their own cars and rammed mine. I managed to get 68 flying kicks in a fight.
  14. How come? Only 16:10 resolutions? pick one and extend the H/W manually? Actually I don't know if you can still do that on HDTVs.
  15. I wouldn't say I only did it once I once tried to put a cop in there, but I can't seem to grab them. They keep reversing me.
  16. The video is cool. I do something similar in the game, although I don't know if you'd call me a magician. I drive around Central. There's an area there with a bar or night club or some sort... I park my car. Step out of the vehicle and get some fresh air. Sometimes there's a cop walking in that area but I ignore him, he gets out of sight eventually. Then... I see... she's.. what was that about? I was just smiling at her. Look at her acting so smug, acting like I'm beneath her. Well... i'll show her... I walk up to her... I'm a bit clumsy so I bumped into her. She's furious now, shouting I should be careful. These american bitches in Hong Kong should know better than to act so high and mighty. I grab her. She's screaming now, but I put her in the trunk of my car. I think some people saw me. But I don't care. There's a dock up north of central. I drive there. There's a ramp that seems to exist only for people to drive their cars over it and into the ocean... The ocean will soothe her pain soon enough...
  17. Have we complained yet about the pc delay on this? I just found out earlier today. God damn it.
  18. Unfortunately, like a lot of the PS3's features, developers seem to give no thought to it whatsoever. Video recording, custom soundtracks, screenshots, and remote play. Sixaxis is a great feature being held back! I would say the sixaxis could be an awesome feature for games if they bothered, and i'm not talking about camera controls. Folklore had a great implementation of it. Taking the souls from the monsters and slamming them to the sides, then pulling on it. It really felt good doing that. If action games let you do that when you grab stuff, it would be awesome. Sorry about that but the sixaxis was one of the ps3's features that i'm so annoyed doesnt get used correctly, if at all... Anyway, been playing Sleeping Dogs and It's really great! The only problem is the camera, and people who use kb/m seems to experience the worst of it. But that's only when driving and minor issues when moving around. Good thing i have a controller. Melee is really fun. I kept replaying the fight clubs, because combat is just fun like in arkham.
  19. So Steam now says "Offline mode is used when you're about to unplug your laptop, or are otherwise expecting to not be connected to the internet.". Not sure when that started, but I guess that's one way of "fixing" the problem... :(

Well they just issued an update!!! hopefully this works perfectly now. Cool.

  20. I just finished watching Continuum... and boy I do hope they don't cancel this show. If they do, I hope they continue it on some other form... like a comic book series. Which reminds me, I have to go and rewatch Jericho and get on the comics. But I really do hope they make a season 2... I recommend you guys watch it. It's really entertaining. It's only 10 episodes so you won't waste much of your time if you find you don't like it.
  21. Sold my games on PS3 that I recently got on the Steam sale, and Ubisoft's recent one (AC!). Got double of what I bought the PC copies for, which was still pretty cheap. Could maybe have sold it higher but I wanted to get rid of it soon, and the buyer was pretty stoked he got it for cheap!

  22. So you'll front the $180, but we need to pay you first? Isn't the same? I'm probably missing something here. 1 copy always goes to you (kinda sucks when you want to treat 4 of your friends to a game you like on a sale).
  23. I can pay you now or anytime till release. Just let me know who to send it to (through paypal). Then I'll pm you once I sent it so you can check it.
  24. Yeah that's one of the things I like about it. Well, I just hope they handle it well moving forward. There's the obvious hero who you should feel sympathy for, who stands with the corporations (she's corporate police!). There's the terrorists who are against the corporations. Then minor spoilers:
