  1. Problem with stuff like Fable is that it's utterly redundant when compared to the myriad other easy ways of playing other parts of the game. (Actually I think it's the games strong suit) I second adjustable markets though. Not sure how much of a PITA it is to code into a game though. We played Freelancer over LAN back in first year, and it kinda fell apart once optimum trade routes were established. Changing markets would have added much more replayability to the game (There's likely a mod, but would be 6 years too late)
  2. Well Tennants biggest role pre-Who would be Casanova mini-series Matt Smith pre-Who had been in Secret Diary of a Call Girl with Billie Piper (as mentioned a few pages back), but was pretty unknown. Which generally means if it's an actor you can pull off the top of your head, it's likely not the actor they'll be using.
  3. Assuming it's $100 for Windows 8 as well (I think the early bird program ended a while ago now), might as well go with Windows 7 which is exactly like Windows 7 over Windows 8 which is "pretty much going to be like 7". Then you know all your programs, and drivers, and games all work fine too. And also not hedging your bets on if Windows 8.1 will improve the situation or not (since it's still early days on details/news on it, and no preview yet so far).
  4. Gotta say, when they came out saying the game was declined by several publishers already I kinda figured it'd likely be a bit of a stinker. (cos like hell is the only reason other publishers would decline it being that it has a female protagonist).
  5. Yeah I'm thinking Rupert Grint would be good, would match the whole "I want to be Ginger" thing. Rupert as a person seems like he'd be a neat fit too. Cumberbatch is Sherlock, so that'd be a big no I think on him being The Doctor.
  6. Still got the 50th n Xmas special to go.
  7. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/articles/Matt-Smith-to-leave-Doctor-Who Matt Smith is to leave on the Xmas special.
  8. Backers aren't the only sales a game would see. From a publishers viewpoint it'd be matching dollar for dollar on a game idea with an already established fanbase and marketing, and half the budget covered up front (so less risk for them than accepting a pitch directly). For the developers it means being able to double their kickstarter income and make twice the game purely kickstarting would allow for. I swear there was a game last year that did exactly this, looking for $1million altogether, but as long as they could get $500K from KS then it'd show idea as viable and they'd get the other half from a publisher/investor. There's nothing stopping a KS project going via a publisher, or even a publisher giving KS a shot themselves. There's also nothing that'd make publisher involvement with a KS project have it go any worse or any better than if a developer was left entirely to thier own devices. Plenty of failed Kickstarters out there.
  9. I've seen a fair bit of praise, though mainly along lines of "it's not boring man holding gun like most covers these days" but personally I think it's a bit too busy.
  10. There's the Discworld game in our local Travelling Man and it currently has "my first paycheque" written all over it. Gloom sounds interesting. Also..what is the Ticket to Ride song?
  11. There's nothing stopping a kickstartered game getting further external publisher investment. Wally would be the one more dead on. If you can get your game primarily funded by Kickstarter folks, and be beholden to no one (backers ain't making Schafer n co sign contracts for this, unlike what a publisher would), then of course that's a route to go. Of course they'd likely never be able to make a Brutal Legend 2 or anything on par through Kickstarter. And given Double Fines reputation with publishers (hence part of reason going through KS) I've a feeling they might never see that kind of project again. Though I guess Schafer might be using Kickstarter to force him and his team to learn to stay in budget, thus making them more appealing to publishers again for larger projects that'd make use of whole team. I dunno, long term on this is hard to see. DF jump all over the place in terms of scope of games, and KS is still very early stages to be a solid continuation of funding, compared to the decades old publishers.
  12. Yeah I think the reason people say it "bombed" is because that was the impression EA gave off with it. I was always confused how 3million sales was considered a flop. Especially for what seemed like a relatively simple(cheap?) game.
  13. Holy crap, that's one hell of a level design.

    Windows 8

Yeah it's that "or" that let's people cope normally. Windows 8 is an "and", and that's where it goes tits up. Jack of all trades, master of none. Also doesn't help there's no unified control system. How you control stuff in one side of the OS isn't the same as the other side. It is kinda disorientating. Also Ethan assuming 8.1 is available as a publically accessible preview (as best I understand it will be), grab the ISO and give it a spin yourself. Oh also don't use a Windows phone, it makes you wonder even more how they cocked up Windows 8 usability, because Windows Phone is quite nice, and you know how it all works, and it guides the user along wonderfully. I'd super recommend it as a "smartphone for parents" (helps that Nokia is a known and popular brand too).
  15. How would a kinect Mirrors Edge even work? Well..more specifically how would it work without leading to several deaths?

    Windows 8

Though no screenshot, article also stated it'll be permanent return on the desktop, it's only replacing the current hover over in the metro apps. And yeah they had an excerpt noting that it's just fudging the issues, not really rectifying the problems consumers and enterprise have with it.

You should really have that looked at.

  20. I'm still bemused that of all games they could have chosen to show off the power of their next gen console, they picked COD. A series known for using cutting edge tech.
  21. Yeah Valeyard is old Who, and the 12 regenerations thing has sort of been phased out in recent eras. Sort of more as an implied cultural/legal thing than a biological limit (The MAster has been granted extra regenerations, and been brought back before now, and Tennants references have a few thousand regenerations in Sarah Jane Adventures). Ultimately as long as the show remains popular BBC and the shows writers will find a way to wiggle around the original 12 regens. Already brought back n wiped out the Daleks several dozen times in the new Who alone.
  22. John Smith is the name he uses as a cover on earth. Since we don't know his real name (which would be unlikely to be written in roman lettering anyway) I just used it as a placeholder. Valeyard is the Doctors final regeneration, and also the "evil" one. Which would imply he's the one participating in the battle shown last episode. Great Intelligence mentions it as one of his many names, though if that is foreboding or just name-dropping reference is yet to be seen. Only issue with Hurt being Valeyard is heavy implication he's 9th incarnation not last. However it could be the case of Doctor/Johnn Smith assuming the name Valeyard for several incarnations when he's not feeling very Doctory.
