  1. Ah. Mr. GOH! and LittlePirate and Frosted Mini-Wheats don't have profile pages or aren't public, but they do work when you search for them via Add Friend on the steam friends list.
  2. Steam Wishlist iOS Wishlist What games do you like? What are your favorite genres? I like RPGs! JRPGs and Western RPGs. But lately, I haven't had the time to play a lot of those. On this genre, my favorite games would be FF-X, Vesperia, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, The Witcher, and Baldur's Gate. I like my RPGs to have drama, action-y, good story or any combination of those. I also like Action/Adventure games, namely the 3rd person ones, like Uncharted and Assassin's Creed. Open worlds appeal to me too. I also like platformers and/or brawlers. Especially on a portable. Lately though I've been gaming a lot on my iOS device, hence I put up a wishlist too, if you feel like it (iOS gifting guide!) You need iTunes and a credit card for this, iTunes balance from cards won't work for gifting . And pardon me but I have to mention, in case you are wondering if you could send a (US) gift card with the name of the app you wan't to gift instead, yes you can do that. Is there any game genre you aren't particularly fond of? I do not like stat-heavy games and games with lots of micro-management. Sports games and Strategy games. FPS are a hit or miss. Honestly, your wishlist sucks. I can find better games than that for you. That would be cool too! Though keep in mind the genres I don't like. Gifts are great!
  3. Strangelove, you might have to add more than 1 person just to hide who you're gifting. I just mentioned this since you said you don't check the thread much and might have overlooked this wonderful suggestion by P4, Thursday Next me.
  4. Is iOS App Store gifting allowed? EDIT2: I was thinking of receiving something from it, not that I'm planning to gift an app. So I guess that would depend on the person giving the gift, but I was asking since we only have GoG and Steam named so far on the rules. EDIT: Sorry for the double post! Is double posting even frowned upon here?
  5. I assure you, it wasn't me. I did sign up this year. Hurray!
  6. Galaxy on Fire 2. It's currently free on the app store (SD version, but it has retina support). It's a fun space sim?/shooter? You can upgrade your ship by buying new ships, new weapons, new equipments and armor. Each ship has a different number of slots for equipments and the usual stuff like improved stats etc. You can also mine for ore, do side missions (kill pirates, deliver stuff, look for stuff). The main mission is kinda cool too, i think. It's voiced, not that good though, but I think it works. It has iCloud support (though currently broken in an update), so you could play on both your phone on the go and in the iPad at home. Which I would really like to do but it's broken right now. OpenFeint cloud saves apparently works, but that service is about to die so no use using that now. Oh... and it's letterboxed on the 5 btw, . The HD version (below!) isn't. There's an HD version, usually at 9.99, but right now it's 4.99. The HD version has improved graphics for iPhone 5/new iPad, and I assume the later iPod touches and the 4s as well. According to toucharcade, it goes down to 0.99 every 2 months or so. It just did at the end of October, too bad I didn't know about it then. Oh well, I'm thinking it would go on sale again around Christmas. Man... I didn't even think I would be gaming a lot on my iPad and phone, but that's what's been happening lately. I even raided the free stuff and price drops last week, unfortunately I didn't find anything good.
  7. Exhibit A! A for Ashe. Or for Ass. I'm not complaining though.
  8. Say U, Say Wii. The song is still stuck in my head. I don't even know how the rest of that song goes. Thanks Kotaku! :|

  9. WHAT I looked it up, and apparently that's a workaround for the app store to reject buys from older devices (3GS, iPad 1 that don't have the camera) so to ensure apps run acceptably everywhere. I sure saw a few apps with warnings that say something like "iPhone 4 required", I wonder if this is a developer workaround or kind of an Apple mandated one. In any case, if it won't run smoothly, I guess it's the best you can do so you don't have to deal with complaints of the game not running / crashing, even though you put up a minimum required device on the description in capital letters. Cydia has iOS version restrictions, so no need for "dirty" workarounds like this. I wonder how it's done on the play store? It's easy to limit per Android version, but what about per device? I know I've read a few posts here saying they can't run some app on their device.
  10. Arc Squadron It's pretty cool. Controls are smooth. Drag anywhere on the screen and your ship will move to whichever direction you dragged to. Swipe and you do a barrel roll. Your machine guns auto-fire, just have to align it to your targets. There are secondary weapons where you need to tap the target, while being in range of whatever secondary weapon. It's $0.99, I haven't bought it yet, but there's a lite version you could try. There are normal stages and stages where you navigate through the environment, you can see them on the video. I have it on my watch list. Still have to finish some of the games I bought. But yeah, I think it's pretty cool.

    Apple

I noticed that too! While headlines still say they are selling out, they sure are worded differently (mentioning specific places etc. unlike just basically saying it sold out everywhere). Of course it may be because there's 3 new ipads (well, the old new ipad is still new). But I think that's just me putting a little spin on things. Also I mentioned Nexus 7 refresh. I remember reading about it being updated but looking at it now, it's just adding 3G i guess. Good that it's still not going to be as expensive (I think it's about a $100 more across the board). If the 16gb Wifi+3G model is the $299 one I'm reading about, then hell that looks really good.

    Apple

The iPhone 5 (and every iPhone before) competes with every top smartphone in the planet. With that price, it must be doing a shitty job, too. However, it still sells insanely well. That's just how Apple "competes". The mini wouldn't sell out if it's doing a shitty job. You might not like it, but that's just how it is. You may say, it's an "iPad of course it will sell well", or "blind fanboys are the reason it sells well". Well, no matter what the reason is, it's doing a perfectly fine job competing. I'm not a fanboy, I just really like Apple products (except the Mac!). I admit I cringe when I see Apple being mocked (like the youtube video above) because that's a product that I like. However I really don't mind it that much. On the other concern: They still are cutting edge, with the 4th gen iPad. It's not as innovative as when the first iPhone (or iPad, or iPod) was released, but still THE killer tablet. I think the iPad mini was just something to fill up a hole in their lineup. I don't really mind it's not innovative, though the way they're describing it feels like it should be able to do more. I admit they're kinda way over their head with that. However, the iPad 2 (which the mini's guts are made of) is still a very relevant device. While specs are for sure outdated, it can still compete head to head with the Nexus 7 (at least the benchmark scores say so). Of course when the Nexus 7 gets refreshed, that will change for sure. Edit: lots of spelling mistakes there...

    Ouya

Couldn't that be remedied by using the "PS" button to bring up a menu? EDIT: I'm assuming this is the Android buttons at the bottom which have no real effect on the game running, unless that is a thing on Android, being open and all.

    Windows 8

It's going to take a massive effort to move everyone on every field of work to move away from the desktop. It doesn't even seem like Metro would allow multiple windows of the same program, like Microsoft Word, to open and switch between. Before they kill the desktop, they would have to make sure Metro supports these use cases, otherwise we would be forced to switch to another OS. However, linux would never move to a metro-like interface. Macs probably won't either. DOS became obsolete because we have a better interface, and everyone agreed it was a better interface. I doubt that would be the case for Metro, seeing as the apps only seem to be good at content consumption, and not real work. With the state of Metro now, even if we get a lot of apps for Metro, the way the interface works just isn't enough for real work to occur. Maybe it's good for the people you work to just use iPads. But what about programming? Video editing work? Those would be a pain in the current state of Metro.
  18. I guess I'm confused. I know it's in quotation marks, but that's what we've been discussing all along. I guess I'm not saying "dead" dead, but rather dying. And we seem to agree it's not dying. We (well, apparently not me ) seem to be discussing how the tablet market is eating away at the console market, while also stating that the console market is fine.
  19. I think it'd be unfair to judge the console market based on the Wii U. It's a console too late into the game, while not being next gen. The competitors for this system is still the PS3 and the 360, which people already have. I'm actually just waiting for the news that says the Wii U is not selling as expected. Also, we seem to agree that the core gamers will stick to their consoles, while casuals are not going to bother. I know you guys are posting all these figures and statistics, I'm sorry that i'm not even bothering to read them, but I just find it silly calling the game console dead, when we can all clearly see that there is still, and there will be, a huge market for it, come next gen. Oh, and calling the AAA niche, I guess that's true. But gaming has been a niche hobby from the start. We'll just go back to being uncool come next gen, while all the cool people play on their Apples and Androids (and on their Ouyas).

I see. However I think you're over analyzing this, it's just a feature to refresh and reinstall windows, and a very welcome one at that. As I said, there are two modes, reset and refresh. The reason metro apps are kept is because of how they install and work. Desktop apps put all kinds of files all over the place it just can't be done. It would be suicide to kill desktop. There's so much you can do on Desktop mode, that even Microsoft should see it. Macs, their primary competitors, would retain the "windowed" approach and linux is getting popular. No matter how good they think Metro is, I just don't see them killing desktop. But then again, there were issues about dev tools few months back, about visual studio i think not being able to make win32 apps without a license or something like that, only metro apps.
