I'm sorry, I'm confusing the overall timespan of the move with the period of time they spent training at the mansion. (I mean, obviously I knew the scenes with them as kids weren't within 2 weeks of the end, but the rest of it). Regardless, I still feel like they tried to cram too much into the movie, and it doesn't work very well imo. *Edit* - And to elaborate on what I mean about the final act, I felt like the conflict with the two fleets was really poorly handled. How they're just like "oh, thanks for not nuking us, now let's team up, to waste these people who are actually working for us, because that totally makes sense!"
-
And I think it would have done so without needing Magneto to turn. Why did everything of importance in their lives have to happen in this 2 week period? It just seems contrived.
-
Also, "men aren't women" is not an excuse to be completely oblivious, insensitive fuckwits. "How can I be expected to consider the point of view of anyone other than myself? That's MADNESS!" *Edit* - ALSO, putting aside the other reasons why Cosmo is a bad comparison (the whole magazine industry isn't dominated by that viewpoint, for one), prejudice is simply worse when it comes from a position of privilege. Negative stereotyping of men is not nearly as harmful because men are dominant in our culture, in terms of business and politics and whatnot, so they don't suffer as a result, it's just a joke. Negative stereotyping of women, on the other hand, serves to perpetuate that male dominance. It's the same is true of any demographic you can come up with where one segment is privileged and the other is disadvantaged; race, sexual orientation, whatever.

It's not that that would have been cooler, it's that the way they did it felt so rushed. "We have to get in ALL THE BACKSTORY!!!!11" I feel like the story would have worked better if Magneto didn't turn against them until the second movie.
-
"If women want to change how they're portrayed in videogames then they need to step up and start making videogames." Wow... I just don't even know how to respond to that... *Edit* - Oh, it's Maddox. That explains it. I didn't even know he was still around.
-
Thank you, now I'm okay with them becoming such deep and lasting friends so fast. I still would have liked it better if they had been allies longer before becoming ideological enemies though. And I still feel like the wrapped all the backstory up in too neat a bow.

It felt to me like a really hamfisted way of showing the audience what everyone's powers were, and not natural in the slightest. Oh well, opinions.

Yes, this is why I'm torn about Anonymous: I agree with a lot of the stuff they do (or at least the side they're on, if not necessarily their methods), but then sometimes they do shit and I'm like "fuckin seriously guys?" Though I know that's an inevitable result of them being just a loose association of people who choose to self-identify as part of Anonymous, rather than any kind of organized entity with a central command structure.

Oh come one, it's not cheesy? What the hell was that "let's show off all our powers in this government hideout" scene then? Shit makes me cringe. And again, the whole final act is just silly. Like, not that it's ridiculous compared to the real world, but that it's presented in a silly fashion which clashes with most of the rest of the movie.
-
Yeah, I've got one who side of the family who's all "we know guys in the government, and they're doing [X completely insane thing]." Kinda poisoned me to that claim. "There was a full-scale Muslim terrorist invasion of New Orleans under the cover of Katrina! They had marines defending oil refineries against waves and waves of them!" Riiiiiiiight...

I think that's due to its coming at the end of the sentence, not the word itself. *Edit* - I live right in the middle of the red "I have no term for this" category on the sunshower one, but I've definitely heard that term used before, and that's what I call it when it happens.

Oculus Rift support is being integrated into Unreal Engine 4. That should go a long way toward getting this thing more support.
-
Here's me saying the following sentence: "I'm going to marry my true love Mary, and the thought makes me quite merry." As you can see there's no difference in pronunciation.
-
I agree wholeheartedly with that, which is why part of the point of the discussion is to change the minds of consumers so that it will start to have an impact on the bottom line and the companies will change their practices. Though I also completely understand that going about it in the wrong way can actually alienate people from your cause and do more harm than good.
-
"There's a market for it" is just an explanation though, not a defense. The idea though is that if we discuss it enough maybe enough people will come around to the point of view that maybe women shouldn't be treated as nothing more than eye candy that the developers will realize they're alienating more customers than they're gaining. To be extra super trite: Be the change you want to see in the world.
-
The way you say "merry" is the way I would say all three.

This is really the only thing about the Xbone that bothers me much now that they've clarified some stuff. The other restrictions just don't impact my usage patterns much at all, and are basically no different than the PC restrictions I already put up with (other than the 24 hours thing, but even with that I can't remember the last time I was without internet for more than 24 hours, except when I moved into my new house). Though I, for one, have 0 faith that MS would unlock everything before a server shutdown. *Edit* - Damnit, I keep forgetting that Kinect is required. That's a really huge negative for me. *Edit 2* - Although this is somewhat promising:

I realize that people around New York refer to it as just "The City", but only because of shows like Seinfeld and How I Met Your Mother. Otherwise "the city" just refers to whatever major city I happen to be in/just outside of. *Edit* - Also, I don't understand what the difference between "cray-ahn" and "cray-awn" is, other than spelling. And if anyone here is in the category that knows the difference in pronunciation between Mary, marry, and merry could you please explain what it is?
-
This. Having an overly sexualized character from time to time is not a problem, but when it's the majority of them it contributes to this overall societal attitude that the only thing women are good for is decoration. That attitude is a problem.

I honestly don't understand why First Class is supposed to be so good. The best I can say about it was that it was fine. It was better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine. If I treat it in my head as a reboot rather than a prequel that fixes some of my problems with it (mostly the continuity errors), but still the whole final act is just silly. That's where it lost me when I watched it again recently. And the fact that the whole thing takes place over two weeks. 6 months would have been much more natural-feeling.

It means that all games that are registered to your account, even your purchased-in-store, on-disc games, can be downloaded by you to be played on any Xbone. That is how it currently works with downloadable stuff on 360, the difference here being that it's all Xbone content.
-
Well on Xbone they don't need the online pass because MS built it into the console, but if you take the statement at face value the passes won't be on PS4 either. *Edit* - And I think the fact that they retroactively removed the passes from existing games is a good reason to take it at face value.
-
It is something that should be fixed... by them choosing not to do it anymore... because it's bad to degrade an entire segment of society...
-
"You can't call my opinion stupid! Or say I shouldn't express it! That's censorship! Free speech!"
-
Is there any information you're at liberty to tell us about how EA is betting on Xbone? I know at the conference they said they have a special partnership, but then they just showed a bunch of games that will be on PS4 too.
