To fight piracy, and not encourage it, I agree with those that have said they should give incentives towards paying customers. Punishing paying customers and making it a pain in the ass to say buy used games is only going to encourage piracy. People who didn't need to pirate games before will now start pirating games to fight the greedy companies looking for ways to make more MOOOOONAY. Throw in DLC, discounts, and all sorts of free shit to encourage people to buy the game new. Lower the price of the game. I know you think that charging $60 for a game is necessary to cover all the developing costs and make a profit, but maybe charge 40 or so and people and a lot of people who pirated to begin with won't anymore. I would love to see the amount of people that pirate relatively cheap but extremely popular games compared to a more expensive but equally as popular big name game.

To summarize the article, this guy has played about 2/3 of the game and says that the game is not a beat em up like people expected. He says that in a regular 20 minute gameplay episode, about 1/4 of that is actually a beat'em up and the rest is a combination between QTE's, cutscenes, shoot em ups and boss fights. So far he has nothing but great things to say about how unique the game is, but if you were expecting a brawler ala God of War that you should look somewhere else.

Yes. And I liked it. I'm not too cynical about video games. I want to stress that I rent 95% of the games I play, this one and Kingdoms of Amalur included. Once you're only paying $20 a month to play 3-4+ games, the level of angry nerdness goes down by a lot. I used to also get pissed about everything. Plus not to mention I'm gonna be able to keep Kingdoms of Amalur for like 35 or 40 bucks. And since I'll be the first to play it in the Gamefly list... it'll be brand new.

Then I'm gonna take a wild guess here, don't quote me on this, and say that this game is not for you.

Just like any other game really. Repetitive wise yeah most likely, but it'll be kept fresh with the QTE's and boss battles. And that's enough for me.

That's the impression the demo left and I am not arguing that. But other gameplay videos show actual gameplay. This is what they're demonstrating since it's so radically different from your standard beat em up formula. I'm not judging it till I play it myself, my standards aren't high when it comes to games like these and clearly it is well done for what it is.

QTE's aside, I was talking about the progression in the post above. I happen to like the QTE's. It adds interactivity to the cutscenes. And it's a japanese game so it'll have cutscenes.

All I know is that a really small part of me wants Microsoft [and only microsoft] to do this. I've needed an extra push to go back to the PS brand for a while now and this might be the trick.

Do it the way the Vita does is supposed to do it. Give customers the option to download the game online for a MUCH lower price, or buy a physical copy for reuse and resale for a higher price. Buying codes alongside games makes sense for us. But what about other countries? I know for a fact the video game stores in south america, at least in my country, wouldn't know wtf to do when it comes to this situation unless publishers have a random code generator they can use. More importantly, forcing people to buy new will only INCREASE efforts of piracy. People are stubborn. Having to buy a separate code is only an extra hassle. How much more till we have to buy the game, the code, an online pass, sign up for the game, swear loyalty to hitler, and kick a puppy all just to play the game?

See you've already started. For me to get all the pc components and build myself a gaming pc, plus a place to hook it up in... it would require way more money than I'm willing to save up and pay. Once I have an engineering job, then yeah fuck it I'll build myself a beast machine. Until then, I have to stick with consoles. And the PS4 hasn't even been announced and it is sounding better than the nextbox.

Their entire business is fucked. Gamestop and video game stores will survive with console. hardware, and even the small percentage of new game sales. Sure it'll be a HUGE drop and they'll probably have to lay off some people, but they'll survive. Gamefly on the other hand must be shitting in its pants right now. They have a safe bet with the Wii U, and whether this rumor is true and sony says they will either not follow or follow MS, will decide whether gamefly and the other renting companies get shafted.

The only console manufacturer I have complete loyalty towards is Nintendo. I'll always [eventually] buy their consoles. usually on the cheap, then play all their first party titles. I had a ps1. I switched to xbox due to halo and all these great western games. I moved on to the 360 thanks to halo and all these sweet exclusives. Now MS is focusing the majority of their attention on kinect titles. No new big ip's. So what do we have? Next xbox: - Halo plus the few ip's like fable still hanging around. - paid membership to play online [i mainly pay for xbl for the gold deals at this point] - Kinect. And I'm assuming it'll have a bigger slice of the pie considering it'll come with every console. - Set top box. Will probably become an appliance that most middle-class families will own for everything else. and it has games too! - no used games. - Only rumored to be 20% stronger than the Wii U. Sony right now has the upper hand imho. People are getting more pissed than overjoyed over all these nextbox rumors. What have we heard about the next playstation? ABSO.FUCKING.LUTELY nothing. But Sony already has Microsoft beat in terms of amount of ip's [and they're all great qualities] and the fact the next PS will most likely be extremely fucking close to the next xbox live and will most likely remain free. All Sony needs to say no if these bad rumors are even remotely true, is that they don't plan to shaft consumers and/or the console is really powerful at a competitive price to the nextbox and BOOM. People switch. In the years the xbox 360 and ps3 were announced I had a hard-on for Microsoft. There was no doubt in my mind I was getting an xbox. Now there's a huge doubt. If Sony takes advantage of this doubt, and they better will if they know what's good for them, MS is back at third place.

I really do hope the rumors about used games is false. The majority [like 95%] of the disc-games I play are through gamefly. If used games are a no no, then rentable games are pretty much in the same league of getting fucked over. Not to mention that the gamer tradition of lending/borrowing games will be all but then. I'm literally going to see what the ps4 has to offer if the 6x graphics thing is true. I don't use xbox live nearly as much to warrant paying 60 a year, besides downloading games [which either ways it's free in the PS]. Halo is the only thing keeping me even remotely interested in the xbox brand. By the time the next consoles come out, the difference in perceived quality between the PSN and XBL will be practically gone. Xbox has been moving towards the appliance thing than a game console [tv, video downloads, apps all this shit regular appliances have]. While nice for people who can afford all these services, I don't find a use for them so literally all I have is the games. And with the majority of them being multiplat, this isn't looking good for MS. I WANT a reason to stay with you Microsoft. The great selection of XBLA was a nice touch, but I am not gonna move on to your next console solely to play arcade games. If Kingdoms of Amalur becomes a series, I won't have a need for Fable [which is a decent exclusive, not mindblowing]. Alan Wake is not technically exclusive so unless you buy Remedy... Gears of War is great but again, unless Epic has some recently-shown loyalty to the point where all their new ips go to you exclusively, I don't see them choosing sides. If the new Playstation is once again much more powerful than the nextbox, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to switch sides again for the first time since the ps1. Free online multiplayer, about just as many sweet arcade games, [expecting] much better graphics, and not to mention all the first party developers and exclusive ip's sony has been building this generation. Not to mention all my close friends having a ps3 over a 360. Please don't be completely overshadowed either in software or hardware by sony. With your lack of exclusives, all you would have riding for you is to be either much much cheaper or much much more powerful. Do something. Rant over.
