So after giving Chrome another shot and using it for about 2 weeks, I've reverted to Firefox. I loved most of the features (especially using the address bar as a search field) and how fast it was. The UI also grew on me quite a bit, but my experience with it was plagued with issues. I kept getting random "Oops! Chrome couldn't find this page" errors, even when the page loaded fine a second before. It even happened on Google's own sites... And sometimes it would load pages all weird. Like it messed up the html, or something. I'd get a white background with everything lined up to the left in a column. Then there's AdBlock, which apparently isn't worth a damn on Chrome. It failed to block a bunch of stuff, including ads playing before videos. So now I'm back to good old Firefox, though I did install a few add-ons that add Chrome-like features to it. Like merging the search engines into the url bar. It's a bit slower, but at least everything works right.

Absolutely. I love that

The ending, yeah? Now get on to Brotherhood. I liked it more than AssCreed2, honestly and it's an excellent continuation. Gameplay-wise, I agree. Brotherhood is an improvement over II in every aspect. But speaking strictly about the plot and ending, I preferred II by a wide margin. The ending of ACII was just a huge "Holy shit!" moment for me. Also, I love me a good cliffhanger. I found ACB's ending to be lacking in that department.

Yeah, and it sure as shit didn't help with the labelling when action games started borrowing RPG elements left and right. For example, I don't think of Borderlands as a RPG, but you get xp and level up, skillpoints to assign and a fuckton of loot to collect. I find it mostly comes down to how the game feels and plays. If you can fire a perfectly lined up headshot and somehow miss because your gun skill isn't high enough, then you're definitely playing a RPG

So now Deus Ex isn't an RPG either. I just couldn't let that one slide. Had to chime in. Though I find it absolutely insane that I am explaining what an RPG is to someone who is paid to write about video games.
-
Yeah, pretty much that combined with the fact that everything the game ask of you is pretty simple. When you fail, it's not the game being cheap or anything like that. It's very clear that you failed because your reflexes or precision were lacking.

That's the thing, though. He didn't use the word shooter. He used the acronym FPS. A lot of people will say FPS when they really mean "First-Person POV". I don't think he was talking about genre here but rather describing a gameplay aspect. Of course, this is Kotaku we're talking about. So who knows. They are basically experts at not knowing what the fuck they're talking about. edit: okay fucking nevermind. Just read the replies to your comment on Kotaku, and he really meant to call it a shooter and even defends that Skyrim is one. What a joke...

Yeah, I tried Atom Zombie yesterday and it's pretty cool. Though I'm afraid I won't be very good at it once the difficulty spikes up. As for VVVVVV, for some reason the punishing gameplay never really got to me. I beat it in a single sitting and died over 1200 times in the process but it never pissed me off (that's rather uncharacteristic for me. I tend to rage something fierce when faced with repeated failure. I'm kind of amazed that I never broke a single controller in my life).

I did that once when I was simply unable to kill an enemy (the Azura quest I mentioned earlier). He went down in like 3 hits. Then I felt ashamed and promptly reloaded. It was much more satisfying to come back a few levels later murder him dead without cranking the difficulty down, though I guess that normally wouldn't work without a mod.

Hahaha, yeah, sounds about right. You should look into getting a mod to "fix" the enemies level-scaling, though. Because the leveling is broken as fuck it's easy to screw it up and end up too weak for your (and by extension, the enemies') level. In my first game years ago I made a stealth-based character, and coming from playing lots of dungeons & dragons as a teen, I took acrobatics and athletics as major skills without really understanding what I was doing. Then I proceeded to run and jump all the freaking time, which leveled me up, but my combat skills were inadequate for my level.

Woah, thanks dude. Really appreciate it!

Unfortunately now I'm short a buck for Old World Blues But this is better than nothing. I'm knee-deep in Oblivion, anyway, so hopefully there will be another discount by the time I get around to finishing NV.

Wait, so you killed a God?! Oh and quick question: so the Oblivion gates close when you finish the main story. Does that mean you get to keep playing after the "end"? Because like I said, I wanna focus on the main quest, but I do have a ton other content that I still wanna play, like Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles. And after I'm done saving the world, I intend to take a darker turn and join the thieves' guild and the Dark Brotherhood. So I just wanna make sure I won't end up being screwed out of it by a definitive ending.

Just beat VVVVVV a few minutes ago. Such an awesome game. Even if all the other games end up sucking, I'll still be glad I got the humble bundle for it.
-
Bought the Humble Indie Bundle 3 yesterday. I even paid a penny above the average so I got the games of the second one as well. I'm really glad I got it, but now I'm a dollar short to get the New Vegas DLC that's 50% off today D: I already have Dead Money, but I was waiting for just such an occasion to get the others. Never expected it would happen so soon, Old World Blues just came out like two weeks ago!

Okay I'm starting to love mods quite a bit! I've accumulated quite a few very useful amulets and rings but for some reason the game limits you to 1 amulet and 2 rings. HUMAN BEINGS HAVE MORE THAN 2 FINGERS, BETHESDA! And I'm pretty sure I could fit a good dozen of necklaces around my neck. It would look fucking ridiculous, but that's my prerogative! So anyway, found a nice little mod that removes that limitation

Currently watching the 40mins Skyrim demo from QuakeCon and it is awesome, awesome, awesome! How the hell am I supposed to hold off until the inevitable GOTY?! D:

I also thought of BioShock when I saw the weapon/spell dual-wielding. But I really don't think there's a comparison there. I mean, BioShock isn't an RPG in any way. But yeah, I really hope that UI was tailor-made for the console version alone.

I'm actually pretty impressed with the way it's turned out.
Now let the modders get cranking. They're gonna have a field day with Skyrim.

Thanks for pointing that out. I actually found out about another shrine while talking to a random NPC, and realized that perhaps I could skip the vampire cave and still proceed with the main quest. Of course, I need to be level 10 to start the quest of the shrine I found, but now I just need to find another one. What do daedric artifacts do, though? I had no idea they had properties outside of...well, being daedric artifacts. In other news: I got accepted at the Arcane University and they gave me a freaking staff! That is awesome. What did the Blades give me? A fucking katana and some armor that I can't even sell! I really want to finish the main story so that I can consider that I "beat" Oblivion, but shit, the heir of the emperor is looking pretty damn cheap right about now! Oh and I was wondering about the Oblivion gates. It seems every single time I venture off the beaten path or get sent just slightly outside of a city, I run across 3 or 4 of them. Surely I'm not expected to close them all? They seemingly spawn at random and frankly I find the "dungeons" they contain to be rather boring. And that's after doing only 2. So, yeah, what's the deal with that?

Ugh, this damn game! It's so easy to get sidetracked when you start doing random stuff. I'm sorta stuck in the main quest. I have to clear out a cave but a few of the enemies in it are very hard to kill, so I gave up and went to some town, figuring I'd do some guild stuff to level up a bit. Well, I just spent the whole damn night getting my mages guild recommendations So much for wanting to stick to the main story! But about this part I'm stuck on,

And now we have our official first look at Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Can't say this one does much for me. And while it doesn't really bother me, that doesn't look much like Catwoman. Though I guess this isn't necessarily the full costume. -
Ha, thank god I found a way to reassign my major skills using the console! I'm about 10 hours into it so I didn't feel like starting over just to change one fucking skill. I removed athletics from my major skills, so now I can run all the damn time without it making me level up. Also, earlier tonight I found a dark corner in a room with some people, went into sneak and set auto-walk against the wall. Then I went to make myself a bowl of ramen. When I came back, my sneak was at 50 Oh and Malicious, make sure you install Darnified UI. It's seriously insane how ridiculously large the vanilla UI is. I don't know what the hell Bethesda were thinking, but once you install it, you can't go back to the regular one. Other than that, I haven't found any of the mods to be particularly necessary. I guess the unofficial patches would probably be good. The keychain is a good way to keep the inventory slightly less cluttered. I also had installed a saddlebag mod for my horse so I could let him carry some stuff, but for some reason it disappeared after I installed a texture pack earlier. Thankfully I hadn't put much in it, but now I'm not sure if I should reinstall it if it's just going to keep disappearing with my stuff

Hmm, free week-end and 50% off on Steam so soon after release? Damn, sales must be absolutely terrible.

Unofficial patch Darnified UI keychain francesco's mod (though the only thing I'd enabled was the enemy leveling fix) keychain color map Now I'm thinking of looking for something that will make the game look better. Leveling any non-affinity skills will not level your character. This is why many players suggest you choose secondary skills as your primary seven, a way around the backwards scaled leveling. So you can crouch in a room with an NPC who cannot see you, turn on auto-walk and increase your sneak all you like without worry of leveling. Awesome, thanks. Yeah, I hear you. When I first played a few years ago I made several mistakes and ended up with a character that was too weak to take on the enemies. For example taking athletics as a main skill of running/jumping constantly /facepalm I guess I'll try re-enabling a few of them one at a time and see what happens.

Alright, so I just replayed the opening "level" and my previous save was definitely fucked. I realized it as soon as the Emperor died and I got a little message that said "Deliver the Amulet quest added". I came out of the sewers and the red arrow is on my compass and the quest is in my journal. Now, this time I disabled all the mods and DLC (well, except for darnified UI... I was shocked to see how huge everything was when I disabled it O_O ). So the question is: was it just bad luck or did one of the mods ( or a combination of mods) cause the glitch? I'm not sure I want to risk reactivating them and potentially causing similar problems later in the game... That's the problem with unofficial patches and whatnot. They can easily fuck up as many things as they supposedly fix :/ Also, my first character was a Khajiit because they seemed more suited for stealth, but when I made a new one, I was looking at the races and when I stopped on the Nord, there was one part that caught my attention: "native of Skyrim". I couldn't resist So I went with a Nord and focused him on combat with a little magic on the side (specifically restoration and destruction). Though now I do miss the Khajiit's night vision a bit. But anyway, I'm mentioning this because I want to be clear on one thing. I know enemies level up at the same time I do, and based on the tutorial, it is my understanding that I only level up when one of my 7 main skills goes up. So, say I still want my warrior to be stealthy, since sneak isn't one of my main skills, I can go crazy and grind it for hours without leveling up my whole character, correct?
