  1. I'm a bit surprised to be posting this here instead of the crap movies thread, but I watched Sucker Punch tonight and, unlike what seems to be everyone on the whole damn internet, I did not hate it at all. I kept waiting for it to start sucking but it never did. I guess I can understand how the unusual mash-up of styles could be too much for some people, but that's what I loved most about it. At first I thought it kinda worked against the movie how disconnected with everything else the action sequences were. I mean, how are you supposed to care about what's going on on-screen when there is literally zero context for it? But as the movie went on I realized that what's brilliant about it is that there is no need for context because those scenes are freaking fantasies. Day-dreams. So being visually engaging and stunning to look at is really all they needed to work. Say what you will about his movies, but Snyder is a talented filmmaker. The movie is visually stunning and has more style than anything I've seen in a very long time. The music was a bit distracting whenever I recognized a song, but it really fit the mood and style of the movie and if you buy into the premise you stop noticing it after a while. When I first saw the trailers for it, it seemed like a movie I'd enjoy the hell out of. And now that I've finally seen it, I don't know why I ever let anyone's opinion make me feel otherwise. edit: Oh, I also watched Boondock Saints II last night. It's...well, it's Boondock Saints. There's really not a whole lot else to say about it. It's pretty much more of the same, and that was good enough for me.
  2. Wait, you mean it gets better? Then I guess I know what I'll be doing for most of the day Also, this is probably a by-product of having played a ton of Bethesda RPGs recently, but I feel like the game would benefit from having a fast travel function. lol It's getting annoying how long it is to run from one end of that shitty village to the other.
  3. Holy shit, this game owns so goddamn hard! I just played for almost 8 hours straight O_O Well, I mean, took a few breaks here and there, but still, I just could not stop.
  4. Hmm, alright. Seems... manageable if I can get into it. Thanks.
  5. Woah, so many spoiler tags ... Anyway! Quick question: about how long is the first Witcher? I've been on kind of a PC RPG roll lately, and now that I've finished both Oblivion and New Vegas, I'm strongly considering finally playing this. But I've only got about 2 weeks left before uni starts again, so I wanna make sure that's enough time to finish it without necessarily rushing.
  6. You know, how impressive a demo is does not determine the game's price. What? Sure, it does! All those PSN games are priced at 10 bucks because they all had terrible demos. That's just how it works, dude. You might want to read up on some of the finer points of the industry before you start arguing, otherwise you just end up looking stupid...
  7. Watched Priest tonight. Went in not really expecting much, but I really enjoyed it. It's unarguably fucking stupid, but it was right up my alley. I also quite liked the mix of sci-fi and western aesthetics. I don't think it did too well, though, so I doubt a sequel is on the cards. But the credits did say it was based on a graphic novel, so I think I'll look that up
  8. Sorry, but since when have only AAA-type games (good lord I fucking hate that term) been the ones that sell for $60? I'll buy this at $60 any day over a Call of Duty game. So no one is allowed to do anything different this generation? Last generation people had no problem with it. What the hell are you talking about? I never said that the game should be a PSN release. That's just the impression the demo gave me. I find the 60$ price crazy not because the game is not AAA but rather because I was absolutely unimpressed by the demo. I would not have purchased it as a PSN release, which I thought it was, so yeah I was a bit shocked when I realized the pricetag will be 4 to 6 times higher. And who the hell said anything about the game being "too different" ? All I said is that games like this are most often found in smaller channels like PSN and XBLA, not that that's the only place they should exist. Learn to read, dude.
  9. I didn't say low, I said PSN. As in, it seemed like a smaller-scale project and not a bigger, AAA-type game. The visuals are certainly very minimalistic and artsy, which I'm not saying is a bad thing, just that you normally see that in PSN/XBLA releases more often than in retail ones.
  10. Hmm, turns out it is stand-alone after all. PS.Blog calls it DLC but also says that "previous inFAMOUS games will not be needed to play this DLC" Seems a bit weird, but who cares. I still need to play inFAMOUS 2 ... http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/08/16/infamous-2-dlc-festival-of-blood-drowns-psn-in-october/
  11. Wait, I just saw somewhere that this is a retail release? As in 60$? What. The. Hell. I played the demo and the production value screamed PSN release. I wasn't interested at 15$, but 60$ seems insane to me. O_O
  12. I think there was more Move stuff at Gamescom than there was at E3 I could be wrong, but I really don't remember much Move-related news to have come out of E3. They announced Move Fitness, which is pretty much what it sounds like. I personally am interested and might get it, but it's probably not for everyone. Sorcery unfortunately still seems to be M.I.A. Kinda wish they'd just come out and say it's cancelled if that's what happened.
  13. Yeah, during Gamescom they said it was a vampire thing. Here's what they said about it from what I remember.
  14. Is this something that's been said at Gamescom? I think he's referring to Infamous 2: Festival of Blood, which seems to be very similar to what Rockstar did with Undead Nightmare. Horror-themed expansion coming out in October. I'm not sure if they said it was stand-alone or not, though.
  15. I'd love to see a proper System Shock 3. BioShock is nice and all, but it's really oversimplified when you compare it to System Shock 2. System Shock also had strong RPG elements and was thematically closer to horror. Whereas BioShock is mostly an action/shooter and while the original had some creepy moments, it wasn't scary at all. And it seems like Infinite is doing away with the creepy altogether. Mirror's Edge 2 is a given, but was already mentioned.
  16. The E3 demo was fine, but it didn't do much for me. The Gamescom demo I just saw, though, man that was something else. I had a huge grin on my face the whole time I was watching.
  17. Watching the Gamescom Sony conference. Was fine for a while, some Move stuff, but then they had to have some awkward dance number .. -_- When will they learn ?!

  18. Fallout: New Vegas I was much closer to the ending than I thought, but I still sunk another 30 or so hours into it before I decided to go for an ending. Wild Card seemed like the best one for me, but I made a whole bunch of backup saves so I could easily reload and go for another one, and I'm really glad I did that and got Wild Card out of the way first. Turns out it wasn't exactly how I anticipated. I'll definitely reload one of the backup saves I made and go for the NCR ending now. They seem like a bunch of assholes, but it's obviously what the game considers to be the "good" faction. I mean, you actually gain karma for killing legion soldiers and lose karma when you kill NCR guys. Oh man, don't feel bad about that. My speech was a bit too low for me to do that, and it was such a huge fucking pain in the ass!
  19. Wow, so Dead Money is kind of a bitch O_O I started it earlier and it was fine for a while. Health items and ammos were kinda scarce, but it was manageable. Then about halfway through there is a crazy spike in difficulty. I ended up just running for my life and barely made it alive to the objective. But then the game tells me to backtrack through the area I just came from. So, all the enemies I was running from earlier are waiting for me and I barely have any health and ammo left. That is the very definition of screwed. Gonna have to reload the save I made before entering the area and come back in a few levels. There's also a few skills that would probably come in handy if I raise them enough. It kinda sucks that I'm going to lose 3 hours of progress, though :/
  20. Wow, so after all this time this game still is quite a buggy little piece of shit, isn't it? I already owned Dead Money, but recently got Honest Hearts and Old World Blues. When I launched the game earlier tonight I didn't activate HH and OWB in data files, figuring I'd do that once I'd played through Dead Money. Upon loading my save, the game still recognized them and gave me the usual message about getting a signal and raising my level cap. So the game detected them anyway, I figured. No big deal. I start playing Dead Money, and after about an hour it crashed on me. Thankfully I had saved pretty much right before the crash. I figured I might as well activate the other DLCs before relaunching the game since they were already in my pip-boy. Then when I loaded my game, that's when it got weird. The save was made from within the Dead Money area, yet when it loaded I found myself in the town you start the game in, with absolutely no fucking gear, and the dlc signals appeared again. What the fuck. So I quit, deactivate the DLC figuring that's what caused the problem, and try again. Same fucking thing. I'm pretty fucking happy I made a manual save before entering the bunker where Dead Money starts. But I haven't tried loading it yet. If the game fucks it up as well.... I'm going to rage so goddamn hard. >_< edit: HOLY SHIT! This is worse than I thought. I tried the Dead Money save again just now and the character is not even mine! I'm guessing it's the default looks. He's also level 1.... I really, really, really hope that this was due to the game detecting the DLC while in the Dead Money area and that my other saves will be fine because if I just lost all my fucking progress I will go nuts. edit 2: Oh thank God, my save outside of Dead Money is fine. I also did not get the DLC signals pop-up again, so I guess it's the other save that got fucked somehow and reverted to the beginning of the game. So, yeah, I guess be fucking careful where you are when you activate DLC.
  21. I wouldn't mind a longer main quest in Skyrim, to be honest. I'm not saying they should cut on the side stuff, but it'd be cool if they put more thought into the main story. I thought the final part of Oblivion's main quest was quite anticlimatic.
  22. Finished Oblivion just now. Or rather, I finished the main questline. It was much shorter than I expected. I mean, according to Steam, I have a bit over 40 hours of playtime. But I did a bunch of mage guild stuff and kept getting side-tracked. So less than half that time was spent on the main quest. I'll probably try and finish the mage guild stuff and probably do more random shit, but for all intents and purposes I consider the game "beat". That's a pretty big one to scratch off the Steam backlog. Though, I expected it to keep me busy for another week or two, to be honest. But since I've got another two and a half weeks left before going back to uni, it would probably be a good idea to try and finish New Vegas as well.
  23. Oh man, I briefly read through that reddit thread and followed a link to that Gizmodo article Joel wrote that's basically "Fuck you, commenters!". I'm at a loss for words...
