    Windows 8

Anyone here using Windows 8 (well I know some of you who do)? My laptop seems to crash often, and it only started happening, AFAIK, after installing Windows 8 Release Preview. Now, I know it's release preview and I should expect this, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has been having crashes/freezes. As for Win 8. It's pretty good, I think. I like the Start page, as I can pin all my apps and shortcuts in there, and not have my taskbar cluttered or on the desktop. I'm still not sold on the Metro apps though, as there doesn't seem to be good apps yet in the store. So yeah, I'm spending all my time on the desktop for now. But yeah, anybody else experience odd number of crashes? Mine does crash multiple times a week. I think 1 of 3 times I use my laptop, it does crash... Maybe it's just hardware/driver incompatibilities...

But there already was an agreed standard for it, looks like. You still don't want it? It should have settled the matter because your complaint was lack of standard. But there already was one. WP7 works now. Android's not yet based on your post. If it had worked fine on your phone, you wouldn't be complaining about it. Unfortunately, it isn't done yet, looks like, so you can still complain, right? Your previous posts STILL criticize Apple for lack of standards on this thing specific thing, even though they did the right thing by "resolving" the thing with emojis already by talking with the othes to come up with a standard. This is why I view you as I do. You still think this is a bad thing by saying it shouldn't exist. What would it take for you to accept this, because the presence of a standard doesn't seem to make you content, even though it not being standard was the point of your post. Now. You've said your piece and defended yourself on being called a hater. I appreciate that. I won't get into the black bars thing as this will never end, but i just want to say that yes, it's kinda sad thing to complain about when those apps will get updated soon anyway, and at least it doesn't break compatibility with the new phone. The ios maps i agree with you was kinda a halfassed move, but i don't agree with you lumping the two together as being of the same weight with regards to apple issues so no, i wouldn't call those haters. They're just voicing their concerns on a half baked map. I don't use maps often so it's fine for me, but if i did use it extensively i would be complaining too. Losing directions is a lot lot lot worse than having black bars on your app (for a time). I've said my piece. To summarize, i don't really see you cutting Apple some slack on things that i think you should have done already, hence i see you as a hater. But hey, you got your opinions and i got mine. I really don't want to drag this out again so i really really hope we can stop now.

Actually "(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻" is entirely standard and acceptable. Notice how it will display correctly on any device that uses the standard character set? That's actually the exact opposite of the problem with emoji. Oh yes. I'm aware of that. I was just being... What's the word... I want to say annoying but there could be a better word for that. And yes, this is just about emoticons. Which is what I said before, trivial bullshit. Too bad Dean was away and couldn't reply to me before others stepped in, so now we have this. As I said, he probably didn't hate it as much as I think he did. But based on his recent Apple posts, especially on the black bars thing, and on his 2nd post about the topic at hand, i assumed the worst. If there is anyone here with, forgive me, blind hatred for Apple, i would say it's him. That's how I view it, sorry. So nitpicking on that small thing was what annoyed me so much and prompted me to comment. Now that we know that he's "cool" with it, and especially now that Android and WP7 actually supports emoji even before he posted that, we can all move on. I can. I don't really wanna reply anymore, after posting that bit about WP7 and Android support, because that should have settled everything.

Does emoji have a "guy flipping table" animation? I guess not. They probably don't do that in Japan, they're too polite. You should have used this instead , standards and all... Don't want to upset you know who with your non-standard unsupported emoticon.

It looks like WP7 supports Emoji and is compatible with iOS. Also as FDS said, 4.1 Android does too, and from what I read that's true. So we aren't really arguing about anything as it is supported everywhere. Except twitter. Maybe twitter should go ahead and adopt it, seeing as they are pretty much SMS anyway.

I mentioned Android because that was mentioned in previous posts. What I really want to say is everyone, including windows phone and others like rim or whatever. My bad. I assume you meant can't on your 2nd paragraph. Let's not get into the group message thing, we are talking only about those smileys. See, to answer your question again, it's a trivial thing. I mean people don't write sentences in emoji. And not everyone uses it. As i said, this is just an enhancement for iOS users. So i don't see anything really wrong with it. And again, when i say holding back , it was more of a rhetorical question. Because the way i saw the conversation going is that, ok, this is not a standard thing. We know that. What should w do? Let's just implement it and not care about the competition. Or not implement it at all? That's why i mentioned holding back. It's a feature users want. Apple gave it to them. It's as simple as that. The fact that it's not a standard is not important right now. As you said , there are two other variants. It just so happens that Apple picked this one, and based on fuchi's post, it made sense. The issue i really have about this complaint is Dean making it something like a huge Apple flaw, when it is really not. It's missing smileys that wouldn't even be there if Apple has not added the feature. Now, it looks like the problem is not that Apple is using non-standard smileys. It's that there's no standard emoji to begin with. Which for me is a very trivial thing.

Because it's trivial bullshit, that's why. Fuck yeah, emoticons. Get angry. I never said i don't want this to be universally adopted. Apple is doing it this way. Android doesn't even have emoji. And now Apple needs to change their ways so that Android can get in on the fun, because it's difficult to do it in Android? Why don't they just do it so that it gets unversally adopted? My point is that it's just an iOS feature. Why drop it if others can't support it? It's not like they're losing anything. Yes it's part of SMS. But it's not an integral part. It's just an enhancement, for iOS users to enjoy. It's there because iOS users want it, they even expanded it on iOS6 i think. Why hold back on something that makes your phone fun to use just because others cannot or will not find the time to implement it? Hey, if you're really bothered by lack of emoticon standardization why don't you make a petition? I'll sign it with you. Not really.

See, if Apple used a different NFC tech that is incompatible with the one being used on Windows phones or Android phones, then that is a bad thing. This is not. Microsoft Outlook supports a smiley face on html emails. Just type a colon and closing parenthesis and it converts it to a smiley. Reading that mail on thunderbird, what you'll see is a "J". Yahoo messenger supports audibles. And is only played on other yahoo messenger clients. I had a Samsung dumbphone that supported smileys but it didn't display correctly on my Sony Ericsson phone. Apple wanted to support emoji for Japan because Japan wanted emoji. Not all your features have to be standard. You want to read what that is? Get an iphone. It has that feature. Ask twitter to support emoji. Ask google to add emoji support to Android. A quick search shows Android can actually support this feature by installing what i assume to be an app or plugin. Download that. This "issue" should not be lumped to the Apple doesn't use standard tech/features list of complaints.

Sound like too much nitpicking to me, honestly. They had a good reason to add it for Japan. And people seem to want itvoutside of japan, so they added it, it was already there anyway. It's not like they went out of their way to add a non-standard feature because they're apple, like you seem to be implying... You probably don't hate it as much as i think you do. But your 2nd post feels like nitpicking... Oh well...
  10. Bought Borderlands 2 again for a friend! He's gonna pay me though. Damn I'm never buying Day 1 again. BL2 is like half off there and it's not even 2 weeks old. Not even a week old!

Hurray for PS3 players getting the first game! You think you'll see MS studios in the splash screen? Who's porting it?

Interesting that this isn't coming to the Wii U. Since it's coming out early November, you'd think it'd be a better release on a new console than just the Mass Effect 3.

Oh and ME1 will be standalone on PSN.

      TheFlyingGerbil

TCP, it says the 1st one will be released as a standalone game on the PSN. So that's cool for you. I'm guessing it would majorly cannibalise ME3 if they released it on Wii U so you wouldn't see it on there for a good while if at all

  11. "You sir, are a dick." It's not that hard. "Calm down." Yo.
  12. I'm probably alone in this... "When done right, ..." The very definition of a pet peeve. There's nothing wrong with it. It just annoys me so much because it's such a safe answer. I'd rather know people's biases. Do you like x or not? Take a stand! That, plus the fact that everything "done right" would be good and everyone would like it. And that "done right" is different for everyone. It's too subjective.
  13. Got DXHR too, from intkeys. Activated it through my VPN cause it was a russian key. I posted where Dean posted too before on that thread. It's ok. No complaints really and I only bought once so I can't say anything more, just that there were no problems and the game is still working fine today... which reminds me I should actually play it... Also, great find Dean. This is the cheapest this game will get until next year. Actually even cheaper because on the summer sale it'll probably be $35 given recent prices of year-old games.
  14. http://www.giantbomb.com/news/psn-to-offer-retail-games-cheaper-on-day-one/4386/ It's better than Live's strategy for sure, but you already paid them $60 for the Plus membership... And then you still have to pre-order, which is negligible I guess, since you're buying day one anyway. I just feel it should be 49.99 digital for 59.99 titles, like most new steam games. I'm not basing that on anything at all so if there's any arguments for just having 10% discount I'd be happy to hear it and be even happier about this move.
  15. Exactly what i thought when i watched it. I did get as far as almost ending season 3. I stopped watching for some reason i can't remember, but when season 4 was out i had an inkling to watch it. I didn't though, mainly because it i remember it got boring most of the time.

Because it wasn't allowed before iOS5 (iOS 4 didn't have it, and Camera+ was removed from the store for doing this). Then as part of iOS 5 (innovation!) they added support for that for the native camera. Then Camera+ added it back. I like iOS and Apple but I admit they do some ridiculous things like that! EDIT: oh... fuchi already said that... but there you go. You might be thinking of Camera+.
  17. Time for some dancey-pop! Had this on repeat the whole day. http://soundcloud.com/teganandsara/closer If the new album sounds similar I will be very happy! (It kinda sounds like their song with Tiesto, or Tiesto's "song" featuring them, which I also had on repeat around 2 years ago i think along with another pop song I don't want to admit listening too!).
  18. Obviously I won't get it if it's about minecraft... but I would like to know what it's about? The youtube description is not helping... EDIT: I might have been confused... is the video not about minecraft? Is it just a gun with an annoying sound?

At least they're not both smartphones... but yeah. They probably intended to copy that exactly (like a "Hey! That's a cool iconic clock!"). I think that's what they did with the podcast app. There was an article about that looking like a piece of vintage classic hardware. Probably didn't do diligence on checking if it was actually trademarked or whatever. While I won't agree that Steve Jobs would let the "dated" iOS slide (I think that he will be perfectly fine with how iOS is right now), I do think that he won't let this Maps abomination slide. For iPhone 4 users (like me!), it's all bad, since turn by turn and flyover is not even there. So there's no plus side to using that map. What the hell were they thinking of replacing the Maps app for countries that don't even have map data available??? I wonder who gave the go signal on that one... Google maps coming to iPhone would be great. I wonder if it'll have it's own turn by turn? Well I hope Google makes it on par with the Android app, since apparently it's a very good map app.
  20. Yes that's what it is, but the point is, after reading the article, suddenly that kind of TV magic ain't too bad! It may actually be possible to do, compared to before where he doesn't confirm the bluetooth connection on the victim's phone. Maybe next season Reese would have an Android, and actually use NFC to hack into other people's devices, instead of bluetooth.
  21. In the show Person of Interest, Reese hacks phones by pairing on what I assume to be bluetooth but I'm not sure because of the distance he has from his target. He uses an iPhone though so NFC is out. Reading this, it's cool that you could really do something like that, without even touching the other person's device (granted the security flaw is there). It makes it really cool because it makes that crap they do on TV possible!
  22. Listening to the whole album, but this one's my favorite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QjzrWE0OTI
  23. Was the fallout style ending from EE too?
