  1. Finished the second book in the Hunger games trilogy, Catching Fire. Honestly, I like everything about the series (thus far) except for... the main character, Katniss. It's not so much her personality, it's that she acts too oblivious and asks a lot of questions solely for reader interaction. Not to mention she seems to have frickin' mood swings that go from suicidal to aggressive. Not fequent, but you can at one point read about her plotting to take out someone, but then a few pages later she expects her death and see the benefit in it. Really, the last few pages of the second book are a bit overdramatic and ruins whatever "anticipation" is being set up for the final book.
  2. What? That didn't seem specific with all the quests handed out in the game. I thought I was fairly behind compared to everyone else here, reason why I was asking about all the different cities in the game. EDIT: Not trying to sound snarky either, just I didn't see the apparent spoiler material given how minimal it appeared to me. I usually go into a lot of detail, and then I see I should put spoiler tags. As a precaution, I'll put a spoiler tag on anything that's any quest related from now on.
  3. I remember having to do two different senior projects during my high school education. I did two because I moved and began a separate project my senior year at another high school. In retrospect, I still don't see what difference it was going to make besides keeping us frantically busying during our senior year. The high school I graduated from, well, only a handful of us were definitely going to college. I do blame part of their destiny in their hands as some of the kids were straight up jackasses with no sense of self-improvement besides getting drunk on the weekends. The others could have actually used more, you know, "education" besides, "Well, when you're going to college, you'll need..." I've been in college for nearly five years. From where I'm standing, it seems all you need to do in college is pay tuition and attend classes to be "successful." That is, if you've got a potential career that's going somewhere. It's kinda funny, but even professors realize how difficult it is for students to land a job in their chosen field once they're handed a diploma. I think my brother-in-law had to apply 59-ish times for a job before at least two employers would take a look at him. He has an amazing job at least.
  4. I haven't explored all of Skyrim, but are there any cities that are not corrupt? It's kinda funny, but Whiterun doesn't seem like such a bad place now.
  5. Saw the drawing on my smartphone; IT'S SUPER GOOD LP!
  6. I don't see anything except "Posted Image."
  7. True, but I feel like it wouldn't be that big of a problem if (the majority of) the public could accept that sometimes the best candidate for President of the United States of America isn't going to be perfectly parallel to their beliefs. It's like voters want to have a personal avatar based on beliefs to be president whereas a president is someone who should be one with the capabilities and motivation to handle the responsibility of presidency over a country such as the United States. Sometimes it's like people want to vote for a Prom King (or Queen) instead of an actual leader.
  8. Played the Asura's Wrath demo and IT'S AMAZING! Well, the regular combat isn't as thrilling, but all the action and sequences are great.

Oh, its out? Thanks for the notice ^^

  9. This is part of the reason why I don't like politics. If you want to have any hope of being elected by your party, you have to subvert your personal beliefs to the majority's popular opinion. Jon Huntsman can say whatever he wants because he has never had a chance in this race. Those who are neck-and-neck, they've got to monitor themselves so as not to say anything detrimental to the voters. This is also why you'll hear "flip-flopper" flung around during political campaigns. Everyone running does it, but some candidates are more noticeable because it can seem like they've flipped a metaphorical "politics" switch.
  10. After using most of my gift cards, I've given myself quite the backlog. Even with all my games, I've stuck with Sonic Generations. It's actually a good game, except whenever it reminds me that there was once a game known as "Sonic Heroes." Only game where I've ever broken a controller in frustration.

Sonic Heros... good lord. Why did you remind me of such bad memories?

  11. Once as I was traveling to Riften for the first time, six bears attacked me. Not all at once, but I could go one minute without one popping out of the woods roaring at me. On a related note, my horse is pretty amazing. It even helped me kill a dragon, but it was stomping the hell out of those bears. Tonight I figured out how to have the wife stay in the clothes I picked out for her. It seems to vary on the NPC type, but for a whole game session my spouse stays in her new outfit. It's only when I start a new session that she reverts to her mining clothes. Nocturnal's outfit is something else.
  12. Bought an issue of EGM tonight, and now I realize (again) why I don't care for gaming magazines. The reviews are pathetic, as in a single page review where hte majority of the content is describing the game's introduction.

      P4: Gritty Reboot

They are limited by the size of the mag, so some of the sub-AAA titles get like 2 or 3 sentences. It's pretty pathetic.

I thought EGM went out of business.

    3. TCP

      TCP

I can't even remember the last time I bought a print magazine. Sort of sad seeing all these publications go out of business, but really, they had 10+ years knowing technology will change the industry, they had their shot to adapt.

  13. Pretty much, TCP. Even with Ocarina, it continued the tradition of receiving a direct sequel, and then dropping it from there like Legend of Zelda and Link to the Past before it. It however held in itself a split timeline, and whenever there's talk of time travel, a timeline is bound to be brought into discussion.
  14. I love the color red, among other... things.
  15. I'm still "under the weather" so I don't feel too bad playing seven hours of Skyrim today. :D

  16. I married Sylgia as my last bit of Skyrim playing for a... while... Quite the experience actually. I didn't realize the time you talked with the priest-guy was the time of your wedding, so mine was set to begin at 12:34 a.m. Anyway, my side was filled with Lydia, that one elf dude from Riverwood, and the hotel manager woman from Whiterun. I really don't know why those last two would show given how much I've helped others... Yeah, the whole time the woman from Whiterun was moonwalking behind me as she didn't have enough space to sitting down. That, and the common bug of "runaway bride" happened. I had to track Sylgia back to her spot in Redbelly Mines. I get up to her and talk, but the whole time we're talking about where to live, I'm talking to her ass. Anyway, she's on her way home. Exit the mines and I'm greeted to my first Frost Dragon. Of course, every NPC tries to fight the thing which means my wife of one day is in risk of dying. Damn thing hardly lands on the ground and all but one guard has died. For some reason the dragon flew off to fight something in a field. I get there and my horse is tackling the dragon! It sees me, we fight in a sunny field for a few minutes. The dragon is literally on the verge of dying when it decides to fly back to town. THE BASTARD ALMOST KILLS MY WIFE! I ran up, did a finishing power move which meant mashing my new war axe into the dragon's eye four times. I lost my skyforge steel sword when it was disarmed in that "retrieve queen's sword" quest. /honeymoons in Skyrim
  17. Turns out, in the same book, that there's a "disclaimer" of sorts by Eiji Aonuma about the timeline. http://wii.ign.com/articles/121/1215984p1.html To summarize, "We've always focused on the gameplay, so setting these games in an order is always going to have inherent contradictions."
  18. It seems like a lot of people marry Ysolda, but I'm a rebel! Though, I've read that unlike the other shop spouses, you can "trade" with Ysolda. That just means I can buy items from my then wife, right? I'm being careful with this because I don't want to, uhmm, "divorce" and remarry someone else. I'm seriously thinking of either using console commands for Lydia, or bypassing the Dark Brotherhood quest and marrying Muiri. From what I've looked up, she's the only Breton female around. Her and I would greatly increase Skyrim's Breton population! EDIT: Ugh, you know, while reading up on all the marriage bugs, it's probably safer just to marry Ysolda... or maybe that miner chick. Though I hear Ysolda is kind of a drug addict too.
  19. I frequently save, so it's usually a matter of "repeat room." Not to mention, if Lydia did die, it means I was doing terribly.
  20. Yep, I've had Lydia die on me two times. She's one of the few partners I care enough about to reload if they happen to accidentally fall victim to rare circumstances.
  21. 3G speeds are terrible. If it weren't for 4G, I would be waiting for a Wi-Fi connection to run some of my apps and browse the Web. That, and the 3G provider is AT&T.
  22. New semester, new job opportunities! This time when they say "You're hired," they better mean it.

I have an interview coming up, but I think I'm a good contender. It's just a campus custodial job, but it pays more.

  23. Katniss is evidence enough that Hunger Games is a YA novel. It's probably for the sake of the reader, but she also seemed a bit too clueless about herself and a few others. You can question motives, and etc, but how does someone honestly struggle with, "How do you see yourself?" That's where her selflessness comes to bit her in the butt. I mean, Peeta himself understood the important of staying true to yourself, but it took Katniss near the end of the novel to understand what he was saying. "Oh yeah, that I don't become the pawn of the Capital's game and hold onto what makes me... HUMAN!" I guess you can blame a lot of it on her daddy issues. After all, the book constantly reminds us of his death and her phobia of injured persons.
  24. So the Hunger Games is an American version of Battle Royale then? That's what it sounds like. I've seen that comparison quite a bit, but I have no experience with Battle Royale. Oh, and if I didn't make it clear, it's two teens from each district, so there's a total of 24 "participants" each year. There's some good angles to it though, like the "Career Tributes," those from District 1, 2, and 4 who actually train for the games, whereas you have the dirt poor District 11 and District 12 who have had only a few "victors" in the previous 73 games.
  25. Oh wow, didn't realize there was this thread for books. Like a few others, I finished the first Hunger Games a few days ago. My complaints are pretty much like those above, though I'm a bit more forgiving as it is "Teen Fiction." Also, to make a minor correction in regards to P4's summation, the Hunger Games are the Capital's punishment to the twelve remaining districts of Panem after a failed rebellion. As such, once a year two teens (12-18) are randomly drawn from a list of names to (forcibly) compete in a free-for-all death match until there is one survivor. Everyone outside the Capital is forced to watch and act as though there is nothing wrong, whereas most of the citizens of the Capital are more so ignorant rather than inherently evil to the Hunger Games. EDIT: I ordered the remaining two books off Amazon for cheap, but I still have to finish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
