  1. Anyway, this is my last comment on the topic (or at least last essay) because really we're just arguing about WHY the ending is stupid, which is kind of a stupid thing to argue about imo.
  2. At least in Kansas if you go look at the registry it tells you specifically what they were convicted of. I don't know about other states.
  3. Yeah, a lot of the crimes that make people register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives are downright retarded and I'd argue it undermines the effectiveness of the whole system to lump indecent exposure and public urination in with rape and child sexual abuse. That aside, I think the idea is to keep them from being able to use these networks to prey upon kids, same reason they're not allowed near parks and schools. Seems to make sense until you consider what a ridiculously wide range of crimes are encompassed.
  4. @Dean: @Jack: Yeah, it's a shitty explanation, that throws canon out the window, I'm just arguing that that meme completely misunderstands it.
  5. @Sporkwaffles: Yeah, the whole final act was one of the most powerful experiences, if not the most powerful, I've had in a game.
  6. You miss the point in your first sentence. Yes, it's a stupid solution, and it's a stupid explanation because it conflicts with lore in a lot of ways, but that meme is misrepresenting it to make it appear stupider than it really is (or at least stupid in a different way). As you say, it's already stupid enough without misrepresenting it, which makes the fact that the meme misrepresents it even MORE irritating.
  7. I'm sure the anti-gay people contributed to the Consumerist thing. And if I understand your position correctly, dean, it's not so much that you're opposed to the idea of gay characters in games, it's that you're opposed to them being done badly, and just think it's probable than any gay character will be done badly, right?
  8. I dunno, I thought Catalyst kid explained it pretty clearly. I've just been assuming that people are intentionally over-simplifying it to make it sound stupider, rather than believing that any large number of people could have misunderstood it that fundamentally.
  9. What happened to "if bioware releases ending expansion dlc it will restore all my faith in them and I'll love them forever"?
  10. http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/05/civilization-5-gods-and-kings-finds-religion-release-date-on-j/ June 19 for Gods and Kings. I cannot fucking wait. Yeah, combat is much improved in Civ V over Civ IV, though some more stacking would be nice. I'm fine with not being able to stack military units, because the stack of doom is a broken system, but it would be nice to be able to have more than one support unit in a tile. I don't think letting multiple workers sit in the same tile is broken like the combat was with the stacking. If it were up to me the only change I would make to the combat is I would have two types of land combat units: ranged and melee, and I would let you have 1 ranged unit and 1 melee unit per tile. Still wouldn't let you put multiple units of the same type on top of each other though.
  11. Really interesting article about the purpose of the Reaper's cycle: http://ludo.mwclarkson.com/2012/04/to-clear-the-crowded-sky/ The galaxy is like an overgrown forest, with older civilizations choking out new ones, and the reapers are a necessary evil, like a forest fire burning away the old growth to let new plants thrive.
  12. What's the point of the internet if we can't bitch relentlessly about everything?
  13. $5 on Amazon. LA Noire is also $5, though the version that comes with all the DLC is still $30.
  14. But you keep taunting us! That's worse than just not saying anything at all!
  15. Good. I think they could have made a better ending to start with, but what's done is done and I don't think they should have retroactively changed it, I've always been in the "just explain what happened to people" camp, so like elev3n said I'm getting exactly what I want.
  16. I'll buy the Wii U when the first Zelda game that isn't available on Wii drops. Maybe the first Mario game if it seems like it's the best thing since sliced bread.
  17. That Watson thing cracks me up. Reminds me of ninja cat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=fzzjgBAaWZw#t=36s
  18. Supposedly that fog thing is only an issue in the first area (IIRC that was according to Strangelove after he played the game). Unless you were talking about fucking it up in other ways.
  19. lol, it would crack me up to see the federal government make a profit by buying back all the pennies at face value, melting them down, and selling the zinc for more than the money was worth. *Edit* - Obligatory "This thing isn't worth the gold it's made of!"
  20. I tend to be guilty of that myself, because given the option I would almost always prefer not to use that controller. Not quite always, but close.
  21. THQ v Capcom was hard. Not because they're both so terrible, but because they're both at so close to the same level of terrible (middling level).
