That's not nearly the same thing that I'm talking about. You had, what, six or seven plays to make in sports games twenty years ago? The moves and gameplay has changed since then. When I talk about ATB, I'm talking about what ever guy decided little scrolling blue timer bars and the "ATTACK MAGIC ITEM" menu system was all that needed to be done for JRPGs. THAT hasn't changed in thirty years. Where would we be if every NA RPG had Baldur's Gate UI and gameplay still? This.

on ATB: The whole turn based RPG style of combat from classical JRPGs should die completely. No need for it anymore. Back to Bethesda vs. Borderlands: I understand the freedom that Bethesda gives you and while I think that's a plus the fact that the game literally punishes you for leveling up, well, I find that insufferable. Additionally I never felt like I didn't have enough freedom in borderlands.

I just got Borderlands and I was trying to figure out why I liked it so much more than Fallout or Oblivion since they're very similar. I think that the biggest difference is that in Borderlands the enemies don't change their levels. The levels are based on the area you're in. It's very similar to an MMO in that respect. Fallout lets you go in any direction you want and does that by making the enemies just level along side you. I really don't like that because it seems like leveling only makes the game harder. I think that Bethesda really should abandon the old system and move to a Borderlands/WoW style of fixed enemy levels.

I've started categorizing my steam games list by "completed" "need to finish" and "not started yet"

My Backlog has grown fast over the last month. I recently bought a ton of games on there and can't catch up. Aliens vs. Predator Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars Command and Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight Dragon Age: Origins Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening Empire: Total War FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage Grand Theft Auto IV Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City Just Cause 2 Napoleon: Total War SimCity 4 Deluxe Tropico 3 - Steam Special Edition This list only includes the games in my account I still intend to finish. I also have Crysis 2 to finish.

I played Pilotwings Resort on my lunch break yesterday. I thought it was pretty cool. Turning the 3D up to the max hurt my eyes a bit but it was definitely a good showcase for the 3D. I still don't think the 3D is a selling point though. I'll get one if there are a bunch of good games that get released for it but otherwise I'll pass.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/03/29/crysis-2-technical-analysis/ That made me LOL a bit. PC gamers sure know how to get their panties in a wad. Troll FTW.

Black ops for some reason runs much better on a quad core pc than a dual core. It's one of the few PC games that is that way and I'm not sure why.

My first CD was Tonic, Lemon Parade. I had Weird Al cassettes before that.

Comparison video is up. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/graphics-comparison-crysis-2/712179 Looks surprisingly good on the consoles. (whoa, auto embedding, nice.)

Yeah, I usually sort by artist and then listen to albums. I don't usually like to listen to individual songs.

I'm sad I missed the 3D conversation. I agree with Ethan that it's just another tool that can be used by filmmakers as well as abused by filmmakers. Any time there's a new tool available people don't know what works and what doesn't and there is a certain amount of experimentation involved. I think 3D will continue to be utilized and it can be one more tool in the filmmakers kit to express whatever ideas or feelings he would like to. To imply that 3D is a gimmick doesn't exactly make sense to me.

The rules in Inception were explained but the machine and tech behind it weren't so much. The bit about falling into limbo if you get killed also didn't make a ton of sense but I can see why the movie needed it to create tension. I also don't quite get how killing yourself takes you to limbo but then killing yourself in limbo wakes you up. It's all a bit contrived.

Why are there so few 120Hz monitors these days? It's more or less standard for HDTV.

I'm probably gonna need to go to quakecon this year. It's always in-town for me but I never bother to go. I need to get some swag anyway.

So many movies I didn't realize were done by Nolan. I loved Memento. I didn't much care for insomina. I didn't realize he did the Prestige which I though was okay but strange. I did love Inception but it walked that fine line between being confusing without just not making sense. It wasn't like Minority Report which was completely ruined by glaring paradoxes. Sure there are some things unexplained in Inception but I think they did that on purpose in order to create a fun movie.

Funny you should say that. I ran into an old friend of mine on my way back from class this afternoon. We started talking and turns out he has like three friends currently working at Eidos Montreal, which is where Human Revolution is being developed. All hree of them are testers, but still. Now I feel like I should've asked about it You fail for not asking. Go back and ask if it's any good. I must know!
-
So we need an insider at Eidos. Is there any possible way that Human Revolution will not be a letdown to fans of the original? I so desperately want this game to be awesome.

You know, for all the buzz surrounding the hardware I haven't heard too much about the games. I don't see myself getting a 3DS just yet but if the games end up being good I might jump in. I eventually got a DS but even 5 years down the line I don't feel like there's a great wealth of games to choose from.
-
That's fair. It was still fun.

boxed copies of steamworks games are only good because you don't have to wait for the game to download which can take a while for some bigger games. I was kinda pissed when Supreme Commander 2 only shipped with half the game on the disc and the other half had to download. That was truly pointless.
-
The problem is that Steam already created windows live for the PC. I don't see MS cutting into steams user base anytime soon.

No! Over the years, I've come to realize that I've been wrong about everything in my life, and I draw the line here! This time, I'm not changing. I'm an American, damnit! I'm pretty sure the Bill of Rights includes a right to be willfully ignorant! Goddamndibly blinding light of information! I'm going back to Plato's metaphorical cave! I was so sad when I heard Ryu was "re-you" and not "rye-ooo".

Agreed. This game should scratch the RDR2 itch while being a relatively novel experience. I can't wait.
