  1. Came back online simply to rant about this movie: Tales from Earthsea Ugh, I really expected more out of a Studo Ghibli film. Supposedly this movie doesn't even follow the book series it was based on, remotely. First off, context! What is the significances of someone's true name? Is one person trying to stay alive really enough to destroy the balance so no one but the most powerful of wizards can use spells? There are dragons, but why only two minutes of screen time? Just, there's too much unanswered and not in the good "own interpretation" way. Was Tennaru really a dragon or just a human capable of turning into a dragon?! Why did Gob need to sell slaves? Because he's evil and that's it?! If it weren't for the music and animation (which kinda fails in select moments), this would belong in the "Terrible" pile.
  2. Unboxing pics... mmm... http://tinyurl.com/d3gphjb (Play Asia) EDIT: Make sure to click the link for the full gallery as there are comparisons of the game carts and game cases.
  3. Tell me PC gurus... Why would my game of Skyrim run better in Windowed Mode? I thought that Windowed takes more processing power, and etc, thus it would hinder performance. Except I can actually play without a hitch with Low and Medium settings if I choose Windowed. I would lag from time to time if it were in Fullscreen.
  4. Had the strangest Christmas shopping dream. My father and I are in some abomination of Costco, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart all the while trying to pick out discounted trash gifts.

  5. What's the deal with Fi? I frickin' love her character, but I know I checked with her at least three times. Yet she kept telling me, "He's [description], and it doesn't look like you can use your Skyward Strike." I'm guessing after "the change," Fi must have had something after a while of that hazard striking behind me. "Tell Me More!" would always have her give the lecture on using Analyze. Seriously, whenever I needed her in the whole game for fights, she didn't know any "information" at the time. EDIT: I know it must seem like I'm harping on the game, but I still very much enjoyed the hell out of it. It's definitely in my Top 5 (of LoZ), but I'm not sure if it's second... or third... I'll have to play Hero Mode to see how great that part is.
  6. Good thing I didn't say "time it perfectly!" (D'oh oh oh oh!) But really, I agree except for Demise and his electrically charged death stick murdered my shield pretty good. It makes sense given that he's one of three enemies that does multiple swings whereas Bokoblins and even Ghirahim do one swipe of their sword. It's not like you're receiving damage, but you might not recognize you're actually just defending yourself and thus diminishing the shield's durability. EDIT: Looked at the boss fight again (online) and I noticed why he got the best of me. Even when you shield bash, he keeps swinging. Every single enemy in the game usually staggers or is stunned. It turns out to be the proper way of defending yourself without diminishing the shield's durability. Then again, if you had the Hylian Shield you wouldn't have to worry about this.
  7. Ah hell yeah! There's a Legend of Zelda artbook coming soon (though only announced for Japan so far)! Rumors have it that it'll further develop the origin story of the series and, get this, provide an OFFICIAL timeline for the series. http://wii.ign.com/articles/121/1214953p1.html

I doubt the "official timeline" rumor.

Hell, I hope it isn't true.

The entire fun thing about the timeline is speculating about it. Releasing the timeline would take the fun out of it.

  8. So, 'ight. I'm trying to get back into Minecraft, though over Christmas break I'm sure Skyrim will get the better of me. What mods and texture packs do you guys use? I've recently been getting into texture packs. I checked out Jolicraft, and while it's really great to see a dedicated artist, I'm not that big a fan of it. However, I also downloaded Wayuki which I think is amazing! It doesn't change everything, so maybe that's why it isn't as popular. The mods though, which would be good for a simple user as myself? I think there's one that has all the wood fall when you cut a tree down, right?
  9. It was a great shield (Goddess), up until the Demise boss fight. If you wanted to shield bash, you needed to be spot on because five quick hits to the shield from Demise and it breaks. At least, that's how many hits it seemed to take when all of a sudden I got the message "Your shield broke!"
  10. Ah, the Great Fairy of Courage's Enhanced Defense. I think now that we can actively use our shields (shield bash), we've (as in those in charge) forgone any added defense since the last inkling of improved defense was in Phantom Hourglass. In Skyward Sword, the ultimate form of defense is the Hylian Shield since it can't break.
  11. I only ever bought two different potions: Heart and Stamina. Heart, for obvious reasons, but the Stamina potion I used for the Fledge side quest, and to cheat in gaining one of the Goddess Cubes in Eldin I made a Stamina Potion ++. Rather than trying to slide down the sand slopes over and over, I got to the platforms about midway, drank the potion and ran all the way back to the split to go down the other path.
  12. There's a Waldorf and Statler comic in the making here... Yeah, I guess I meant "Pink" Fairy, as in the one that revives you if you happen to lose all your hearts. For the life of me I thought they were called Red Fairies, but then again I had the same fairy bottled up in my pouch for a looooooong time. (EDIT: In Skyward Sword, they're referred to as simply "Fairy.") Speaking of which, how do you guys feel about fairies only healing six hearts now? In Twilight Princess, I'm sure it was eight, but all the way back from Ocarina of Time it was all hearts.
  13. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1214839p1.html New concept art from the UK PlayStation Magazine. Just so people remember, Ellie (the girl) said ever since she could remember the world has been like this. The plague/whatever could have happened perhaps, what, at least 12-15 years from their current time? Yet you look at all the vegetation and it would have to be maybe a few more decades. My favorite is the one with Interstate 5.
  14. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword I have to say, while Ghirahim was a punk the first two times, he was a breeze in the final encounter. More discussion in the proper thread, but I would have to say the only thing I didn't do was go after the Hylian Shield. Serious, you get the opportunity to obtain it nearly at the end. I got the Piece of Heart, but didn't want to bother with eight bosses again.
  15. Nintendo's going to fix the Skyward Sword game breaking bug! I didn't have the misfortune of screwing up my save file, but when we're talking about Zelda, you know Nintendo's going to come running with a solution. http://wii.ign.com/articles/121/1214853p1.html

      RockyRan

Well, we can't exactly compare a simple bug to an (allegedly) gigantic problem stemming from the engine's inner workings, can we?

Although I'm of the belief that if Skyrim's engine was truly fundamentally incompatible with the PS3's architecture, then MAYBE they shouldn't have released it and charged people money for it...

      excel_excel

Well I agree, its just a nice comparison. Nintendo has a bug like this, they do all they can to fix it, Bethesda has a bug its a 'feature'

    4. RockyRan

      RockyRan

I'm pretty sure Bethesda would've already fixed a bug like what Zelda has through one of the many patches they've released. It's not like Beth hasn't fixed shit.

  16. I'm being a little bit of a completionist, but there are a few other things that have sorta bugged me. One, I still don't know how I feel about the two Life Medals to make a complete 20 Hearts. When I do an Analyze, Fi tells me how my pouch has a low percentage of "survival" even though I have two bottles of Heart Potion ++ and another bottle with a Red Fairy. Add my Goddess Shield, a Large Quiver and Large Bomb Bag and I think I have a better chance of surviving than adding different potions or different medals. Two, and I did theoretically expect this, but your gifts for Gratitude Crystals. They're just like the Gold Skulltula Tokens in Ocarina of Time: at a certain point you're fine with abandoning the side quest. As I'm saying this they are minor, but meh... EDIT: So I don't double post. Beat the game and here's what I got to say...
  17. I am... alright with this... Yes, I am glad that if Nintendo wants to collaborate with anyone in the West, it's Retro Studios. I wonder what Retro would add to Zelda? Part of Zelda that makes it seem fantastic and foreign to us is that there are tidbits of Japanese culture. I could rattle off a few, but I'm sure you guys are aware of it all. Hmm... western stuff... "Quickly Link! Load the Light Bullets into the Master Assault Rifle! It's the only way to defeat Ronald McDonald and his Great Depression era minions!"
  18. I wholeheartedly agree with FDS that the "Kraft Singles," a.k.a. Lucifer's Processed Cheese, are an abomination to the world and a blight to all cheese. I'm serious, that orange dyed crap made me hate grilled cheese sandwiches as a child because that's how they were always made around me. Ever since I could use an oven, I've maded my own and I love grilled cheese sandwiches. About 60% that much.
  19. I can tell ya now, a lot of high school and college students would be up a creek without a paddle. Wikipedia, the patron saint of procrastination!
  20. I have 34 hours logged in for Skyward Sword, so I thought I could definitely finish in two hours. Yeah, then I reached the Tadtones and I've gone to Eldin where, well, you know...

  21. I swear, with all the spin-offs, books, movies, apps, and online resources, there better be an Assassin's Creed III: Desmond Ends It All, For Real Guys. I really like Ezio, but I don't think in any since he deserved 2.5 games (Altair making up the other half of Revelations).
  22. Ugh, there are two mini games I hate in Skyward Sword: Harp and Pumpkin Pull! Harp simply because the "correct" way of playing sounds awful and is such a waste of time. Pumpkin Pull because while it's easy enough to get to 400, getting to 600 for the Piece of Heart took me about 40 minutes with me ending up between 420-560 on most plays. Seriously, once I hit exactly 600, the MotionPlus was goofing up and I managed to make another 10 points. Stupid Fledge, and to think I took pity on you for trying your best to improve. If only arrows could hurt you...
  23. Nah, you can slightly tell. After seeing him in The Pursuit of Happyness, I can see him as a middle-aged man. I agree that 3 is looking a lot better than that... other movie.
  24. While this might sound technically terrible, this game keeps sounding like a mixture of "The Road" and "The Happening." Yeah you heard me! The one movie that was super depressing, but good, and the one movie that was horrendously terrible because it couldn't make "nature attacks" any bit interesting.
