I dunno, I think our oversaturation with entertainment has led to the mental equivalent of a full pantry with nothing to eat. I can't count the number of times I've spent an hour or so flipping through Netflix or idly browsing the internet, bored out of my skull because nothing sounds good to watch or interesting to read.

Re: mass murderer, I agree. I'm hoping Uncharted 4 takes a cue from The Last of Us and has more stealth. The traversal and exploration has always been my favorite part of Uncharted, and the massive hoards of enemies have always just seemed like a barrier to the fun parts. Though I'll admit the combat got better as the series went on.

Yeah, I don't really understand why they didn't want to use the triggers. Supposedly people's fingers slip off, but I've never had a problem like that. I thought in U2 you could change the setting to the triggers though?

DRM, Online Pass, Project Ten Dollar and the like
TheMightyEthan replied to Yantelope's topic in General Gaming Chat
Yeah, I agree for me personally that they're fair game for piracy now, but I could at least entertain an argument that it would be wrong, it's a very light shade of grey. For people who paid money for it though, if they were cut off from their purchase then I would say there's not even a slightly grey tinge to them pirating it. -
$12.99 on Amazon, plus it's cross-buy. I really wanted the Vita version, but the PS3 version with the Vita version was cheaper than the Vita version alone.

DRM, Online Pass, Project Ten Dollar and the like

Yeah, I think it's Disney shutting down all the stuff that wasn't made by them. *Edit* - If they were removed to the extent you couldn't redownload it even if you'd already purchased it, then I'd say that's free license to pirate it with a clean conscience. -

I just read it as it's removed from the store. -

What does that have to do with digital ownership? It's not removing it from the accounts of people who bought it, is it? -
Started Splinter Cell: Blacklist today. I really like what they've done with the gameplay. It's too bad the side missions don't have any checkpoints so if you screw up you have to restart the whole thing.

Didn't Chewie do something similar to this this summer, and then never follow through?
-
Yeah, I count it as long as they've done anything beyond a straight port.

It's not a new rule, people just have been ignoring it. http://forum.pressxordie.com/topic/481-games-youve-beat-in-2011/

Posting pretty pictures spices up the thread, but dean has requested that you also include the name of the game in text to make his year-end recap easier. Also, only games that you haven't beat before count. Including a brief overview of your thoughts on the game can also get discussion about it going, making this more than just a list of game titles. Get to it!

Backlog and Games I've Beat. I've also got the blank ones ready to go for this year, but I figure the filled-in ones will be more helpful for others to figure out the formatting.
-
I like graphs.
-
I kept track of it all in a spreadsheet throughout the year. I did last year too.
-
As far as my backlog goes, I started out with 20 games, added 21 throughout the year, and removed 34 of them (whether because I finished them or lost interest), for a total of 7 remaining at the start of this year. The length of time a game was on my backlog before removal was not quite 6 months, with the median being just 1.5 months. Just like with the games I beat, I've got some quite old games dragging the average up, like The Witcher and Bioshock. My average playtime before removing a game from my backlog was 11.6 hours, with the median being just 5.5 hours. There are some short games in there bringing it down, but also some games I just lost interest in very quickly. Notables are Alpha Protocol, which I only played for 1 hour, Transformers: War for Cybertron, which I only played for 1.3 hours, and New Super Luigi U, which I only played for 0.4 hours. Backlog going into 2014 is: The Witcher 2, PC, added 12/24/2011 Dark Souls, PC, added 10/28/2012 Far Cry 3, PC, added 12/4/2012 Sleeping Dogs, PC, added 12/25/2012 Splinter Cell: Blacklist, PC, added 12/22/2013 Gnomoria, PC, added 12/24/2013 Long Live the Queen, PC, added 12/29/2013 The average length of time a game has been on my backlog right now is 9.3 months, with the median being at 12.3. This time the average is actually being dragged down by the last three games, which I just got in the last week or so. *Edit* - It just occurred to me that all but one of those games (Dark Souls) I got during a Steam Christmas Sale.
-
Average hours is skewed way high on the DS, because the only game I beat for that is Pokemon White. The game I put the most time into is Kingdoms of Amalur on the PC at 86.2 hours. PC is also obviously my most prolific platform, though in terms of Games per Month the PS4 is almost as high since I only had it for a month and a half. Overall, of all the games I beat, I spent an average of 18.4 hours per game, for a total of 645 hours. That does not include games I played but did not finish. The average age of a game when I beat it was 261 days or 8.6 months. Obviously I've got some old games dragging that upward, like Bioshock which was almost 6 years old, and Bioshock 2 which was more than 3. The median age is 63 days, or just over two months.

Yeah, it's really just the Vita tutorial.
-
Actually, that's one thing I will agree with: that game had great music. *Edit* - Can I just nominate all of the shanties from AC4?
-
Yeah, I'm going to put up all my charts again too, but I'm waiting because there's still a half a chance that I'll beat something tonight.

This one cracks me up. I actually do keep all that kind of thing backed up on multiple drives in my computer, but the whole thing could still be fried, or my house could burn down or something. I keep important documents/pictures/etc in a Google Drive folder, but there's not enough space for a whole lot of actual program installers or that kind of thing.
-
Actually, Steam for me for that reason (or any store with an account that lets me redownload things at my leisure). I'm a lot more confident in Valve's ability to keep track of my install files than I am in my own ability to do so. I don't want to pay for a limited-time download of an installer only to lose track of it or have my HDDs die or something.
-
Yeah, I tend to hoard my games on my drive because where I live storage is cheaper than bandwidth.
