  1. So, Resident Evil 4? Nowhere near as scary as I remembered it to be. Not scary at all, actually. I just passed the part in the hedge maze with the wolves and I remembered that to be a pretty intense moment. But I just breezed through it like it was nothing. If I had to guess, I'd say I'm probably just a better gamer than I was 6 years ago. So I probably had more ammo and healing items than I did the first time. That being said, the atmosphere of the game isn't very tense, either. Dead Space wasn't scary, but it had a great atmosphere that kept me on the edge of my seat most of the time. RE4 doesn't really have that. It's still an amazing game, though. And it holds up surprisingly well. I'm definitely glad I bought it as I'm having a blast replaying it.
  2. You know, I played like that at first, but I quickly realized something was wrong because I wasn't racking up high scores. It's not about causing a huge pile-up or blocking the road completely. The most efficient way to rack up points is to cause crashes and then use those pile-ups to destroy everything around the intersection: buildings, gas station, houses, etc... So yeah, exploding will clear your roadblock, but if you do it right, it's going to rack you a fuckton of points when you send flaming cars flying into the surroundings and setting everything on fire.
  3. Shit... you guys are making me feel like I'm a terrible student for getting it...
  4. Actually, I find the amount of hate towards Crash rather surprising. Prior to mentioning it in this thread, all I had heard about it was positive, which is what made me want to try it out in the first place. Out of curiosity, why do you guys think it's so awful?
  5. For 10 bucks, I'm satisfied with what I got. Though admittedly I'm not a huge Burnout fan. My only experience with the last gen games was trying one of them (no idea which one) very briefly at my friend's place once. The only Burnout game I played extensively was Burnout Paradise this summer. So yeah, I guess we're just not coming from the same place here.
  6. Forgot to mention I grabbed Burnout Crash the other day. Quite the fun little game!
  7. Well, if you picked any other ending than that, you're an idiot! But seriously, didn't Invisible War take elements from all four of Deus Ex's endings and merged them all into its plot?
  8. I'm only about an hour in, but so far ICO is much better than I thought it would be! For some reason, even through all the praise it gets online my expectations remained fairly normal.

I prefer ICO over SotC. Make sure you see them both through to the ending, as both endings kinda alter how you perceive the game you just played.

Agreed on the combat. It's already annoying how you sometimes have to use Yorda as bait before you can even hit the enemies. I can see how that could get old pretty fast.

And yeah, I've played SotC before, so I probably won't touch it until I finish ICO.

The combat gets a bit more bearable at some point in the game, but it's still kind of annoying at times.

I was afraid I might not take to it too well also, but I'm having a great time with it so far (I think I'm almost done). The camera issues can be unforgivable at times, but it doesn't detract from the overall experience too much.

Let's see if SOTC aged like wine as well.

  9. So, I ended up doing just what I was thinking about yesterday. Picked this up on my way back from class The liquor store also happens to be on my way, so I grabbed a small bottle of rum because friday night usually means beer drinking night and I felt like mixing things up a bit!
  10. Well the thing about RE4HD is that from what I understand (and I could be wrong) they only upped the resolution. I mean, if you're going to "HD-ify" a game, might as well go all the way and tweak the textures a bit to make sure they actually look good in HD, no? Anyway, just grabbed this Off to try it now.
  11. IGN are doing a 24 hours live stream of them playing the game. http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/09/28/ign-live-24-hours-of-dark-souls I personally didn't intend to watch and spoil the game, but I checked it out out of curiosity and it's actually pretty cool to see the game being played live instead of just watching pre-recorded gameplay vids. Can't wait to get my hands on this!!
  12. Now that the price has come down a bit, I'm really tempted to get it. Especially since I've played the first one only a month ago and could definitely go for another round. But with my current schedule there's just no way I could possibly find enough time to properly play a game of this magnitude.
  13. Just grabbed Resident Evil 4 HD. It's downloading atm. Unfortunately, I have class in a couple of hours and probably won't be able to play it until tomorrow afternoon. But at least it'll be downloaded and installed. I can't wait to replay it, I haven't touched it since the original gamecube release, so I'm not sure how well it'll hold up. Plus, I keep hearing that Capcom were quite lazy in upgrading the visuals... I guess as long as it still feels superior to RE5, I'll be happy. I'm also debating grabbing ICO/SotC Collection on my way back from class tomorrow morning... I don't want to blow all my cash on games and I just bought RE4. And there's Dark Souls next week... But then again, it IS my birthday this month. So I think I'm entitled to some stupid spending
  14. Just grabbed the Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle. Quite the steal considering the game normally goes for 25 bucks! You also get the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle if you pay more than average, which I did.
  15. Just got an email about the Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle! I had installed the demo a while ago but never played it. Just did and the game is awesome. I'm definitely going to grab this. And the game is normally 25 bucks! Oh and if you pay more than the average, you also get the Humble Frozenbyte Bundle.
  16. Not trying to defend him or anything, you're entitled to your opinion of the man. But I'm pretty sure that what you're referring to was meant to be humorous. For you to get that pissed off at him makes me think that you just don't get his style of humor. I always found his articles to be highly entertaining.
  17. Finally decided to get Alpha Protocol for 2$ before the deal ends. I tried it when it first came out and the lack of polish was kind of shocking. I don't think I even finished the tutorial. It just wasn't the game I'd hoped it would be. But since then I keep running into people online who claim the game is genuinely fun, so I got curious enough to give it another shot. And for 2 bucks, who the hell cares if I don't like it. At least now I'll have it for when I've nothing better to play and feel like trying it again.
  18. Pre-ordered the PS3 version about a month ago. The closer we get to the release date, the more excited I get. It kinda snuck up on me, actually. I pre-ordered because Demon's Souls was excellent, but a month ago I wasn't exactly shitting myself with anticipation. It was more like "Eh, this is coming out soonish. Cool." Now it's more like "OMG!! DARK SOULS IN 2 WEEKS!! "
  19. Agreed on the KH collection. That's one of my most wanted since I never even finished KH2 (and now that MGS and Z.O.E. and Silent Hill all have already been announced ). As for Silent Hill, the original is already available on PSN, so I feel like it's not that big a deal to not have it. The only thing I see as a problem is the exclusion of SH4 for seemingly no valid reason. I guess it would be okay if they eventually released another collection with SH4 and a port of Shattered Memories, but that would just feel weird. I mean, packing in together a remake of the original and a game that's pretty much Silent Hill in name only... I really feel like SH4 belongs in this collection with 2 and 3.
  20. Isn't the game cross compatible anyway? Like, PS3 players being able to play with PC players? Also, am I correct in assuming that the account is accessible on both platforms? Like, if I start playing on PC but for some reason decide to download it on PS3, I'll be able to access the same account and characters, right? Previously that would've required buying 2 copies of the game, which is ridiculous, but now that it's free...
  21. Watched Attack the Block and the original 1985 version of Fright Night a few days ago. I'd heard great things about Attack the Block but didn't really know what to expect. Overall I thought it was pretty great, though it was more of a monster movie than I thought it would be. As for Fright Night, I kept hearing the remake with Colin Farrell was good but not quite as good as the original, so I got curious. It didn't exactly blow me away, but I really enjoyed how it was kind of a more old school horror movie, like I used to watch as a kid. They just don't make horror movies like that anymore
  22. This is probably the only MMO I've ever genuinely wanted to try. I mean, I gave the WoW trial a shot a while back and just couldn't get into it. But the fact that this one is based in the DCU makes it infinitely more interesting to me. That being said, paying monthly payments on top of the initial 50 bucks was just not something I felt good about. So this going free to play is awesome news for me since I've really wanted to try it but was unwilling to make the necessary investment. I was hoping for a free trial at some point, but this is even better. If I like it, I'll probably be willing to invest some cash into it if whatever microtransactions they're offering seems good enough.
  23. DCUO going free to play next month. Guess I'll finally give this MMO thing a try then...

I was interested in the game. This is actually the first MMO that I genuinely wanted to try. But paying 50 bucks and monthly fees on top is just not something I was prepared to do. Now the only thing I have to worry about is PC or PS3!

I would've gladly got it day one if they followed the Guild Wars model. But this is good too!

I bought it in june, and loved it. I also felt that its not worth a subscription, but I will probably pay for expansions and extra character slots if everything they say is free then it'll be totally worth it.

  24. Yeah, while I have nothing against remakes in general, I agree that it's ridiculous to remake a very recent release simply because the original is a foreign film. It makes american audiences seem kind of xenophobic. I mean, there's already talks about remaking The Troll Hunter, for fuck's sake. I can't imagine that movie not losing its soul in the process. I fucking loved how the trolls looked so very different than what you'd see in an american movie. What made that movie so special to me was that it was depicting another country's folklore and legends. To americanize that is to miss the point entirely.
