  1. Yeah, I've read that literally anything you can do to decrease the amount of time between deciding to work out and actually starting significantly increases the likelihood that you'll do it. IIRC it was like every five minutes you save doubles the likelihood you'll actually do it.
  2. Well at the beginning I went full on retarded, forgot to do the thing at my starting place that I needed to do, flew to another planet, realized I'd forgotten and flew back to the starting place, forgetting to do the thing I flew to the second planet for... I seriously wasted like 5 turns and several things of fuel doing that. Really though I think the thing that screwed me was horrible luck with the Nav cards (througout the whole game, not just there at the end) and dice rolls. I don't think I rolled anything higher than a 2 the whole damn time. We played again and it took less than half as long. I won this time. We're going to try one of the "real" scenarios tomorrow. I think with the beginner one it's a small enough amount of money that it's easy for one little stroke of good or bad luck to really change the outcome of the game. This second time I did a job that paid $3,000, which is half of the amount you're trying to get. Yeah, I read your guide this morning, and I found it extremely helpful. I think it gave a much better idea of some of the nuances of how the rules play out than you would get from just reading the rulebook. And yeah, neither of us had ever played before, so there was a lot of agonizing over what to do, and checking the rules to see how things are supposed to work, etc.
  3. So I played the First Time in the Captain's Chair Firefly story card with my wife today, and loved it. The scenario is that you borrowed money from Niska to buy your ship, and you have to get solid with two contacts and then save up $6,000 to pay him back. Between getting everything out and going over the rules and then actually playing it took us about 3 hours. My wife played super cautious, moseying about and not carrying contraband or anything, while I was fully burning back and forth across both Alliance and Reaver space. She had a lot more money for most of the game, because she wasn't hiring crew, buying equipment or burning up fuel money like I was, but my more aggressive strategy meant that toward the end I was able to do a couple high paying jobs and catch back up. She ended up getting back to Niska to pay him off two turns before me (I was so close that I went ahead and finished up even after she'd won). It would have been closer, we both finished our last jobs and started heading back on the same turn, but I got unlucky with a couple of Nav cards and she drew nothing but open space, plus her final job was closer to Niska than mine was anyway. I wanted to go again right away, but she thought she needed a break (TWSS!). I'm trying to convince her to play another tonight.
  4. It would make sense to adopt some of the aesthetic though.
  5. What does the "3 @ 4 or less" mean on the heavy bombers' attack stat? I think I've figured out the rest of the unit sheet.
  6. Woo, I have the highest kill count and I haven't even gone yet!
  7. Yeah, I'm actually fairly sure I had cable in 2001. We would have only just recently gotten it though.
  8. Naval combat is my favorite part, which is why I wanted to be either the USA or Japan.
  9. Ooh, 5.6MB, that's going to take forever to download in 2001 where I live. If only I had sprung for that 56k...
  10. @Hot_Heart: Has your newbie guide for Firefly The Game been posted anywhere? I'm getting the game tonight and wouldn't mind looking it over.
  11. Normally I'd say that's the better way to do it. I mean sure, if you have some kind of bad reaction to a specific drug or category of drugs then it might be good to ask for an alternative, but otherwise let the doctor do their job.
  12. Is your main PC hooked up to the TV?
  13. I thought it was the opposite, that it used to be in its own division and they recently merged it into Entertainment and Devices.
  14. UK porn filter is blocking a LoL update because of 2 files: XerathMageChainsExtended.luaobj VarusExpirationTimer.luaobj
  15. Nice. For some reason I'd gotten the impression you could only stream to SteamOS, but I couldn't actually find anything confirming it. Glad I was wrong.
  16. Do you have to have Steam OS on the client machine, or can you do it with the regular Steam client?
  17. What's your gfx card? I'm curious if mine could handle it.
  18. Well short of them being literally identical one console is always going to be more powerful than the other(s). Gen 7 it was the PS3 (though due to the architecture it took a long time for that to have any practical benefits), Gen 6 it was the Xbox, etc.
  19. I will say I love Windows 8 on my step-dad's convertible laptop/tablet. It's very nice for touch interface. Way better than Windows 7 touch.
  20. Hmm, around here they're common enough that it's just like "Oh look, a coyote." I mean you're not normally going to see one in a business district, but in residential areas toward the outside of town it wouldn't be that weird. Ever so slightly related: on Halloween my aunt and uncle who live in the country came into town to hand out candy at my parents' house, and my uncle brought his coyote call and hid it in the bushes by the front walk. Every time someone walked by he'd hit the button and it'd make this really loud, high pitched howl/whine and scare the crap out of them. It was hilarious.
  21. Is it really news out there to see a coyote? Honest question.
  22. That's how 2 plays too. Awesome. Too bad they crapped up 3 so bad.
