    Windows 8

So what are you doing with your other hand when using the mouse? Mine is pretty much always on the keyboard. And yeah, you have to learn the shortcuts before they'll actually be more efficient. I'm not sure how that's even a counter-argument... It's not like it's difficult to learn them, there's only about 3 I use regularly. And I realize I seem to be in the minority here. I just don't understand why that is. Windows 8 feels completely similar to 7 to me, with the biggest differences being quite negligible. I never really understood why there's always such strong resistance to change when it comes to tech, actually. It just seems so fucking ridiculous to me. I had a friend pretty much lose his shit over Win 7 when he bought his current PC. I tried talking him through it a bit but he wouldn't hear anything. He was just so angry because of how different it was.

    Windows 8

Not 20 years but something like 15 years, starting from 95 up to 7. Hell, even had a shitty old machine that used Windows 3.1 for a bit. Skipped the Windows 8 tutorial entirely yet still managed to find my way around. Granted, it was annoying at first and some stuff was a bit hard to find initially. But after about a week, I got used to it. It's literally the same fucking thing as Windows 7. Literally. It just has an extra layer of paint on top of it. And I've been ignoring that extra layer, for the most part. I can't think of a single situation where learning a keyboard shortcut isn't more efficient than using the mouse. Personally, I'm glad to have been forced to learn some of them. I initially pinned a shortcut for My Computer to my start screen because I was so used to navigate from there and I couldn't find a direct way to access it. But I've barely used it since I found out about Win+e.
  3. I was also curious because you said "tactical" so I assumed you weren't talking about Mass Effect.
  4. Rurouni Kenshin. The recent live-action adaptation. My friends has told me it was good but I didn't expect it would be THAT good. It probably helps that we were all big fans of the anime back in high school, though. Here's hoping for a sequel based on the Shishio arc. That would be just about the best thing ever.
  5. Well, that was fast. Yesterday there was a rumor that 24 might get revived and today it seems like the deal is done. Pretty happy about that. I miss Jack Bauer. :(

      "24: Live Another Day"

I think I might like 12 better! But yeah, seems weird, but hopefully the hours they skip will make the story flow a bit better.

Could just do a 12hr story no? Most 24s I remember the first 12 were a lead in threat or misdirection, then the real stuff kicked in.

I like the idea of skipping hours. Maybe Jack goes home for a power nap or something... he is getting old, after all.

  6. Looks like the writer of Spec Ops: The Line is involved. That's pretty cool. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-05-13-xcoms-new-perspective-how-the-bureau-stays-true-to-the-originals-strategic-heart?utm_source=feedly
  7. Decided the Gamersgate deal was too tempting, so I went for it. Also this, because I loved rage. Of course, the sale was a big hit so they ran out of keys for Skyrim and the Rage DLC. Hopefully they'll get some more soon. :/ edit: also About time it came out on Steam. And now to finally beat it.
  8. Pretty much. I wasn't going to get the Legendary Edition until it went on sale (cause you just know they'll be charging 59,99$ for it). It's tempting because I just had my last two finals today. So, with basically fuck all to do, now is kind of ideal for a game like Skyrim.
  9. Deals on pretty much all the Bethesda games over on GamersGate. http://www.gamersgate.com/games?prio=relevance&q=bethesdaweekend I have to say 15$ Skyrim is very fucking tempting. I'd been holding out for the complete version (and the Legendary Edition looks to be coming out next month) but... 15$!
  10. Ha, that makes two of us. It kinda made me cringe a little bit. Anyway, just beat Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. It was fucking fantastic, even if the story is really short. I spent a lot of time doing everything there was to do on the island, though, so it took me around 10 hours overall and I still got probably another hour or two if I want to go back and get the last few achievements. Also, while the story was gloriously stupid and amazing, I actually enjoyed the gameplay a great deal as well. So now I really want to play Far Cry 3. But I don't have the 50 bucks to drop on it right now, so that sucks.
  11. Finally broke down and got all the Just Cause 2 DLC while it was on sale this week. I've been tempted every single time it went on sale. I got it this time because I've made myself an "objective list" for my backlog over the summer, and JC2 is a priority on it. Also, Humble Double Fine Bundle. Not exactly a stellar one, but I got it for Brutal Legend and on the off-chance that they add The Cave as a bonus later on.
  12. Lol. Looks like Ubisoft fired Désilets. Dude must be so fucking pissed.

What's the over/under on the number of days until Desilets has a project up on Kickstarter?

  13. Oh, I see. I didn't realize PhysX was more than just the fancy dynamic cloth, smoke, debris, etc effects. Thanks for the info.
  14. PhysX in general doesn't require a Nvidia card. Only very specific PhysX stuff does. Now that you mention it, I remember reading that there are ways to kinda brute force it into working on AMD cards or something along those lines. Is that what you mean?
  15. Maybe not exactly what you're talking about, but off the top of my head, the way the cutscene at the beginning of MGS4 just seamlessly zoomed in on Snake and the HUD appeared, that blew me away the first time. Also, the entire opening section of God of War III was pretty amazing, especially after years of hype.
  16. Went to see Iron Man 3 tonight. I was originally not planning on seeing it in theaters, but my friends convinced me to go with them. Really glad I changed my mind. It was... really fucking good. I liked the first two films, but I thought they both had some really weak parts. Both of them lost my interest somewhere in the middle. But this one was paced so perfectly that I never really noticed its length. It's not only the best out of all three Iron Man films, I think it might actually be the best (excluding The Avengers, obviously) out of all the Marvel movies since they started the shared universe. I heard some people really didn't like the "twist" (my friend included), but I never saw it coming and thought it was pretty funny so it didn't bother me at all. I was mostly just surprised that they decided to go that way.
  17. Well isn't that an AMD tech? Kinda like how you can't buy a Radeon card and expect PhysX to work.
  18. Yeah, I can't really explain it but I started playing UN after finishing RDR and I just kinda stopped after an hour or two and never picked it up again. That was about two years ago, I think. I was actually thinking of giving it another shot this summer. Haven't bought a new PS3 game in a while so I feel like I could get through that backlog once and for all if I put my mind to it.
  19. That's true of pretty much any weapon. The idea is that, unlike firearms, a bow is completely silent. You still have to go for a kill shot...
  20. More gameplay. Just starting it now so I can't say whether it's good or what.
  21. Started playing Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Not very far into it but so far it is glorious. You know you're in for something truly special when the first mission has an NPC hacking something and saying amazing lines such as: "I recoded the CPU socket!" and "Recompiling the motherboard!"
  22. I really need to get this as well.
  23. If some little known blog is to be believed, Bioware now owns the Space Marine IP. COME ON!

  24. Holy shit, just tried out Blood Dragon and... my system froze about 5mins in. That's when I noticed my GPU was at 99C. This hot weather fucking sucks... It's probably full of dust, too, since it's kinda hard to clean it out during the winter. I'll do that tomorrow and hopefully that'll bring it back down to non-melty levels.
